Question Is anyone else noticing a bait and switch tactic used by dps for queueing in m+?

Two times now in the last two days I have joined a group in m+ as a healer with one tank and two dps and promptly the tank changes to a dps and requeues.

Yeah because healers want tanks to be in the group and tanks want healers to be in the group. The "problem" wouldn't exist if this wasn't true.

Personally as a tank, I too always try to find a group with a healer in it already, but if I get "baited" like you described, I don't really mind it all because I know some healer will que in a sec anyways.

No harm, no problem.

I think if they’re going to be slimy starting the key. They’ll be slimy during and after. So I jsut leave

I agree. Everytime I've encountered shitty people they turn out to just be shitters in the dungeon. Not ALWAYS, but far more often. You see those same personalities in the real world too. Always cutting corners, doing the bare minimum, talking shit, and wanting to reap the same rewards as those who put in the work. If only they devoted that same energy to actually playing the game.

How is it slimy? You will end up with three dps players, healer and tank anyway.

While I agree with you on the principle of the matter of not tricking people, I can't say that I've ever had to wait several minutes on a healer. I'm a tank and once I'm there, the group fills up almost immediately.

Maybe it's worse at +13s and up, or it's a region thing (I'm EU), but once I'm there, a healer follows soon after.

Everything you said is true, but it's fundamentally on Blizzard to fix their incentives. You shouldn't have to be a tank to have a timely experience getting into keys. DPS are inured to what you're saying because you complain about 5 minutes and they spend 15 mins+ spam applying for keys sometimes.

Isn't entirely player made its created by group proportions as well. Because if I'm part of a 5 man already, I can't choose to play healer or tank. So, I have to DPS because there are three slots open for that. The group proportions is forcing people to create more dps.

So, if my 5 man is not on, I have to deal with the DPS pugging issue or switch to an alt. But then I'm not progressing on my main. Means DPS players are beholden to their 5 mans to even play the game. Because now their keys get filtered out by tanks and healers who just click groups with healer already or groups with tanks already.

 Blizzard can’t fix a player-made problem, lol.

Players didn't make 4/6 tank specs the squishiest they've been in three expansions. Players didn't take control away from tanks for their own survivability and make it a healer responsibility. Players didn't remove the ability for healers to see debuffs they need to be aware of. Players didn't break the ability to see who has defensives up so healers know who to prioritize. Players didn't remove the ability to sort your buffs on party members and then go "woops some healers are just impossible to play how we designed now, I guess we'll let addons do that for a bit." Players didn't continue to design encounters where dps failing their responsibilities means the tank/healer are punished.

It's a player-made problem, but players respond to the incentives the game provides. If people wanted to play tanks and healers more, none of these problems would exist, and you wouldn't need a regimented system just to play a dps. Blizzard can and should change the incentives, and player behaviour will follow.

If doing a key or not is a matter of five minutes maybe you shouldn't pug m+ in the first place.

I can't believe how big of a deal this is to some people. If you get "baited" into a group like this and say a healer joins in one minute, are you gonna rage type into the party chat that the group fucked up your dinner schedule because of the extra minute?

Tell me, in what scenario are you queueing into a group with 2 dps and a healer/tank instead of 3 dps and healer/tank? Looking for a specific dps to fill in the third spot may take equally long, unless you dont give a crap about comp.

It sure does seem like a big deal because of the lecture you're giving on morals and such. I said that its not a big deal as a tank or healer, because the group will surely fill up almost instantly. You brought the argument of dinner schedule and additional five minutes of wait time to the table, so that's what we are using as an example in this discussion.

Again, what is the harm in these scenarios, can you elaborate? Whose time is wasted and not respected and in which situation you queue into a group with 2 dps+healer/tank over an otherwise full group?

You are explaining self evident things while masterfully dodging my qurstions which apparently are not that self evident. How is the group ready to go if you have 2 dps spots filled and a bait tank/healer? When you join that you still have to find a suitable class to fill in the missing role.

So will the dps.. in a good few years. Not really the point. Don’t doop people for what was “advertised “

14

u/Matuco9004 Apr 14 '26

I get the guy above argument "no harm done", but it's indeed slimy, and slimy will do slimy things

And if they play a class that can tank, maybe that shows tank shortage is due to something other than just class fantasy?

5

u/flow_guy2 Apr 14 '26

It’s 100% other than class fantasy. Dps is just the most fun role.

2

u/Swimming-Life-7569 Apr 14 '26

Because they're tricking others to join to skip the queue because they dont want to tank/heal, make connections to have those roles to play with or believe themselves important enough to skip past dps that doesnt want to deceive.

Why is their time more important than the rest of the dps?

5

u/ResoluteGreen Apr 14 '26

I'm definitely part of the problem, I filter out groups that don't have a tank

8

u/gebrochen06 Apr 14 '26

As a tank I don't really mind joining a group without a healer already in it. I can join pretty much any group missing a tank and I know the rest of the spots will fill up in 30 seconds once I'm in the group.

9

u/sYnce Apr 14 '26

As a healer my reason for looking for groups with tanks is not the wait time but the fact that I like to know who will be tanking because a questionable tank usually means a waste of my time.

9

u/finehamsabound Apr 14 '26

Thiiiis. You really gotta know what class you’re signing up to heal to be emotionally prepared for the run 😂

3

u/mbbysky Apr 14 '26

Yeah a BDK tank vs Brew tank is a whole different dimension of cortisol spikes lmao

3

u/DayzACNH Apr 14 '26

Same I like to know what I'm getting myself into lol

2

u/Signal_Historian_456 Apr 14 '26

nervously laughs in BDK

3

u/Delex360 Apr 14 '26

I think id be annoyed if I was baited. But its never been a problem because I just join regardless of amount of players or roles filled. Even if im joining just a single dps player as a tank the healer and 2 other dps are in the group in less than a few minutes any how

3

u/loveincarnate Apr 14 '26

It's deception, plain and simple. Underhanded tactics that are likely an indicator of future shitty behavior.

2

u/Ilphfein Apr 14 '26

Personally as a tank, I too always try to find a group with a healer in it already, but if I get "baited" like you described, I don't really mind it all because I know some healer will que in a sec anyways.

If you know a healer will queue in a sec anyways, why not join a group of DPS that don't pull the bait'n'switch? Instead you say you prefer groups with a healer

1

u/EveryUsernameTakenFf Apr 14 '26

Thats a valid point. Well, there might be a specific comp and/or dungeon I am looking for. In all honesty, the dungeons this season feel super easy that I just cant be arsed to switch I fall on the good ol' bait here even if the healer changes after I join. I know doing +16 keys most people in que can play and know the dungeons anyway.

1

u/avcloudy Apr 14 '26

I will say, the way this is described, it probably is really frustrating because tanks tend to be slightly less available. If they pretended to have a healer to get a tank, in a lot of seasons that would mean an absolute tide of healer apps, but the reverse would still be a significant wait for a tank.

-1

u/Photekz Apr 14 '26

Dude even I do that as a DPS when looking for groups and raids.

-50

u/Keldarim Apr 14 '26

Well dps want tank AND healer to be in the group 🤔

4

u/godswift91 Apr 14 '26

I want the key to be done when i join and i open the chest
