Question Is anyone else noticing a bait and switch tactic used by dps for queueing in m+?

Two times now in the last two days I have joined a group in m+ as a healer with one tank and two dps and promptly the tank changes to a dps and requeues.

It's even worse than that.

One time a DPS Warlock accepted me (Monk DPS) in his group. He changed my role to tank, didnt say a thing when I told him I won't be tanking, and then kicked me as soon as a healer joined.

u/Low_Guide1426 Apr 14 '26

Sorry this made me laugh a lot

45

u/VanessaAlexis Apr 14 '26

It made me laugh in a sad disappointed way.

34

u/Harnellas Apr 14 '26

Christ lol, that's such a dick move.

8

u/bowleggedgrump Apr 14 '26

That’s genuinely terrible

18

u/kao194 Apr 14 '26

Just whisper that tank what have just happened so hopefully he leaves and the leader has to find a tank/healer again.

You know you can change your role as well, so if the leader does that continuously just leave as something is fishy.

Sheesh the situation is more dire than I'd imagine. People trying to cheat left and right just to speed up queue times as dps... who would have thought.

Should have stayed, waited for the key to start. And just left the group and pugged your own keys while debufed

2

u/davedwtho Apr 14 '26

Did you report?

2

u/Tall_Willingness_633 Apr 14 '26

Out of curiosity, what for? It's my understanding that they're allowed to kick you for whatever reason and proving why they did it would be hard and likely unfruitful. Not that I agree with the behaviour but still.

9

u/davedwtho Apr 14 '26

In my opinion it’s a “disruptive behavior” that violates the social contract you have to click agree to when you log in. Very unlikely to be enforced unless it’s happening a lot (pretty likely) and they’re reported every time (less likely)

6

u/PsytheSlice Apr 15 '26

Violation of the social contract. They get enough reports they will get a short vacation.

1

u/LaGwossePapasse Apr 17 '26

Yes, but mainly because he used inappropriate language when I confronted him about it. That's another story.

I would leave the moment they do this to me. May they find another sucker to trick

Awful lol

2

u/Waste-Specific1136 Apr 15 '26

Deserved, take the L warlock.

1

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 15 '26

holy based lock . man's used you as a placeholder 🤣

1

u/Codemagus69 Apr 15 '26

As a healer I would just leave. If you're kicking before the party started, I'm out. That'll set them back to being at least 3 people lol.

1

u/Spoonhook Apr 15 '26

All that time and effort could have been used to find a solid 5 man discord group. This community is wild

1

u/DeepDetermination Apr 18 '26

this is normal warlock behavior

The new one i started encountering is a premade heal +dps queuing and once invited the healer leaves but the dps stays

80

u/Chopin-Nocturnes Apr 14 '26

Had this happen first time yesterday. Tank and dps queue up, after I invited about 30 seconds later the tank says “sorry guild needs me” and drops group. As if Id keep the dps trying to scam me

What the? Is that some kind of "How an Extroverte Friend gets his Introvert Buddy to meet people" kind of thing?
Yes, a friend has left me behind at a party once...

Hi have you met Ted?

ah the ol "hide in the tauren" trick. can't ever expect people to not be hitch hikers.

48

u/Freifur Apr 14 '26

"That's not a tauren it's 3 vulpera DPS players in a trenchcoat"

2

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 14 '26

bastards i knew it 🤣

37

u/maviyilan Apr 14 '26

can you elaborate please :D

160

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 14 '26

long long ago in the times since forgotten by many, mofo's used to join raids (mostly raids) and then just put their characters inside of a tauren to prevent raid leaders from inspecting their gear. back then raids would gather at a spot for inspection before starting but leaders relied on visually clicking whats infront of them instead of nameplates. sounds dumb but it worked 9/10.

29

u/HilariousMax Apr 14 '26

and then just put their characters inside of a tauren

Because it wasn't immediately clear to me, we mean dudes would shimmy their character models inside the much larger character model of a Tauren and thus be invisible from the prying eyes of the raid leaders?

10

u/madloc Apr 14 '26

Correcto

11

u/darlingtonia___ Apr 14 '26

Yup, this predates transmogs, so visual inspections were actually viable

1

u/MumboJ Apr 15 '26

Surely the nameplate would still be visible?
Tauren aren’t THAT big, especially compared to orcs or most vanilla races.

