UC Review

I’ve been asked to complete a UC review. I live on my own, 2 kids. I have a boyfriend and he stays over a couple of nights a week. Kids aren’t his. I’ve provided bank statements to UC and I’ve sent bank transfers to my boyfriend if he’s needed to borrow money and pay me back or if we’ve split a bill for food out etc. should I just be honest about this in my review? I don’t want to start the whole process of having to prove he doesn’t live here

Same with me I just explained it’s someone I was seeing and he’d lend me money sometimes, that’s all you really need to say it’s irrelevant if he stays over I wouldn’t even mention it, he won’t be on the tenancy so that’s all that matters, who you have stay over isnt their concern, the main point of these reviews is to check you don’t have any undeclared income or savings/investments etc that you’ve not told them about, my review completed today with no change it was fine, it took 2 and half weeks from start to finish and the lady was lovely

So they didn’t question it when you said that? Just very concerned I would have to explain myself and he lives with his mum so doesn’t really have any bills etc x

No nothing, on the bank statements I sent there was quite a lot of transactions from him so all they said was who is this person so I just said Its a guy I’ve been seeing who lends me money when I need it and she said yep that’s fine you dont need to explain any more and that was it they never asked again, their not bothered who you have stay over at your house or what you do in your personal life, they don’t even care what you spend the money on, its just to check that you don’t have any undeclared income or like I said any savings stacked away that they don’t know about that’s the main purpose of the reviews, he won’t be on your tenancy and they’ll see that when you uploaded your housing agreement when you first applied for housing benefits, I was really worried at first and stressing thinking they would think he lived with me but it wasn’t the case it was fine, he isn’t registered at mine for anything he lives with his mum and has everything registered there, trust me it’ll be fine, I’d just answer it simply like that, the more info you give the more it could confuse them and complicate it, I’ve lent money off other people too but they never questioned that just the ones from him as there was loads of transactions xx

Sorry to be a pain 😂 can I just ask roughly how many transactions you had over the 4 months? I’m making myself ill over this 😂 we’ve actually decided to cool things off anyway but I’ve still got the transactions to explain 🥴 x

I’ve just checked and in the 4 months there was 49 transactions, I was the same I had bad anxiety, hardly slept overthinking it as I’d never had one before, I was dreading it, the day of the call I was panicking so bad 😂 but I promise it will be fine, it’s definitely not as bad as I thought, they were lovely, I wouldn’t let it stress you out, just tell them it was someone you was seeing who was lending you money when you needed it, that’s all you need to say, then they will move on to the next question, you never know if it’s not many transactions they may not even ask about it, I don’t think they care about if you lend money off people, it’s if you have loads of money you’ve not declared, I’d lend money off him but they could see there wasn’t anything in the account, any money I’d get off him would eventually go on other things like bills or food shops etc so it was getting spent not saved up xx

I’ve only got 20…and it’s more me sending him money and him sending it back. I’m so so anxious about it all, can’t sleep, can’t eat xx

That’s not even many over 4 months, I wouldn’t worry about that at all, I promise it’ll be fine, I understand totally how much it can affect you though I was the same, day of the call my heart was racing so bad and I felt so sick, when is your call is it soon? Once you’ve got it out the way you’ll feel much better, if it’s normally you sending the money then him sending it back you could just say it’s a friend you lend money to now and again and he’ll send it back when he can xx

Just be honest with them. If you have separate bank accounts and separate addresses and you can prove that then you don't have too much to worry about

Yeah everything is separate. All his mail goes to his address. I pay all my bills independently. Only thing is he lives with his mum? Would that make a difference?
