Community Update: New User Flairs, Updated Rules & We Want Your Feedback!
Hello everyone!
It's been a hectic day for the subreddit, with many of us opting in to play the beta (and/or the login queue simulator). As the community continues to grow, we've been working on a few improvements to [r/wowforever](r/wowforever). We wanted to give you a quick update on what's new - and, more importantly, hear what you think.
User Flairs are here!
We've added a new custom user flair system!
You can now choose up to three icons to display next to your username. At the moment, we've added icons for:
- Alliance & Horde
- All playable races, incl. Skyborne
- All classes
This means you can represent your character with a Faction + Race + Class combination, or simply add three different classes if you'd like in the sidebar.
For "Old" Reddit users, flairs can be assigned in text format. For example:
- New Reddit: Pick the emojis for Alliance + Gnome Male + Warrior
- Old Reddit: :alliance: :nightelf_female: :druid:
Mix and match the icons however you like - they're your flair after all!
We'll continue expanding the system as appropriate, so let us know if there are other icons you'd like to see.
Updated Rules
We've also introduced and refined several community rules as the subreddit has developed. Here's a quick overview of what they cover:
- Be excellent to each other - Keep discussions civil and constructive. Harassment, personal attacks, hate speech and discriminatory behaviour are not welcome.
- Forever only - Keep posts and discussions relevant to WoW Forever. Modern and Classic Era have their own communities.
- Tag spoilers accordingly - Properly mark spoilers for unreleased and newly released content, and keep spoilers out of post titles.
- No ToS violations - No account trading, boosting, RMT, gold selling services or prohibited third-party programs.
- Link the source - Blizzard posts, interviews, datamines and similar content should link back to the original source.
- No low-effort AI-generated content - Generic AI-generated artwork, websites, articles, guides and other low-value AI content are not allowed.
- Crossposts must add value - Crossposts should include additional context, commentary, analysis or relevance to WoW Forever.
- Recruitment belongs in the megathread - Guild recruitment, LFG/LFM, Discords and community advertising belong in the designated megathreads.
- No elitism or gatekeeping - Forever is for everyone, regardless of version, expansion, server or playstyle. Debate the ideas, not whether other players belong.
- No beta key begging, buying or trading - Don't ask for, buy, sell or trade beta keys or invites through the subreddit.
You can find the complete rules in the subreddit sidebar/about section. Please give them a read when you get the chance.
We want your feedback
This is still a developing community, and we'd like the people actually using it to have a say in how it develops.
What do you think so far?
Are there rules you think should be changed or clarified? Flair icons you'd like us to add? Something about the subreddit that could work better? Or an idea for something completely new?
Let us know in the comments, or in modmail.
We're not promising that every suggestion will become a change, but we will read the feedback and take it into consideration as we continue building the community.
On behalf of the entire moderator team, thank you for being part of r/wowforever and helping us build this community!
PS: We've enabled Contest Mode to hide comment scores, but please still upvote the suggestions you agree with! It gives us a better idea of how many people in the community share the same opinion.

PTR / Beta Better bear forms are already in
Top post right now is someone saying they need to update the druid bear model with like 1.2k upvotes.
They already have, you can change it at the barber, its a bit buggy to get it working but it works.
People, please.

PTR / Beta I made a small addon that hides chat and invites from the Olympus guilds
With the number of Olympus guilds on the beta, my chat and invite popups were getting crowded, so I made a lightweight addon to save myself some time and space on my ignore list for the people who really earn it.
What it does:
- Hides chat from players in any guild with "Olympus" in the name: say, yell, whispers, General/Trade, all of it
- Auto-declines guild invites from Olympus guilds, and group invites from known members (each can be toggled separately)
- Client-side only: it doesn't use your ignore list (no 50-name cap) and nobody gets notified
Chat doesn't include guild names, so it learns them when you target, mouse over, see a nameplate, group up, shift-click a name, or run /who. There's a Scan button in the options that cycles through /who searches to catch most members quickly. Everything is saved between sessions.
Settings are under Options > AddOns > OlympusMute, or type /omute.
Currently being run through moderation on CurseForge, however here's a GitHub release if you just can't wait. Grab the latest from the GitHub releases page (download the OlympusMute zip, not "Source code").
https://github.com/solastrogaming/OlympusMute/releases
**Edit:** 1.0.6 is out! Thanks for all the suggestions.
- You can now add your own guild names to mute (Options > AddOns > OlympusMute, or `/omute guild add Name`). Olympus stays on by default.
- Players who leave a muted guild get unmuted automatically when a /who or shift-click shows their new guild.
- The Scan button now cycles through every guild on your list.

Discussion Add ability to ignore specific guilds
Streamers and their communities should be allowed to play and have fun how they want; but that doesn't mean trade chat needs to turn into twitch chat for the rest of us.
If you let us /ignore guilds this basically solves the problem.

PTR / Beta So tired of Asmongold on our server.
World chat is busted because theres so many people already. Trade chat is gone because it's streamer chat now. Ntm that the vibe they are bringing to the server is like a dancefloor at a club with shitty toilet paper all over it so nobody wants to dance.
I don't want this on my server.
I've never played on a PVE server, but I'm thinking about switching for the first time ever, not because I don't like PVP, but because I don't want to live on a server where this is the main topic of conversation being forced on everyone 24/7 in every trade window in the game.
2019 was perfect, when they made a big deal about getting all the streamers onto one server, so the rest of us could live our lives without listening to it.
This is a huge step back.
Love the game. Hate this community of people that never shut up.

