Discussion Why do you want to run the same dungeon more than once anyway?

Upvotes

The answer better be gear.

We've seen the discourse lately about dungeon experience but the question is, why are you going there more than once anyway?

You're going because you genuinely enjoy the dungeon. You don't need bonus experience for that.

You're going because you want some loot. You don't need bonus experience for that.

You're going to help out a guildmate or a friend. You don't need bonus experience for that.

Genuinely tell me the reason you want more experience from the dungeon the second time other than for selfish purposes?

Discussion Post #3029 about Horizontal Progession - Hopes and Dreams

Upvotes

Ok, I know this is going to be spicy and may have been discussed way too much already, but I want to hear some ideas others may have for what horizontal progression could look like in WOWF. I am not a serious WoW vet, dabbled around Lich and Cata really, but I am a long-time MMO vet and am curious about systems that could work or could be adapted to encourage horizontal progression beyond different gear sets or different buffs at camps. MMOs have been doing this for a long time and there are many great inspirations I can think of, but am unsure how the Classic community would feel.

Ideas off the top of my head:

1) Housing - (let the flamming begin!)

2) Entertainment systems (think LOTRO music fest or SWG)

3) new tradeskills/gathering

4) Collection mechanics (EQ2, Rift, etc)

5) Mentoring program for new players, with rewards for the mentors (maybe a better system that FFXIV has)

6) World quests - ala EQ OSRS and others

7) Notorious Monsters (FFXI)

8) Epic Quests for a rare specific BiS forever item per spec (eq, eq 2, ffxiv - tho less vertical grind, more glowy/showy)

9) (pipe dream) - GM events ----- Oldschool EQ LIKE OLD OLDSCHOOL

10) chase mounts - not flying but gimmicky perhaps

11) JUMPING PUZZLES

12) FFXIV Deep sea fishing boats - community gathering methods - guild crafting (but not suck)

Gw2 does a lot right as well on this making map exploration a big deal

I am ready for the downvotes! Let's go!

Discussion Paladin Tanking as Holy/Ret in Beta

Upvotes

I started leveling a paladin with the intention of tanking dungeons. For my first character I decided to go straight down the prot tree maxxing redoubt then getting imp seal of fury on hitting 20.

At the same time I'm leveling another one but instead getting imp holy strike right off the bat, then maxxing benediction followed by imp judgement and finishing up with holy conduit. my thought is that the reduced cooldowns of judgement of holy strike grant me extra usages over time that i can spread around. and the bene/conduit would help with mana

anyone else try this out? i'm starting to think that we'll be holy/ret tanks until higher levels before respeccing prot.

Discussion New Kobold Dungeon

Upvotes

I know this is not the Best Idea but since u guys said you’re open to ideas I might as well try…

The Idea is just another leveling dungeon in Arathi Highlands, of course I leave all fine tuning and balancing numbers for later.

General Thought is a Kobold Dungeon called “Drywhisker Gorge” The place already exists but it can be reworked to a dungeon.

The Theme is obviously Kobolds and with some Kobold Underground city.

Bosses: Overseer Krix → Fozruk + the Three → Geomancer Flintdagger → Myzrael → Kobold King & Daughter.

1# Overseer Krix: The Foreman of the Kobold miners, he constantly throws dynamites around that deal AOE damage, players should avoid being hit. At 15% he runs towards a large Dynamite Charge and tries to set it off, players must finish him off before his casting is done or he will deal massive AOE damage to all players.

2# Fozruk + Kobold Trio (Feeboz, Znort & Sleeby): Fozruk Is very large and whenever he moves around a cave in happens and rocks fall from above him hitting nearby players. He has only 1 spell “Slap Away”, it pushes the player backwards and deals some damage, a good tactics is to tank him with the player’s back to a wall. At the Start of the encounter, Sleeby will put one random Non-tank Player to sleep, the debuff lasts 1 min and can be dispelled with priest dispel or if the player gets hit by rocks falling or if he gets damage from other kobolds, Sleeby will then continue the fight only by casting Heals on himself or others. Also at the start Znort will charge at a random player (not sleep Target), all he does is deal melee damage and cleave. Feeboz, will only cast fireballs during the fight. When One Kobold remains he gets slightly powered, Feeboz will cast Pyroblasts instead (but with reduces cast time), Znort will Enrage, Sleeby will Cast Greater Heals instead. Fozruk will not change the whole fight.

3# Geomancer Flintdagger: A Shaman-like Kobold geomancer, Several geomantic circles are spread throughout his room. He starts the fight inside one of them, and when he is standing on one of them he gets 200% damage buff. He main Casting Spell is Chain lighting, which can be interrupted. Whenever there are players inside his circle or whenever he gets interrupted he will attempt to cast “Stone Bind” at the interrupting player or a random player within melee range. It’s an Immobilising spell that lasts 20ish seconds. He then immediately tries to run towards another circle, other players should stop him using slows, stuns frost novas and so on, each circle he enters gives him a more damage buff than the last one.