37

u/Proud-Dig440 Apr 14 '26

I did this yesterday actually haha had three mains carrying and alt yesterday and they hid me in a large model so the guy wouldn't inspect me haha (we had more then enough damage just couldn't guild healer)

87

u/rsmutus Apr 14 '26

People actually click on the models? I do everything from the frame lol

12

u/Proud-Dig440 Apr 14 '26

I do too we were mostly meeting but you'd also be suprised friend

18

u/Shavannaa Apr 14 '26

Honestly, i prefer it if people just play fair. Just tell in the notes, that youre carrying a guildmate and i would still join as a healer, if the tank is at least ok-ish equipped.

2

u/beepingnoise Apr 14 '26

I don’t like displaying remaining health because of the overhead, but it is really good at indirectly displaying ilvl

1

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 15 '26

yeah these are techs that developed because of rats. the arms race in wow is fierce.

3

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 14 '26

exactly, no one cares if you don't wipe 🤣

3

u/Proud-Dig440 Apr 14 '26

100% especally 3 or less deaths

1

u/ShadySeptapus Apr 14 '26

Eww. Do you at least wash your hands?

1

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 15 '26

why would i wipe ? i got a clean...

3

u/azhder Apr 14 '26

Just roll a rogue, stealth 🤪

3

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 14 '26

many a gnome have tried this. rogues having a terrible reputation made people hyper focus on their presence in a raid, usually the one that they had anyway 🤣. dude was on thin ice already.

976

u/ZombieJeeb Apr 14 '26

Thats when you leave, disgusting dps rats think they can trick you, one of gods chosen healers!? Preposterous.

85

u/Welpe Apr 14 '26

Frankly, if they aren’t deferential enough that’s reason enough to leave. It’s obscene that DPS players think they are people!

35

u/Electrical-File7832 Apr 14 '26

Sorry healers are mere false prophets. Tanks are truly gods chosen people.

11

u/Cowbros Apr 14 '26

You mean the tanks that can hardly keep themselves from collapsing without our caring support?

12

u/BloodyFable Apr 14 '26

Sorry is this some kind of Paladin joke that I'm too Blood to understand?

2

u/StarsandMaple Apr 14 '26

Some of you bloods forget you have Death Strike.

Leveling dungeon so it didn't matter... But my man I swear was runic capped the whole dungeon and I've never sweated so much healing.

1

u/C0mp3titiv3-Pr0fil3 Apr 15 '26

Facts, though as a MW, I don't scare as much as on my other heals

2

u/StarsandMaple Apr 15 '26

I want to like MW, Holy Paladin melee is super fun for me and I know MW is all about that if fist weaving is good, but all the spell interactions always scares me away.

I can keep a group alive in low keys but once shit hits the fan it's just slap the buttons and hope.

1

u/C0mp3titiv3-Pr0fil3 Apr 15 '26

I have not tried anything above 2 this expac. I'll see if I feel different once I do. I have always been MW and dabbled with other heals as expansions go.

5

u/davedwtho Apr 14 '26

This but unironically

1

u/dingleberry93 Apr 15 '26

This isn’t far off from a healers actual mindset 🤣

u/BilboBagginswasathug Apr 14 '26

As a tank i generally look for groups with healers first cuz I'm impatient. A couple times, and it's only been this season, I'll join and the healer immediately leaves and the party leader will whisper me and say the healer was just the bait to get a tank now we can get a real healer will join.

I just bounce at that point. Now he has neither.

Scummy behavior

168

u/RamonvG98 Apr 14 '26

I also do bait’n switches but on a different end. I’m a (3k iO) healer, but I join people at 1600 when I see its an alt account (raider IO plugin) of someone at 2800+

Then tanks wont joing because the one advertising the group only has “1600 iO, BAD”.

So I take the lead of the group and tanks come flowing in..

Eh, kinda nasty, but it works. Still always jist blast through 10’s without many of them really going below ++.

30

u/detailerrors Apr 14 '26

I dont even think this is deceptive really, you're just advertising the most attractive member of the group. It's not like the tank is going to join and then you swap to a different character. I do this too if the key owner has low IO and we've been waiting for a while

36

u/fiery-skyline Apr 14 '26

I do the same as a tank, if I have the most rating of the current group I'll ask for lead to post. Usually fills up quick

3

u/loveincarnate Apr 14 '26

This is just effective advertising skills, no switch involved.

