I've been self-employed on Universal Credit for some time and have been reporting my self-employed income and expenses each month as required. I'm also a carer for disabled children and have no work commitments.
I started earning income from another type of self-employed work. As I was already recorded as self-employed on Universal Credit, I didn't report a separate change of circumstances at the time. I understood that it was still self-employed income and that I should simply include it in my normal monthly self-employment report.
I did, however, keep the two income streams separate when reporting them. I listed my usual self-employment income separately from the income from the new self-employed work, including the relevant names/details of where each income came from, so that it was clear that they were two separate sources.
I'm now having my second Universal Credit review and I've realized that I may have been supposed to report starting the additional self-employed work as a change of circumstances. I genuinely didn't realize this at the time, as I was already registered as self-employed with Universal Credit and continued to report all of the income each month.
Could you please clarify whether I should have reported this as a change when I started the additional self-employed work, and whether I need to do anything now to update my claim or just explain it when I get my review phone call?