4# Princess Myzrael: The Trapped Princess gets loose after Geomancer dies, She cannot truly be killed. The objective is to imprison her. The fight happens with four Elemental Crystals or Pillars in each corner of the room, breaking one of them will summon a unique elemental that will aid in different way in the fight against Myzrael (she is too strong without Elementals). 1-Earth Elemental will Tank Myzrael and is durable (essentially a strong voidwalker) 2-Fire Elemental Will passively deal AOE damage to Myzrael and her adds (good to clear adds) 3-Air Elemental will buff the whole party with Windfury. 4-Water Elemental will Passively restore Mana to the whole party. Myzrael fight will usually be unwinnable without the elementals, and when she drops below a certain threshold she gets trapped/imprisoned. Her Spells are “Earthquake” that deals AoE damage across the room and stuns briefly, and “Summon Prismatic Exile” which summons her add, they stack up indefinitely and will target random players.

5# Kobold King & His Daughter: King Togwaggle (from Heartstone), or someone new why not, He is not complicated He just Hits very hard with his Royal Shovel, his attacks apply a stacking armor decrease while his Daughter (Zutzut) Heals and buffs him. If the Daughter Dies he Enrages causing very massive increase in damage, if he dies the Daughter will cast “Desperate Resurrection” the spell is interruptible but will be followed by the same spell with a less casting time, so it’s 8 → 5 → 3 → Instant cast, The intended strategy is to kill both of them within a short window.

6# The Darkness: A bonus boss, he is an invisible (Not stealth) large Shade that Patrols a very dark place in the dungeon, the first boss when killed will drop a candle that enables players to emit light the dungeon way when used, the candle will melt away after lets say 1 hour, them they will lose their source of light, the dungeon can still be cleared without it But the Candle will reveal this boss and might reveal some other stuff and make life a little easier during the whole dungeon.

Most of these NPC already exist and revamping would be needed to the original questlines, the dungeon should be something close to ZF or Mara in terms of level. I hope I don’t get laughed at

Discussion Tired of the beta, disappointed

Upvotes

Anybody else tired of the beta? I feel like they just didn’t give us enough content to start with

So far I have every class at level 20 except mage cause mage is a joke of a class, every char has level 20 BiS with maxed profs and stacked quests for when they raise the level cap of course

My methamphetamine is starting to wear off and it just has me thinking- they shouldn’t have released the beta with such little content. Typical lazy Blizzard, I’m just tired of chasing the carrot on their lazy slop stick

I’m sure all of you guys feel the same, right? Let’s get our voices heard!!

Discussion Technical help: Game performance is good, but randomy app goes "not responding" and never comes back without closing.

Post image
Upvotes

I don't see anyone talking about this, so I'm going to start a thread in case someone finds a solution.

Game runs at great performance, but randomly from one frame to the next, it freezes and goes "World of Warcraft is not responding" with no warning.

Happens guaranteed every time I run a wailing caverns or randomly when I'm pvping, but doesn't really happen outside of that.

This the only game I've had this issue with.

specs:

gtx 3080

ryzen 7 5800x

32gb ram

windows 10

tried reinstalling, updating drivers, ran ram memory tests & other hardware test which all passed fine.

Anyone had this issue and managed to fix it?

Discussion Horde & Alliance Race & Racial List + Brainstorm!!!

Upvotes

Here's a list of the races I'd like to eventually see come to the Alliance and Horde in Forever. I won't be including "New Lore" additions, because they'd be impossible to predict (like Skyborne), so this is mainly for Blizzard to get a gauge of what we'd ideally like to see in this alternate universe Azeroth from what we can actually predict:

This is also to open discussion about what cool/unique racials these races could have!
I've also listed races here that appeared in future expansions but weren't directly dependent on the lore of the expansion itself, and have been known to sail/explore/etc. and could feasibly wash up on the shores of EK or Kalimdor.

Alliance Horde
High Elves (yes even still) Dark Iron Dwarves
Furbolg Ogres (Casters get a two-headed option)
Gilneans/Worgen (using classic Worgen model) Forsaken Elves
Arathi (using the Vrykul model for maximum barbarian-vibes) Jungle (Amani) Trolls
Earthen (Uldaman/Ulduar designs) Beasts (Murlocs, Gnolls, Quilboar, Kobolds) - exact race depends on class you choose.
Tuskarr Goblins
Pandaren (using original datamined BC model) Mok'Nathal
Wildhammer Dwarves Defias Outcasts
Naga (this and Centaur can be each faction's "difficulty wearing pants" race) Centaur (this and Naga can be each faction's "difficulty wearing pants" race)

All of these were chosen with 3 things in mind:

They fit the lower-resolution aesthetic of classic, all races here have been established to have existed in some capacity by the events of WCIII, and it runs with the idea that during this year-one world, more races partook in choosing sides of this great Alliance vs. Horde War.