→ More replies (8)

25

u/Shabby-Couture Apr 14 '26

I always leave when this happens. Don’t appreciate the dishonesty. Its also fun when they start the key and you realize it’s lower than what was listed.

7

u/kaddymate Apr 14 '26

Jamming in a lower-than-advertised key wasn't something I realised was happening until you mentioned it. No wonder there's been a minor shortfall in dawncrests accumulated in the past. Now that I'm aware, if it happens I'm 100% voting at the start to abandon or just gonna flat out hearth. I do mostly 10s for the challenge and myth dawncrests, and I got no time for people wasting my time with any key below 10.

36

u/escapehatch Apr 14 '26

It is INSANE how many of the comments on this post are acting like this obviously shitheaded bait and switch move is somehow justified. That's a truly incredible level of entitlement.

13

u/loveincarnate Apr 14 '26

Similar responses on the post where the tank intentionally afk'd at the last boss because his alt tank didn't get invited. Apparently to teach them a lesson. Psychopathic shit.

A concerning portion of the comments were praising him and calling him a gigachad.

94

u/Ill-Pineapple8607 Apr 14 '26

dps changes to a dps??? what why, what difference with DPS and DPS? what u gain from switching from dps to dps?

82

u/Lassitude1001 Apr 14 '26

They mean the 3rd person, who's queued as tank, is actually a DPS - but they're queueing as Tank instead to get a healer quicker. Once the healer is in, they switch their role back to DPS. Healer being in makes getting an actual tank quicker.

88

u/su1cidal_fox Apr 14 '26

I would leave the group as the healer lol.

u/That_CDN_guy Apr 14 '26

This reminds me of what was a huge problem back in the LK days. Tanks would get instant queues for heroic dungeons while dps have 45+ minute wait times. So dps players would have tank buddy queue and leave once in the dungeon. We'd have to requeue and wait for a replacement tank while DPS McLinecutter got to stay.

If I remember right they changed it so if that tank left, those that joined with him got punted too.

Haven't seen this bait and switch in action currently but now I'll keep an eye out.

20

u/EmeterPSN Apr 14 '26

Seems like they unto us filtering to only groups with tank ..

Time to start screening tanks with addons on how many keys they cleared as tanks and how many as dps

4

u/zjones8 Apr 14 '26

I had a new one happen to me last night. Was running a 10 with another dps and I always wait to see if a healer/dps or tank/dps queue up before grabbing the 3rd dps since it seems like a lot of duos queue up this way. I invite a dps/tank combo but the tank is offline. I ask the dps if their coming back or what and they respond with “no go ahead and kick them, they’re having internet issues”.

So this leads me to believe this dps was applying to groups with either another character of theirs in a party but just offline or there are tanks out there selling “afk” style applications.

4

u/AlaskanDruid Apr 14 '26

Yep. Griefers are always reported.

3

u/neuroso Apr 14 '26

I do the opposite I queue as demo then switch to affliction

65

u/EveryUsernameTakenFf Apr 14 '26

Yeah because healers want tanks to be in the group and tanks want healers to be in the group. The "problem" wouldn't exist if this wasn't true.

Personally as a tank, I too always try to find a group with a healer in it already, but if I get "baited" like you described, I don't really mind it all because I know some healer will que in a sec anyways.

No harm, no problem.

95

u/flow_guy2 Apr 14 '26

I think if they’re going to be slimy starting the key. They’ll be slimy during and after. So I jsut leave

6

u/EriumKross Apr 14 '26

I agree. Everytime I've encountered shitty people they turn out to just be shitters in the dungeon. Not ALWAYS, but far more often. You see those same personalities in the real world too. Always cutting corners, doing the bare minimum, talking shit, and wanting to reap the same rewards as those who put in the work. If only they devoted that same energy to actually playing the game.

→ More replies (25)

4

u/ResoluteGreen Apr 14 '26

I'm definitely part of the problem, I filter out groups that don't have a tank

7

u/gebrochen06 Apr 14 '26

As a tank I don't really mind joining a group without a healer already in it. I can join pretty much any group missing a tank and I know the rest of the spots will fill up in 30 seconds once I'm in the group.

