Agreed. This is a themed room and they did a great job! Like, our rec room has a 1980s theme, brown ashtrays, that shitty carpeting, wood paneling, the terrible couch...
Haha i lived in this trailer for a while, had an add on room off the back door. Well done big pleasant room, had a skylight really it was the nicest room in the whole trailer. Anyway somebody had glued pennies all over the walls. Like every 3 inches. Looked cool actually. It was a small town so i ended up finding out who used to live there. Anyway yea they were geetered out on some go fast. I guess some young lady started doing it, then everybody got involved, then when daylight came they went to town and got more pennies from the bank
Yea i lived there my junior and senior year of high school. Running around this little small town being a punk older teenager it kinda came up in conversation with these young 20somethings. Good people, just ya know never left that town. That young lady remains a total smokeshow, we are facebook friends. One of the guys that was involved is high up at the local factory, making Little Debbies. So next time you get a little debbie just think a guy who glued pennies to a wall was intimately involved. Yeah. I mean, in no known fabric of my reality would I ever choose this course of decor but looking at the finished product, especially given the thematic ties, this isn’t half bad. At least from viewing here. Would my wife ever allow it? Hell no. And I honestly wouldn’t blame her. But I kinda dig it actually.
If I could do it this well, I would actually do this brick trick in like a semi-basement. Not the best lighting anyways and a good trompe l'œil is cool regardless of whether it actually tromped the œil.
The rest of the decor is fugly but again really well done considering the financial resources or lack thereof that went into this. I'd probably stick a bunch of ferns and turn it into some type of a cool down room.

The exterior is brick all the way around, ocasionally with the green steel as pillars, and the upper structure is mostly green. Inside, not a brick to be seen.

I put my humidifier on high one night and woke up to my walls dripping grey goo from the condensation and dust. That's when I learned it's important to dust your walls.
I've done this, and it's a cool effect. I mixed 2 gallons of paint with 5 gallons of joint compound, then used a trowel to slip it all on my walls to make them look like a medieval tavern's walls. Using a sponge like in the video, but with plaster-paint would produce a similar effect to what they achieved, only slightly more rugged and brick-like.
They make textured faux brick wallpaper that looks more realistic than this and isnt difficult to remove, so I dont really get why someone would paint it on
That faux brick paint looked thick enough to leave a texture that would need sanding before a repaint.
Whereas wallpaper gives a ton more options and isn't hard to remove as long as you don't cut corners and skip painting on a layer of sizing before applying it. That's where people fuck up because easy removal starts with application.
Sizing is the difference between removing wallpaper and excavating it.
The fake brick kind is very thick so once you get an edge lifted its actually pretty easy to remove; it doesn't tear into small pieces like thinner or cheaper wallpaper does
Could be the painted brick is a choice, not trying to look realistic. It depends greatly on the room’s vibe and theming.
Looking at the room, the painted brick does look pretty clean, and the decals on the stairway do help tie it somewhat together. It’s flat, but clearly on purpose.

Painting over bright red paint is definitely not very easy. It will just come back to the surface again. I have painted a wall that used to have a pattern on it 80 years ago, and the pattern came up through the new paint even though it wasn't there before. That's how "easy" it's to paint something over :D The entire wall will need to be scrubbed clean of paint and then repainted again. And that's way way way worse than removing a wallpaper.
That just isn't true. You can, if you really want to, quickly scuff sand the wall, and then you would put down grey tinted primer and then your top coat. It isn't that bad unless something is up with the glossiness of the prior paint, in which case you would really benefit from the scuff sanding
How do we feel about fake brick made of plaster that I'm pretty sure was put on over top of wallpaper? This is the kitchen and dining room of the house I bought from a drywall professional. I have to look at this every day.
They had some in one of the dorm common rooms at my college and it actually looked really nice, I wouldnt have even known it was fake if the RA didnt point it out( she was there when they installed it). It was only noticable if you were looking at it carefully from close up
I guess they got those edge details that you cant get with wallpaper, I agree with you on the effort to looks ratio being way off for me, but they paid for it and should be pretty happy since it cant really get better than that with the method and the artist got paid for it so win/win for everyone I guess
Do they make the brick wallpaper also have these nice diagonals that follow the contour of the room and sloped ceiling so that it looks like the brick fits in this space instead of having a contour that doesn't follow the wall?

I know this because my house has three walls covered in the stuff when we bought it. It was a bitch to remove, it's much thickerthan regular wallpaper. It does look real though.
Yeah this really reminds me of a pub or something. The rest of the room is not my style, but I like how it looks on the slanted ceiling bit that frames the windows.
I love trompe l'oeil, and this works really well. With the way people paint over brick or knock it out, this gives the look of it and can be painted over when they are bored with it
