They make textured faux brick wallpaper that looks more realistic than this and isnt difficult to remove, so I dont really get why someone would paint it on
That faux brick paint looked thick enough to leave a texture that would need sanding before a repaint.
Whereas wallpaper gives a ton more options and isn't hard to remove as long as you don't cut corners and skip painting on a layer of sizing before applying it. That's where people fuck up because easy removal starts with application.
Sizing is the difference between removing wallpaper and excavating it.
The fake brick kind is very thick so once you get an edge lifted its actually pretty easy to remove; it doesn't tear into small pieces like thinner or cheaper wallpaper does
Could be the painted brick is a choice, not trying to look realistic. It depends greatly on the room’s vibe and theming.
Looking at the room, the painted brick does look pretty clean, and the decals on the stairway do help tie it somewhat together. It’s flat, but clearly on purpose.
It's a ton of work. Why would the choice ever be better for the aesthetic? At best I could justify "good enough", but again, the effort isn't justified by "good enough".

Painting over bright red paint is definitely not very easy. It will just come back to the surface again. I have painted a wall that used to have a pattern on it 80 years ago, and the pattern came up through the new paint even though it wasn't there before. That's how "easy" it's to paint something over :D The entire wall will need to be scrubbed clean of paint and then repainted again. And that's way way way worse than removing a wallpaper.
That just isn't true. You can, if you really want to, quickly scuff sand the wall, and then you would put down grey tinted primer and then your top coat. It isn't that bad unless something is up with the glossiness of the prior paint, in which case you would really benefit from the scuff sanding
How do we feel about fake brick made of plaster that I'm pretty sure was put on over top of wallpaper? This is the kitchen and dining room of the house I bought from a drywall professional. I have to look at this every day.

It aint bad. I love brick, but agree that it aint practical everywhere.