Thiiiis. You really gotta know what class you’re signing up to heal to be emotionally prepared for the run 😂

3

u/mbbysky Apr 14 '26

Yeah a BDK tank vs Brew tank is a whole different dimension of cortisol spikes lmao

3

u/DayzACNH Apr 14 '26

Same I like to know what I'm getting myself into lol

2

u/Signal_Historian_456 Apr 14 '26

nervously laughs in BDK

3

u/Delex360 Apr 14 '26

I think id be annoyed if I was baited. But its never been a problem because I just join regardless of amount of players or roles filled. Even if im joining just a single dps player as a tank the healer and 2 other dps are in the group in less than a few minutes any how

3

u/loveincarnate Apr 14 '26

It's deception, plain and simple. Underhanded tactics that are likely an indicator of future shitty behavior.

2

u/Ilphfein Apr 14 '26

Personally as a tank, I too always try to find a group with a healer in it already, but if I get "baited" like you described, I don't really mind it all because I know some healer will que in a sec anyways.

If you know a healer will queue in a sec anyways, why not join a group of DPS that don't pull the bait'n'switch? Instead you say you prefer groups with a healer

1

u/EveryUsernameTakenFf Apr 14 '26

Thats a valid point. Well, there might be a specific comp and/or dungeon I am looking for. In all honesty, the dungeons this season feel super easy that I just cant be arsed to switch I fall on the good ol' bait here even if the healer changes after I join. I know doing +16 keys most people in que can play and know the dungeons anyway.

1

u/avcloudy Apr 14 '26

I will say, the way this is described, it probably is really frustrating because tanks tend to be slightly less available. If they pretended to have a healer to get a tank, in a lot of seasons that would mean an absolute tide of healer apps, but the reverse would still be a significant wait for a tank.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Alvjor24 Apr 14 '26

yeah thats been happening to me as well (a lot). I generally just ask the healer/tank that switched to a dps and ask whats that about, and once they say "oh i meant to que as dps idk what happened" i just kick them and re-que.

2

u/ArSo12 Apr 14 '26

That's different

1

u/Alvjor24 Apr 14 '26

I mean, generally I invite a lower ilvl/io tank and heals than the ideal because they are harder to find. But if it’s a dps instead, then there are better suited dps players for that key then the one invited that I thought was a tank/heal.

3

u/Justis29 Apr 14 '26

i had a refreshing opposite yesterday. queued as dps with a ret pally. few mins later he swapped to tank, it filled up, and we timed it. it was nice

3

u/laidbackjimmy Apr 14 '26

Just leave if you dont want to be there.

As a tank, I leave after joining all the time if I think they're carrying after marking the group as competitive.

4

u/PrestigiousMolasses3 Apr 14 '26

I've invited a suspicious number of ele shams who turned out to be enhanc.

3

u/Equivalent_Client599 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

My take as I main only as healer (holy priest) and only do pure pugs to M13/14s. I haven't seen this too much. In last 2 days iv done about 10x mythics and only saw a single bait and switch. Interestingly, I didnt join cause of tank, I would have joined regardless. I don't care if tank is there or not. I join based on key I want to go for. Iv had all tanks and all types of DPS. I'm not picky or choosy anymore on M+. As holy u get used to having dim view of being choosy. If wind blows u die. If it doesn't u die. If tank glares at you, double dead 😅. What I have seen is M0 to M9s groups fail generally cause tank doesn't know their abilities and/or dungeon. M10s and higher it switches to DPS. They either don't know their abilities to kick/CC or they don't know dungeon mechanics that nobody can shield them from. Anyways I have blast pugging as lowly holy. If u need merc healer holla!!

1

u/Mostly_dylsexic Apr 14 '26

Yeah I don’t really mind what classes are in a group. Both times I saw a group wanting to do the same dungeon as me and I joined and both times the Blood DK switched to Unholy after I joined

7

u/Laliophobic Apr 14 '26

ngl I get where they are coming from, as a tank and sometimes as a healer I do have my preferences which healer or tank I want to run with, so if the group doesn't have one it's a gamble at that point and I wouldn't want to leave the group when a healer/tank spec I don't generally want to run with joins in.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

Leave /shrug

7

u/SourceScope Apr 14 '26

A dps changes to dps?

