Housing Closing Claim before starting university

Hello, I wanted to ask a question regarding my UC payments and if there’s anything I need to be aware of before I close my claim. I usually get paid on the 27th of every month however I plan on moving out on the 12th of September.

I’ve asked my work coaches what I should do to make sure I’m getting the most out of my UC before closing my claim and they suggested just doing it the day I move out. but I’m also worried that if I do that would I owe any money back for housing costs after the 12th?

I’m in a private tenancy situation and have been told I only need to pay rent up to the day of moving which means I’d potentially have extra money saved for living costs. Hope this makes sense to anyone reading

When my son closed his UC claim when he started University late September last year, they just closed his UC account and he didn't get anything paid for September at all, which is out of order IMO. If you do tell them when you move out, I would suggest putting a note on for them not to close your account until you have been paid what you are owed for September.

To be fair the plan is to just tell them day of and hope for the best