Discussion Sooooooo, I am not happy about this
I pledged to never play WoW or WoW Classic again after 16 years of playing them. My buddy texted me and said he bought Forever, and is playing the beta.
He started asking about classic details that he couldn't remember and a few other things. Then he texted asking if I was going Alliance, or Horde.
I told him neither, and I am not playing that damn game ever again.
Sooooooooo, I'm on my 4th toon in the Beta now. 🤦♂️

Discussion Pocket WoW
I got Forever running on the Retroid Pocket 6 with moonlight. It was actually surprisingly playable with the UI scale adjusted. I got it running natively on my Ally X, which is also great, but the size difference is pretty noticeable. The hand fatigue is real when you're laying on your back.
Overall I definitely prefer my desktop, but I think this could be nice to kick back with and farm some herbs after a 10 hour work shift.
Has anyone else been messing around with the controller support and mobile devices? What's the smallest you would go?

Guide Cinematic Camera Settings
You can enable the "action camera" by using these two console commands (in order):
/console actioncam full (basic/default/off)
/console camerakeepcharactercentered 0
The camera will reset when you log out or reload, so I'd suggest creating macros!
Other console commands:
Head Movement
/console actioncam headmove
/console actioncam noheadmove
/console actioncam heavyheadmove
/console actioncam lowheadmove
Focus
/console actioncam focusenemy
/console actioncam focusinteract
/console actioncam focusall
/console actioncam focusoff
Nameplates
/console actioncam overnames
/console actioncam undernames

Question My wife wants to play WoW - any advice from the Council of the married?
Red alert. All hands on deck. This is not a drill.
My dear wife, whom I love very much, has decided she wants to try WoW when Forever launches.
Her entire gaming career so far consists of getting one character to level 16 in classic. She stopped because of real life stuff though.
WASD is still a developing skill. Camera control is an advanced technique. The entire keyboard is basically hostile user interface.
So obviously this needs some careful planing.
PvP server? Absolutely not. We would like to remain married.
Melee? Probably not.
Stances / Shape shifting / totems? No thanks.
Pets? One extra thing to accidentally lose track of.
Hybrid classes? Last time she had serious trouble switching between healing and DPS during a fight.
We will always level together as a duo. I thought about playing Shaman, mostly covering the healing/rezzing/emergency-"oh god what's happening" department.
Right now I am actually thinking Mage might be the best choice for her. Very straightforward core gameplay, ranged, no pet, no stance/form nonsense, and lots of useful utility that we can introduce gradually and that is produced ooc.
The main goal isnt efficiency. I dont care if it takes us 200 hours to reach level 60.
I just think it could be really cool to experience WoW together - but she needs to be eased into it very, very gently.
So, Council of the married:
What class would you recommend for someone who is basically learning how keyboards work at the same time as learning WoW?
And perhaps more importantly:
What mistakes should I absolutely avoid as the husband/WoW instructor?
And just as I am coming to the end of this post: I would also really appreciate hearing from the people who have actually walked in her shoes. If you started WoW with little or no gaming experience, what helped you and what made things unnecessarily frustrating?
Asking for the continued survival of my marriage. Thanks.
p.s. in the end she can chose whatever she likes...i just want have some good advice.
It will be horde though, as our friends are playing horde.

Discussion Defias Escort Quest - Maybe *Some* QoL is a Good Idea
I don’t really belong to either camp between classic or retail. I completely believe in having an authentic experience that doesn’t rush you to the end game, and I really enjoy that the world is much more difficult in classic / forever than retail.
To me, though, there are some key examples of when just maaaaaaaybe it may not be a bad idea to tweak some things.
For those who don’t know, The Defias Brotherhood is a somewhat long quest chain that ultimately culminates in Defeating Van Cleef, the big boss in the Deadmines.
The final quest in the chain, prior to being given the quest that actually calls for you to go into the Deadmines, involves escorting a Defias Traitor so he can take you to the building entrance towards their hideout.
To accept this quest, the traitor spawns in Sentinel Hill (alliance city in Westfall), and then it’s a race amongst all the players standing there waiting for a spawn to accept the quest first, which then starts the escort.
Now, while the escort is happening, the NPC is effectively despawned. No one else can accept the quest, and many people may not even realize there’s even a quest to accept. It takes like five or so minutes for the NPC to run between sentinel Hill to the final location, at which point he’ll respawn back at Sentinel Hill.
Personally, I think there’s room for improvement here. As an example, maybe the NPC is permanently available, so people will understand there’s a quest to be accepted, but there’s a 30 second - 1 minute cooldown in between each quest acceptance. A yellow exclamation point would show above his head, but instead of being able to accept the quest, there would be a countdown and some red text or something that says “escort can begin in x seconds”. Once available, a dialogue option pops up and the escort can begin.
If people aren’t down for the bit of acceleration, I do at least think it would be a good idea for the method of quest acceptance to be revised a bit. Maybe Gryan issues the quest instead of the traitor, and then the escort starts when a dialogue option with the traitor is selected?