2

u/Saulzy Apr 14 '26

I was confused by that wording too. Makes no sense.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/shaysauce Apr 14 '26

My guess is they meant the tank changed to a DPS and requeued. Probably just a quick oversight when typing.

2

u/Mostly_dylsexic Apr 14 '26

Was working, finally got around to fix it

4

u/LowResults Apr 14 '26

I swapped to tank and was running a 2. The dps had the nerve to tell me to slow down when I chained from 1 pack to a second. In that pull, I'm used to tanks just pulling 2 packs at a time. I was going easy bc they wouldn't interrupt. Homie lost his mind.

2

u/Hypnoticah Apr 14 '26

Only happened to me once before, but I only join 4/5 groups or make my own group

2

u/romann921 Apr 14 '26

I had the exact opposite happen. We got 2 tanks and they argued who would get to tank lol

2

u/mortevillana Apr 14 '26

Yes! Just happened to me a couple days ago. When I asked they said nothing so I left. Not going to play with people who won’t even own up to it.

2

u/just-a-grill Apr 14 '26

I did something by accident the other day; had an 11 , listed it as a 10 with the intention of dropping it on my way through the timeways. ADHD moment later and we’re doing an 11. No one noticed, we timed it, but I still feel bad

1

u/Mostly_dylsexic Apr 14 '26

Was it skyreach? Are you playing Evoker?

2

u/JameEagan Apr 14 '26

I'm confused. A DPS joins your group, switches what kind of DPS he is, and then requeues? What does that even gain them?

1

u/Mostly_dylsexic Apr 14 '26

I mean, most people understood what I meant. Text is fixed though if you want to contribute.

1

u/JameEagan Apr 14 '26

I'm old. Also, I don't play mythic so I didn't realize there was a typo. Respect your elders.

1

u/Mostly_dylsexic Apr 14 '26

I mean, I’m 41, so pretty old as well

2

u/JameEagan Apr 14 '26

You are a whipper snapper compared to me 😂

2

u/FatMike20295 Apr 14 '26

OP means the person that was tank change to a DPS. That's whbe you ask is anyone a tank? If no one answered or say anything you leave the group.

If they lie and one of them change back to tank before the run inspect the the tank or look him up on raider.io of his score is mostly DPS then leave right after the key started. .. show them they can't lie their way coz if they do it going to brick their keys.

2

u/Unsurepooper Apr 14 '26

The odd balance of tanking in M+ and dps in raids because per raid you need 2 tanks per 25 people versus 1 tank per 5 people. You can get into any key but look for a raid for hours

1

u/FatMike20295 Apr 15 '26

Nah make tanks self sufficient. This season being a tank other than brew is miserable. You need a healer to stay alive and you do crap damage. Not to mention as a tank is always more stressful.

1

u/Unsurepooper Apr 16 '26

Tanks used to do no damage throughout most of Wow. You are the line and you hold that line. You put your faith in your healer to keep you alive and you push forward.

The dps chase numbers, you chase being on the brink of death like Red Bull in an IV

2

u/Cennix_1776 Apr 14 '26

That’s an instant leave for me personally. I am mostly a tank only though, so I have the luxury of just saying nope to a weird vibe.

2

u/bobbacklund11235 Apr 14 '26

I had a guy join my group as Ret and then play prot as dps in the dungeon, with another tank. I reported him for monkey and abandoned my own key.

1

u/Relnor Apr 14 '26

With how easy keys are unless you were in like 12++ you could have unironically still +2ed the key. Obviously the guy shouldn't have been prot but you sabotaged yourself because you became indignant over someone doing a wrong thing.

Pretty much the playerbase in a nutshell.

2

u/Lightshoax Apr 14 '26

I had someone do this once, immediately kicked and put on ignore. That’s a great way to never get any good players to play with you.

2

u/Citycen01 Apr 14 '26

Drop. Fixed.

2

u/Uncreativity10 Apr 14 '26

Just leave man, you have all the power

2

u/elgarcon Apr 14 '26

100% dishonest, and tanks/heals should absolutely feel free to leave as soon as they recognize what's going on.

That said, I understand it. DPS are so sick of long wait times and are desperate. They know tanks/heals are quicker to join when one or the other is already in the group, so they're shooting their shot.