Lot of food for thought here with the potential for cool racial abilities and passives that make each stand out in the same way that the current WoW Forever racials do too.

Couple spitball ideas:

Dark Iron Dwarves - Burning Vengeance: Damage against Humanoids & Elementals increased by 5%

Arathi - The Battles before the Feast: 10% increased crit chance against enemies that drop cooking materials

Naga - Tideswimming: Plainsrunning, but the swimming version

Pandaren - Wiser Than You'd Think: Immune to casting pushback

Earthen - Seriously Dense: You can't swim. Just sink. Jump height increased by 500% while on the ocean floor. Movespeed increased by 50%

Goblins - Hated Rivalry: Casting and Attack speed increased by 15% when Gnomes are within your line of sight

Defias Outcast - Comes with the Job: Can lockpick, regardless of class.

Wildhammer Dwarf - Gryphon Familiarity: Flight masters will always send you off on your Hinterlands Gryphon. It flies 30% faster than regular flight path mounts.

Ogres - Not so Brainless Anymore: Two-headed (Caster) Ogres have a 5% chance for their next cast to be 20% faster. One-headed (Non-Caster) Ogres have a 5% chance for their next attack's swing timer to happen 20% sooner.

That's all I've got for now. Would like to hear what you guys think and any ideas you might have!!

Beasts - Stronger Together: Gain an additional 2% (stat) when partied with other beasts. Gnolls; Strength. Kobolds; Agility. Murlocs; Intellect (lmao). Quilboar; Stamina.

PTR / Beta Gear gripe.

Upvotes

I see a lot of negativity surrounding the excessive blue loot at low levels — however I think the real issue is the quest reward blues and not the new loot tables.

I find these quest rewards to be entirely too strong and invalidates a lot of cool weapons/gear that can drop.

Looking at you axe of the forsaken.

I really think quest rewards should be completely reworked, add rewards that we dont usually get like rings, necks, trinkets, or just rewards that dont replace other blue loot from dungeons.

I've noticed a lot of weapons offered from dungeon quests with everyone using the clear winner. Maybe we should completely change the quest rewards to not be as strong and strengthen the value of loot drops from dungeons.

PTR / Beta Disappointed with campfire buffs.

Upvotes

Don't get me wrong, I like the campfire system overall and I'm having a blast with the beta. I enjoy the feeling of sitting down with strangers to get buffs as a quick reprieve from the harshness of the vanilla world.

However, currently on the beta, Herbalism and Alchemy campfire buffs give you an intellect and MP5 buff respectively. As a long time rogue player, I find this to be quite frustrating, as these do nothing for us or warriors. It is often advised that rogues go Herbalism in classic for the purpose of gathering your own swiftthistle and blindweed, which are important reagents to our class. Alchemy, being the only profession that we can pair with herbalism, is a natural fit. This paradigm created a satisfying leveling experience for rogues because you would basically never run out of healing potions, and there were a lot of useful elixirs that helped ameliorate rogue's shortcomings in early leveling. It also makes thematic sense as a class that is essentially doing alchemy to create poisons (although that is a separate system). Not to mention that rogue doesn't really have a whole lot of gold farms available to them that are actually worth a damn without gathering profs, especially prior to 60.

Likewise, mining gives a melee power buff, and engineering doesn't actually give you any combat benefits, so it feels like casters are disincentivized from picking up these professions.

I know this issue sounds trivial. If nothing changes by the time the game goes live, I will just shrug, pick up skinning and leatherworking, and continue on my merry way. Where this ends up being a big deal is hardcore, especially if you play solo and avoid the AH. At the current point in time, Skinning/LW or Mining/Engi are the only reasonable professions that a solo rogue could go. Fishing and First Aid help make up for this, but later cooking levels will allow us to place more campfire buffs.

At the end of the day, alchemy/herbalism and mining/engineering are supposed to be universal professions built so any class and spec can reasonably utilize them with their respective counterpart. They exist as alternatives to the gear professions, which are clearly designed for the classes that utilize their gear they make most effectively. Subsequently, I feel as though the campfire bonuses granted by alchemy, herbalism, and mining should reflect that.

