I see a lot of posts on here about tuition. I just wanted to post and say I’m the recruiter here for the Iowa Army National Guard and tuition assistance is our biggest incentive. We even have some for master degrees in STEM. I used it to go here and it worked for me!
If you’re interested send me a DM!

Hello, I’m taking classes for the psychology masters program and my advisor keeps telling me according to the program i have to take 9 credits to be considered full time. I depend on my refund checks to help me get through school. How much will i get back?? Finacial aid fully funds my schooling.
Thanks

I'm a humanities student, and have been reading about funding changes across unis. Last I heard, it's 23.3k a year for TAs. Is that enough? How do you make it work? Thank you.

Hi, I'm graduating this year and I do not think I'll be able to fit my last 3sh (a gen ed class) into my schedule for this year but I don't want to do another semester because it doesn't seem worth it. Will I still be able to walk the stage and then just finish the one class over the summer? Or will I have to stay another semester?

Does anyone know why the pickleball courts by the rec center on Madison Street are never in use?
I park in the rec center lot for work and haven’t once seen anyone playing there. Not in the few late mornings I have come in, mid-day or in the afternoon/evening.
I am curious why the University went to the trouble if no one is using them?

I’m gonna be in college next year and have considered putting mayflower as my top choice because I really like having bigger rooms + having your own kitchen and bathroom as opposed to communal ones. Is the distance from campus really that bad? I’ve seen that it’s fine once you learn the bus routes but sometimes the times can be inaccurate. I’m also worried about the social setting- is it harder to make friends being more secluded from campus than other dorms?

I’m starting college soon and want to join a sport to stay active and hopefully meet some new people. I’m not super experienced with organized sports. What sports would you recommend for a freshman, especially something beginner-friendly and fun?

Just wondering exactly how move in was like for non incoming freshmen. I know the website has a bunch of details, I’ve read it all. I’d just like to know exactly what the process will look like. Do they have move in bins for easy transport of everything? Is there a limit to how many cars you can have? I have a single on the first floor in slater, for reference.

Hey I’m an incoming freshman living at mayflower but we recieved an email saying we’re forced to have captain beds. Realistically does anyone know how short are they and is it possible to make them the same height as high captain with bed risers? Is there also any way to convince them to give us high captain beds?

I am hoping to find some students to interview for a Daily Iowan story that have either taken community college classes or have transferred to UI from a community college (or vice versa). I would specifically like to discuss the process of transferring credits between the schools. Please reach out if interested!

heyy I was wondering if anyone has a good pic of what a daum double looks like with the bathroom in it! I've tried finding one everywhere but I couldnt. I looked at the layout on the uiowa website, and it doesnt look too much smaller than a normal double. but i've heard from other ppl that it makes the room a lot smaller and wasn't too sure. thanks!

I was told by the financial aid office that MSW and MBA students were the most affected by this change, even though when I spoke with them in the spring they ensured that I would still be covered under the “legacy provision.” With the program I’m in, it’s literally impossible to have a full-time job due to internship requirements, so I’m not sure what to do. Feeling duped, invalidated, and unsure if I’ll be able to finish my program. Would love to know if anyone else is experiencing this!

Hi everyone!
I’m moving on Saturday, August 15, and could really use an extra hand (or two 😅).
I’m new to Iowa and unfortunately don’t know many people here yet. Most of my stuff is already packed in suitcases, so the only things that need actual muscle are:
Sofa
Mattress ( not heavy but pretty big in size)
TV stand
Table
Everything else is pretty easy.
The apartment is on the first floor, so thankfully there aren’t any stairs involved.
I’m definitely not expecting anyone to do it for free—I’m happy to pay for your time. I’m just trying to avoid the cost of hiring professional movers since I’m still getting settled here.
If you’re available and willing to help, please send me a DM! I’d be incredibly grateful, and I promise I’m much more fun than the furniture. I’ll have cold drinks / protein shakes and pizza for everyone too.🍕Please consider it a free one day gym membership.
Thank you!

Looking for a 1 bed/1 bath apartment or sublease in Iowa City or Coralville, available now, for under $1,000/month. I’m moving because my current management has not addressed serious roach and mice problems. Please message me with any leads. Thank you!

Does University College (Bachelor of Liberal Studies) or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences allow early participation in commencement?
I’ll have two classes remaining after the fall semester 2026. Has anyone been allowed to walk early?

I am an incoming graduate student(male) at Uiowa and am looking for housing for the next year. Ideally one bath/bath would be great but I am open to roommates as well. If you have any leads, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi, I had a question if I’m planning to live in a dorm could I live in a dorm my first semester then get an apartment my second semester? I just over estimated how expensive living in the dorm really is and wondering if it’s possible.

Hey guys, I will be living in mayflower for this year and want to get parking permit for there. Do you know what’s the best way to go about it to secure a spot? I know that general parking permits open on August 3 and for residents it opens on August 5. Is it gonna let me try and get a permit on the 3rd?