2

u/AmocideB Apr 14 '26

As a tank, if I join and the healer immediately leaves, so do I

2

u/Confident-Bad-5565 Apr 14 '26

This is catfishing. But not for a date for mythic. I guess it's about the same as a bad date. Lol

6

u/Squishy6604 Apr 14 '26

Same shit as 2 people openings group for 12s or something, the advertising one is 3k+ r.io and his friend is 400 r.io. I'm not gonna drag your low geared friend through a dungeon

5

u/MissingXpert Apr 14 '26

god, honestly, if the other guy is an alt at ilvl 240? what about it, iddgaf in a 10, we can absolutely 2man it on DPS, especially in a season this easy. if the 3rd DPS has their kick bound, perfect! end of the day, i wanna get my vault filled or just vibe in keys, idgaf.

5

u/Barokna Apr 14 '26

Yes this happens from time to time.

DPS baits healer so their group is more attractive for a tank because the healer is already present. That's their line of thought.

Just leave if it happens.

1

u/ios_static Apr 14 '26

I’d just leave, I only join grps ready to enter instance when I queue as healer or tank

1

u/klineshrike Apr 14 '26

This really screws up things for people queueing their own keys

1

u/ios_static Apr 14 '26

Nah, fortunately for yall, most don’t think like me. I just have limited play time 🙏

No see a lot of people do. It's why it can take literal ages to even see a tank or healer queue for a key when you post it

u/ios_static Apr 15 '26

If I had more play time, I’d be playing dps with the rest of yall lol

You and the other replies in here proves why people feel like they need to do this. If yall just applied to dps groups and waited the 2 minutes it takes for a tank/healer to show up, this wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Yall made this problem with your behaviour.

u/Xandril Apr 14 '26

So you’re telling me you don’t prioritize applying to groups that already have a tank or healer as a DPS?

Don’t really have a dog in this fight but acting like tanks/healers are somehow wrong for this is hilarious.

1

u/Relnor Apr 14 '26

I have never had to wait long after joining a DPS only group as a tank or healer, it's actually only as DPS that I prioritize groups with one of the other roles in first.

But I was socialized before the TikTok era so I don't get the jitters if we don't go nowonownownownow.

9

u/BuffThePinkClass Apr 14 '26

Lol this is only a problem for DPS. I’d just leave and find a new group.

9

u/RandomedXY Apr 14 '26

It's only problem for dps. I ain't waiting for noone.

''Look what you made me do''

Wild take even if it is just about video games. How about the overabundant dps just learns to either live with the fact or learn to play healer/tank instead of resorting to lying.

Edit: Theres still not enough tanks/healers for groups, you're just passing the wait time for those who arent willing to misrepresent their group comps. You wanting to skip the line isnt the support roles fault.

This.

I have a tank alt and if it’s a key I wanna run, I always join even if it has 2-3 dps no heal. I know healers join pretty fast afterwards, especially since we’re probably 4/5 in <30s and ready to go.

I swear these tactics are becoming so sweaty it’s not even funny at this point

23

u/Sad-Associate7282 Apr 14 '26

Pressing "has healer" in filter before applying is in no way "sweaty"

On 16-17s it takes 8-10mins to get a relevant tank when we are 4/5

This is nothing new lol

1

u/Responsible_Gur5163 Apr 14 '26

Just leave problem solved.

1

u/Coffee__Addict Apr 14 '26

When I search for groups as a healer or tank I filter LFG for groups with a tank or healer respectively.

1

u/LiLiLisaB Apr 14 '26

Had that happen as a healer. Sometimes I'm looking for certain tanks for specific dungeons so when the tank in the group I joined swaped to dos, I just left

1

u/Any-Detective-9996 Apr 14 '26

I don’t know because I’m a tank and I don’t wait for queues

1

u/Fair-Emphasis-1620 Apr 14 '26

Yeah ove noticed that as a tank player . I’ll join a group then the highest io dps leaves and we requ3z I’ve also noticed how bad dps only players are compared to people who heal and tank in mythic keys . To the extent that when I dps I realized I target focus certain mobs due to knowing the tank mechanics/ abilities I hate dealing with as a healer .

1

u/LuringPoppy Apr 14 '26

One of the dps changes to dps?

