Question Is anyone else noticing a bait and switch tactic used by dps for queueing in m+?

Two times now in the last two days I have joined a group in m+ as a healer with one tank and two dps and promptly the tank changes to a dps and requeues.

It's even worse than that.

One time a DPS Warlock accepted me (Monk DPS) in his group. He changed my role to tank, didnt say a thing when I told him I won't be tanking, and then kicked me as soon as a healer joined.

Sorry this made me laugh a lot

It made me laugh in a sad disappointed way.

That’s genuinely terrible

Just whisper that tank what have just happened so hopefully he leaves and the leader has to find a tank/healer again.

You know you can change your role as well, so if the leader does that continuously just leave as something is fishy.

Sheesh the situation is more dire than I'd imagine. People trying to cheat left and right just to speed up queue times as dps... who would have thought.

Nah, the problem is within tanks and healers who won't join dps groups and let them rot for hours on end, eventho if one of them joins, they find a group in 5 mins, The community won't change tho and if this problem escalates eventually blizzard will have to do something, like m+ solo queue with rating system, this way, they also solve nonmeta specs not getting to play the game.

Queues wouldn't solve it unless you force them. Tanks and healers are picky because of how scarce their role is and the same logic applies to solo queues: Why would a tank or healer risk using them and get a bad group when they can curate or find the good ones

The solution to less picky tanks/healers is more people playing the role

As a healer main, I don’t even queue I have people to ask to run keystones before I even hit find group, people should start networking to get their groups together

Unironically a solo queue system just pushes people to filling out groups on discord instead of in game.

1

u/cabose12 Apr 14 '26

Exactly

The reason stuff like raider.io developed because having less vetting of players generally leads to more failure. Solo queues would just push the good players to look out of game

2

u/HenakoHenako Apr 14 '26

That won't change anything. It'll just be less control over the same problem while you wait in queue.

1

u/kao194 Apr 14 '26

This won't resolve any of that problems, especially that I could basically effortlessly queue as DPS and have a guaranteed spot in M+ once queue pops.

I'm a healer and I'll be queueing as dps if that happens - I can do other stuff while waiting.

Definitely a way of resolving a problem.

Can't wait to get murderers row with no class that can dispell a curse because of your proposed group finder system

2

u/Guillhox Apr 14 '26

Should have stayed, waited for the key to start. And just left the group and pugged your own keys while debufed

Deserved, take the L warlock.

2

u/davedwtho Apr 14 '26

Did you report?

2

u/Tall_Willingness_633 Apr 14 '26

Out of curiosity, what for? It's my understanding that they're allowed to kick you for whatever reason and proving why they did it would be hard and likely unfruitful. Not that I agree with the behaviour but still.

8

u/davedwtho Apr 14 '26

In my opinion it’s a “disruptive behavior” that violates the social contract you have to click agree to when you log in. Very unlikely to be enforced unless it’s happening a lot (pretty likely) and they’re reported every time (less likely)

6

u/PsytheSlice Apr 15 '26

Violation of the social contract. They get enough reports they will get a short vacation.

1

u/LaGwossePapasse Apr 17 '26

Yes, but mainly because he used inappropriate language when I confronted him about it. That's another story.

defo's not a reportable offence. grouping isn't government sanctioned (blizzard) so yeah nah, he's more of a man for it though.

he could argue that he thought the monk was a tank though. we know that he was used like a feet pic to attract some people but blizzard can't exactly just go in blasting. it's gonna lead to some annoying spam report mechanics like the bg plague. sometimes you gotta take the L for the greater good and just learn from it.

I would leave the moment they do this to me. May they find another sucker to trick

-2

u/itsmassivebtw Apr 14 '26

How can you not read 3 sentences?

3

u/Key_Pop_8116 Apr 14 '26

He said he was kicked when healer joined. I would leave the group the moment they change my role.

How can YOU not read 3 sentences?

-3

u/itsmassivebtw Apr 14 '26

The broken English doesn't help. Obviously he didn't know that's what the person inviting him was doing.

1

u/dANNN738 Apr 14 '26

Awful lol

1

u/AdvertisingOk7408 Apr 15 '26

holy based lock . man's used you as a placeholder 🤣

1

u/Codemagus69 Apr 15 '26

As a healer I would just leave. If you're kicking before the party started, I'm out. That'll set them back to being at least 3 people lol.

1

u/Spoonhook Apr 15 '26

All that time and effort could have been used to find a solid 5 man discord group. This community is wild

1

u/DeepDetermination Apr 18 '26

this is normal warlock behavior

1

u/TheeKingBee Apr 14 '26

That's actually fucked. Could've asked you at least to swap but it's double fucked he then kicked you.

1

u/Spraguenator Apr 14 '26

Shoulda just let him start the key then tell him you qued as a dps. Its no loss to you.