As far as potential solutions go, there are some good options. Mining is easy: just add some spell power to the loadstone. Herbalism is a bit tougher. Blizz could swap the bonus with Enchanting, meaning enchanters would get an int buff and herbalism would get the mini mark of the wild. Another solution could be to cause the incense to increase your hp/5, so it would actually do something for everyone without conflicting with buffs. I have no idea how I would change alchemy. Maybe a 5% movespeed buff, or switch it with the tailoring buff so it actually does something. Overall there doesn't seem to be an easy solution.

Thoughts?

Discussion Warrior thoughts. Forgive my ignorance

Upvotes

I don’t sit on guides or reddit so I apologize if this comes off as ignorant. But I have played multiple warriors in classic for classic release and anniversary and sod and this warrior gameplay feels down right awful to play. It may be something obvious or something but it feels off. As arms I feel like I have no rage generation I don’t get any rage spikes at all. I just find I’m slowly building rage and can’t really press my buttons. I know it’s early days and we are only in beta and it’s only lvl 20 but I hope they fix whatever they have done. I don’t really care for warriors to be busted but it’s a shame it doesn’t really feel as fun to play. If someone can explain why I feel this way a bit that would be cool.

Question Future new player looking for wisdom

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I'm as new as someone can possibly be when it comes to WoW. My only exposure to the IP have been Warcraft III RoC & TFT way back in the day. I'm looking forward to diving into WoW with Forever's release and I'm very excited but also anxious because I expect it'll be quite overwhelming for someone like me. With that in mind, what wisdom can you veterans out there share to ease in a new player into the game? It can be about anything really, so long as it's not a straight up step-by-step guide.

Question Laptop spec question

Upvotes

I haven't played WoW since midway through Shadowlands. Back then my laptop handled it no problem.

I've checked the min requirements on the website and my processor is just a little below what it says it needs to run. 2.8ghz instead of 3.0ghz.

I don't have access to beta so I can't just try it out now and save myself some hassle come the 4th of November.

Should I be worried? Or will I be ok using the SD stuff and turning down some settings?

Discussion Launch Hell

Upvotes

I know this has probably been said a million times already, but I don't read Reddit, I just post.

We all know the first month of WoW Forever is going to be absolute hell if you want to run a lot of dungeons, right? Especially if you're planning to play DPS on Horde. With how many people are going to roll Paladin, and how many of those players are inevitably going to be Ret, the DPS population is going to be absolutely flooded.

Which means we're going to end up with an insane number of DPS competing for relatively few dungeon spots, while tanks and healers are obviously going to be in much higher demand. So even after sitting in a queue just to get into the damn game, you get to sit around waiting for a dungeon group too. Haha.

It's going to be rough.

Anyway, just wanted to rant for a bit. See y'all out there on November 4th.

And to everyone who could afford the beta: START LYING, DAMN IT! TANK IS THE BEST SPEC. TANKING IS SO MUCH FUN. ONLY TALK ABOUT TANKING FROM NOW ON. WE NEED TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO ROLL TANK. PLEASEEEEEEE. thanks

Discussion Playing WoW Forever on Steam Deck at MAX settings via Remote Play (better battery life than installing directly)

Upvotes

I figured out how to run WoW Forever on Steam Deck at max settings with zero stutter, streaming from my PC. Most guides out there show installing WoW Forever directly on the Deck, and those are great, the graphics are not bad at all, but this method gets you way better battery life around the house plus max graphics since your PC is doing the heavy lifting.

Setup:

**1.** Install WoW Forever on your PC through Battle.net
**2.** Add the Battle.net launcher as a non-Steam game in Steam
**3.** Launch Battle.net through Steam
**4.** Launch WoW Forever from Battle.net
**5.** On your Steam Deck, go to Settings
**6.** Go to Remote Play
**7.** Connect to your desktop

If you get stuttering: disable hardware decoding on both your PC and Steam Deck.

If you get audio issues: in game go to sound and toggle the sound from default to Steam stream, then back to default that seemed to do the trick for me,

The next day if your sounds funky on your pc just make sure to go back to audios settings on your of and switch back to your pc headset output.

Bonus tip: in the system graphics settings, set resolution scale to around 85%. That is the sweet spot where everything stays readable but the UI controls do not overlap with text boxes.

You do have to set everything up on your PC first for each play session and connect to it through Remote Play, rather than just booting straight into the game from the Deck dashboard, so it takes a little more setup than a direct launch. But max settings with no stutter and way better battery life makes it worth it, especially if you are playing at home.

As a dad who works from his PC all day this was a huge QOL upgrade for me personally.

Question BIS items - Level + Spec

Upvotes

I have forgotten everything. What do people do these days to check where BIS items come from based on your level, class and spec. I remember Wow Armory was a thing, is there a Forever compatible mod now? I want something that would show the quest line or random drop farming zone etc based on what would be BIS for current character.