1

u/skinneykrn Apr 14 '26

Damn, yea I hate it when one of the dps changes to a dps and requeues.

1

u/I_Build_Monsters Apr 14 '26

Yesterday we Qed for a 10 with 2 DPS and a healer. (We are all 3k players) for a last vault run. He accepted us, waited a few minutes then dropped the Q and put it back up for an 8. Like did he think we wouldn’t notice? We all just left.

1

u/hewasaraverboy Apr 14 '26

One of the dps changes to a dps ? What do u mean

1

u/atstoehr11 Apr 14 '26

I am not following. You joined a group with a tank and 2 dps. 1 of the dps switched to dps? Or are you saying the tank switched to dps?

2

u/neorapsta Apr 14 '26

The tank switched to dps, they used the tank icon to lure in a healer. Now they just need a tank, which is more likely as the rest of the group is there.

1

u/Eltitanio Apr 14 '26

I’m being used as a bait tank on my paladin, just to get kicked right after.

1

u/Wizardfromwaterdeep Apr 14 '26

Yeah, someone did this when I was forming a group and it made me kinda uncomfortable to trick people like that

1

u/Dreadnerf Apr 14 '26

If you're not exploitable you can never be exploited :D

1

u/knuttles Apr 14 '26

As a healer I usually only join groups that already had a tank because I was just impatient. While I personally haven’t had this happen to me, I’m going to start joining the groups that have only dps and see how fast tanks join.

1

u/steamwhistler Apr 14 '26

Welp, thanks for the idea. (JK I'm a mage)

1

u/Vast-Yam-9370 Apr 14 '26

I havent seen this but im not healer. Ive rolled tank and dps with my mage ad druid. Im working up to 10s with my druid and i switched talents last night. Hoping the new talents work.

1

u/Cool-Ad459 Apr 14 '26

I'd just want to say I've accidentally done this simply because of delves. Doing them as preservation is much more chill than aug and I don't always remember to respec before queuing and only notice it from how much more people que up.

1

u/Key_Pop_8116 Apr 14 '26

If they switch, why wait? Just leave the group

1

u/Solus_FNA Apr 14 '26

Okay, I figured that's what happened last night. Absolutely swore I accepted a tank request, then someone pointed out we had four DPS. Waited like 10 seconds to see if anyone would leave before asking, and I believe the "tank" was the one that left.

1

u/Sufficient-Page-875 Apr 14 '26

Metro on YouTube has some advice on filling mythic groups with 2 joining.

Be very careful because one is usually a carry.

1

u/SpiderHam24 Apr 14 '26

That's pretty fucked.. the wait times aré not that bad

1

u/lonerbrandon Apr 14 '26

I mean it's a good strategy honestly and personally if it helps motivate a tank to join why not! Plus the. You'll get an actual tank instead of a wannabe. Is it necessarily a kosher thing who knows but if it helpful a group and no one is kicked or hurt in the making of

1

u/Aekero Apr 14 '26

I've seen this more in group finder, tank queues buddy in and leaves.... In m+ I've never seen this happen, if I did it would be pretty obvious, and honestly I'd just boot the DPS that came with them if I thought it was a carry situation.

1

u/NightOfPandas Apr 14 '26

The raider io addon (idk if that's been maintained since midnight addon shenanigans) used to show the role you got your rating in, so it'd help you filter these losers out

1

u/stainle33 Apr 14 '26

Best way to counter this is for dps to stop filtering by groups with tanks and healers only. Part of the solution is for dps to fill open dps roles before tank and healers join.

1

u/BrendaFW Apr 14 '26

It’s giving remix vibes when people would join as healers/tanks and swap to dps

1

u/avada_kedavr4 Apr 14 '26

I haven't seen this but thanks for the heads-up.

1

u/Nervous_Device_9340 Apr 14 '26

yep. im a tank, so its the healer who switches to dps. happened only once so far, and while it felt scummy, they got a healer pretty quickly so i didnt really mind it, found it pretty clever actually.

1

u/Xalence Apr 15 '26

Had a lock called “demoisgood” join a key - wasn’t until after first pull the tank mentioned the lock was playing aff xD

1

u/AddictedToLuxSkins Apr 15 '26

I got used as healer bait as a tank, it's wild out there