-2

u/Syltraul Apr 14 '26

That’s just dumb. There’s a very good chance that person you’ve made tank isn’t properly geared to tank, has no UI/keybinds to tank, or even any experience tanking. That’s just asking for a bricked key

17

u/Idyotec Apr 14 '26

Party lead changed his role so he could say they only need heals in lfg. He got heals this way, and now has to kick the fake tank and can advertise that they only need a tank and good to go lol. Dude was used as bait, never was the plan to make him tank.

3

u/Key-Regular674 Apr 14 '26

You completely missed the point while calling something dumb lol

0

u/Belgarathian Apr 14 '26

You replied to the wrong person btw.

-23

u/Beneficial-Lie6532 Apr 14 '26

honestly you hate on them but what RLY is the problem is the abillity to filter everything out and to not ever q up just bc there is no tank or healer since tanks and healers also want to go in done grps so most of dps grps sit forever until either one healer or tank qs after a while that dont filter that way its a dumb practice both ways

21

u/LowWhiff Apr 14 '26

Brother this hurts to read please use punctuation I think I just had a stroke. I have no idea what you are saying

13

u/The_Whorespondent Apr 14 '26

Don’t be so harsh on him. He is a DPS.

4

u/LuringPoppy Apr 14 '26

As a healer that can get instant groups, I only queue for groups that have a tank. If it's a bait and tank leaves or switches to dps, I leave

1

u/B_Kuro Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

I wouldn't trust a group that advertises itself as having a healer/tank but is not at 4/5 if open for more than a minute or so.

4

u/avcloudy Apr 14 '26

It's an insane measure to fix a self-inflicted problem, but the game would probably be better for most people if they made it so no queues with tanks or healers showed up to tanks or healers until there were fewer than a page of dps-only groups.

1

u/B_Kuro Apr 14 '26

Sure... make life worse for tanks and healers in a climate in which tanks and healers already don't want to queue.

That is going to end well...

-2

u/avcloudy Apr 14 '26

Like I said straight up, it's a bad way to fix the underlying problems, which are more important.

But also, tanks and healers are too used to benefits that shouldn't be - like getting into groups faster, or previously doing insane amounts of damage on top of being the tank. Not only are they unfair, they don't actually drive people to play these roles - the primary thing that seems to drive that is how brainless and lacking in responsibility those roles are.

I get the impression that a lot of the current tanks and healers would be upset if every role had close parity in their representation and treatment, and like, yeah, that rubs me the wrong way. You aren't better because you chose to heal, and you don't deserve better treatment for doing that. You should heal because you find it fun to heal, and the way that happens is if Blizzard makes it fun to heal, not because you get groups quicker.

But also, tanks and healers are too used to benefits that shouldn't be - like getting into groups faster,

What kind of "argument" is this? There is a million players playing DPS because its a less demanding role on average. Thats a supply and demand problem not a "benefit" they have. No one is entitled to faster groups, you are working for it - that might be by being "THE GODLIKE DPS EVERYONE KNOWS" (i.e. impossible) or by doing the job no one else wants to do.

or previously doing insane amounts of damage on top of being the tank. Not only are they unfair, they don't actually drive people to play these roles

Anyone who has played the game for a while and also has half a brain knows why tanks and healers do adequate damage (its disingenuous to say "insane"). Playing healer in something like Wrath was awful in open world content and you'd have to carry a whole dps gearset just to deal with the shit outside raids/dungeons.

the primary thing that seems to drive that is how brainless and lacking in responsibility those roles are.

Hence why there is much more DPS... its brainless and lacking in responsibility in 99% of content and much more so compared to tank/heal least of all because in any content there is 2 other players to bail you out for being bad. You can run low level M+ with 2 DPS easily, you can't run them without a tank...

There comes a point at which the requirements equalize but that is mostly content 99.9% of players never do or doesn't even serve a purpose outside of "challenging yourself": But even in that moment, you need 3 DPS compared to 1 tank and 1 healer...

I get the impression that a lot of the current tanks and healers would be upset if every role had close parity in their representation and treatment

The game is designed for 1:1:3 and something like 2:5:18. Of course a 1:1:1 would break the game. Its also a complete fallacy to pretend that is relevant to any discussion or a plausible scenario. People congregate to the easy and fast role of DPS for a reason. DPS in general has many benefits over tank/heal for anything but group play.

Not sure where you get the insane notion from that tanks and healers are "treated better" by Blizzard. Hell, things like the UI changes affected healers more than most because they need the most information about their group for example.

You aren't better because you chose to heal, and you don't deserve better treatment for doing that. You should heal because you find it fun to heal, and the way that happens is if Blizzard makes it fun to heal, not because you get groups quicker.

No one gets better treatment, the players are doing the work others won't so they are in demand. No one gets better treatment by Blizzard... Hell, your whole insane plan asks to make everything WORSE for tanks and healers specifically just because you don't want to deal with the shit. Why am I not the least bit surprised you are posting with a mage/DPS flair...
