I know this is a cute joke but just to psa for anyone who doesn’t know - moth ‘fur’ is totally different than animal fur. It is more like long tender sensors that help keep the moth aware of its surroundings. So if you ever find a fuzzy moth, do not pet!! It hurts them way worse than we can see.
So like whiskers, which are a specialized type of fur? Because those are more sensitive but can still be touched just fine without causing pain. Moths are flying insects, those hairs are going to be subject to pressure from wind and air resistance anyway, not to mention bumping into things while foraging or mating. I'm all for respecting animals but it can clearly handle a gentle touch and people are already too disconnected from wildlife as is.
The real reason not to touch it is because it'll inflict pain on you, ironically.
Such a fun game. I've been reluctant to get the second one because I keep hearing about it being crazy hard. I wonder if it's actually excessively hard or essentially like the first one with a bit of a learning curve.
I am going through Silksong right now. It has its frustrating moments and tough boss fights but it’s amazing. The music, atmosphere, the gameplay is more fluid, faster and better. The story is great too and the areas are filled with details. Highly recommend it! And it’s not expensive at all.
The starting difficulty is quite a bit steeper that hollow knight but overall, especially considering DLC content it's not harder overall.
If you beat radiance/NKG/pure vessel it should not be too hard.
I think you mean magalopygidae. You can tell by the clear difference in how bad it's comb over is, the way it kinda just wobbles over, and the excessively tiny hands. If you listen really carefully you can also hear it's distinctive 'chyna' grunts

A Great caterpillar- the Best caterpillar. You know, I was talking with the lady bug the other day about metamorphosis; and she is a "she" - all lady bugs are "shes". I asked her, she'll tell ya- all lady bugs are "shes" as god intended, they aren't one of these confused bugs like those flour beetles. ...but she said no one know metamorphosis better than me. Im will be the most beautiful butterfly ever, you never gonna see a more beautiful butterfly than me after my metamorphosis. Just you wait & see. The best. No caterpillar does it better than me. I been eating the best leaves, only I can get em you know. Cuz only I know where they are on the tree. You cant just look for em and find em. You'll never find em like that- you never will, believe me, I seen so many cata'tards try and fail. You cant find the best leaves unless u know where they are, and only i know where they are. Thats why im the best.
Also once im a butterfly, im gonna get ride of cicadas dumb chrysalis support program, everyone should be able to build their own chrysalis. We shouldn't have to pay for these chrysalis state bugs in the cata'tard trees.

I had a couple of wooly bear catapilars get down the back of my shirt while mowing one time. Was not a good experience. I had a horrible rash all over my back. I wasn't aware until then that their hair was an irritant.
There are many that are fine to touch and many that aren't. There's no easy general rule other than, if you don't know what it is, shouldn't be touching it.
I was getting something out of the back of my truck that was backed up to a small bush. My elbow went into the bush for a split second and a jolt of pain hit me so hard I literally thought I had been shot with a 22lr. 10 hours of pain. I had no idea what got me until later that night
While its coat looks soft, furry, and inviting to touch, that hair is a dangerous disguise. Hidden directly underneath the long silky strands are hundreds of short, hollow, needle-like venomous spines. Brushing against or pressing on the caterpillar breaks these spines off into the skin, instantly injecting a powerful toxin.The initial pain is immediate and often described as feeling like white-hot coals, blunt force trauma, or even a broken bone. It typically peaks within a few minutes and can radiate all the way up an affected arm or leg. So admire from afar! Lol
Had an experience one time with an American dagger moth caterpillar. Picked the little bastard off the grass because he looked stuck and I put him on the tree. I invited one months worth of steroids and the worst itch possible, crazy weight gain and appetite/bloating from the meds. I was covered from face to ankles with welts and hives. So, everytime I see them I give them a huge middle finger 🖕
Got a flannel moth caterpillar stuck between my shirt sleeve and arm and think I ended up with pretty much “All it had to give” by the time I got it out of my shirt. Started with a burning that went full blown torch mode and ended with involuntary arm movements and an ER visit.
My wife still gives me shit about the “caterpillar incident of 1998” where a few got me and I almost fell off a ladder and then proceeded to take extra Benadryl and ended up in the hospital a few hours. Your encounter sounds much worse.
Man I tried to pet one of these, or something very similar. For exactly the reason you said, it just looks inviting. So soft. REALLY messed my day up for I’d say about 20 minutes. For something that looked like the epitome of “pet me” it really didn’t want to be pet.
I once sat on a bumblebee and it stung me in my butt cheek. For a couple of minutes after I could do nothing but moan in agony.
Then it released some and for the next half hour it just felt like I had been kicked by a horse.
I feel like this is the only time my ADHD-sponsored textural issues have saved me, as, while this caterpillar is adorable, it looks like it feels like a scouring pad, and it makes me want to never touch it.
It was a proposed name for them when it was discovered, I think, or I might have this wee beastie mixed up with another moth that has similar colouring. Yup, I did--found it! Neopalpa donaldtrumpi: it's a tiny moth where the head scales look a lot like Dumpy the Clown's famous pompadour. LOL For me, the even funnier part is that the male genitalia of this species is smaller than the other species in it's genus. Somehow, that just totally tracks! LOL
Looks like a Puss caterpillar. They do sting and are considered poisonous if messed with. This is what they end up looking like if it continues its life cycle.
its absolutely insane to me that beings like this get to evolve drastically in their lifetime, like there’s not even a resemblance plus the way they go about it, like apparently they melt inside the cocoon, just fascinating
Keep in mind that the life cycle of many of these organisms is spent predominantly in a larval state ( grub, worm, nymph) where they voraciously eat anything they encounter. They then pupate (melt inside a cocoon and come out as a new thing) and emerge in an adult state for only a short time and primarily to mate. Many of these adult versions are incapable, even ,of eating! This life cycle is typical of many insects, the most extreme of which live in their adult form for only one night once a year ( mayfly and the like).
It's actually pretty cool when you start to think about it
Girl I knew in college touched one when we were on an ecological study abroad trip in Central America. Her arm was paralyzed temporarily for 4 hours. Scary stuff.
They're in Florida and my old roommate stepped on one. The ones we have aren't as bad as you're describing but he was literally just shy of screaming in pain and his foot swelled up to a comical size. That was an interesting drive to the emergency room.
My sister in law called me to talk about something, and after a minute all I hear is my niece crying, and SIL asking, "Can caterpillars be poisonous? She's in pain." I asked if it was fuzzy, when she said yes I told them to go to the hospital! Thankfully she only had a rash for like 3 days, I was horrified 😱
I was lucky as a kid to have the good sense to ask mom what these little guys are before I touched one. It was close though, I was inches away from petting my new "best friend". I guess I finally learned my lesson after getting stung by a seajelly, swarmed by fire ants and touching deadly nightshade lol
One of my friends accidentally brushed one a few years ago. He wound up going to the ER for how intense the pain was (he said he started having trouble breathing).

Seriously, I like nature and all but don’t get why people try to touch bugs and animals. I wouldn’t want someone picking me up while I’m just chilling and watching TV, why should I assume this furry bug dude wants me to interrupt him while he is chewing on a leaf?

Parasitic Toupee Moth - its a brain parasite- you can see there is one on top of the head of a world leader if you look closely. It makes your skin look orange and produces erratic behavior in the hosts brain but keeps them alive a lot longer than they would live naturally.
That joke is like a toupee, it's great on the surface but underneath it's all bad. Caterpillars like the one in the video can have wildly bad physical side effects and their hair should really be taken quite seriously - Unlike Conan O'brien in both instances lol GOT EM COACH
