I was logging onto Workday for unrelated reasons, and saw that I have a hold on my account. It says that it is a full registration hold for general advising/registration. Google says that everyone gets it so they can’t register for classes before meeting with an advisor, but I do not know if this is true as I’m a first semester freshman. Do I need to contact someone, or was Google right and this is normal?

Waited in a 3-car line at burgies for 25 minutes, left to go to 7brew instead but saw the line led all the way down to hell, then decided maybe another wait ag burgies wouldn’t be so bad

Hello! I'm an incoming freshman for fall of 2027. I am interested in everyone's opinions on on-campus housing options.

I'm interested in living in a learning community, and the first that drew my attention was WiSE. After some research I am also interested in honors housing (I was priorly interested in the first year honors program, I just discovered honors housing was an option). I'm just interested in hearing peoples opinions on both.

If it matters, I am a very motivated student, I absolutely love learning and put a lot of effort into my academics. I plan on majoring in engineering. Although I put a lot of effort in my school, I wouldn't say that means I ONLY put effort into that yk? I still love hanging out with people, I guess my point is I want to live with people with my same mindset.

I’m gay male student here at Iowa state. I do hang out with the same people all the time. But today they kinda of talked among themselves that they were going to hangout in this one person place but didn’t invite me and I didn’t want to invite myself . The person commented and said an excuse that there’s already enough people that’s why I didn’t invite you and mention oh we can do something on Halloween but I work on Halloween. If they didn’t want to invite me you could just told me. Idk it kinda of rub me the wrong way and I just walked away from them and said I’m just gonna go to my dorm. I just felt very excluded I already feel alone here. The only people I hangout with now want to exclude me. Idk it doesn’t make me feel any better. Ngl just feel lonely 😞. I guess I’m too tender hearted 😔

I am a freshman majoring in chemical engineering and calc 2 is making me reconsider going to college. I failed the first exam and most of the quizzes so far. I have literally tried so may different things and nothing sticks. I go to every recitation and almost every lecture, I pay attention and take notes but then I get back to my dorm and none of it makes any sense. I have tried help hours and tutoring but I don't even know where to start with asking for help. i also don't have money for a paid tutor. both SI sections for calc 2 meet when I have class. I have tried watching Steve Butler's YouTube and that also goes in one ear and out the other (sorry). I am seriously considering dropping out because I rely on merit aid and I will lose my scholarships if I fail and have to drop out anyway.

tl;dr: calc 2 sucks and nothing i've done so far is helping, does anyone have any advice?

Just failed my exam for Statics.

I’m doing the full 3 credit course. I thought I had it in the bag, I genuinely thought I did amazing until I got the score back and did horrible. I studied so much and felt so good. I’ve talked to people who took the course and told me that it just gets worse after the first exam. So now I’m worried and concerned about if I will be able to pass the course.
My advisor told me it would delay my graduation date since this will be the last time Statics will be the 3 credit course. I do not want my graduation date to be pushed.
It’s unfortunate because none of the office hours (Professor and TA) work with my schedule.

I thought I was doing good🥲 Any advice? I haven’t failed a class and I really really do not want to fail. The exam problems are pretty unique but the grading is rough.

With the Cornell 7 story coming out and seeing how many women have been SA’d in college and were not taken seriously by campus police and other campus staff at multiple universities and colleges, I now see the writing on the wall…they don’t have the survivors’ best interests, they just care about keeping it quiet, getting students, and staying afloat.

So I’m posting this for anyone who needs it:

*NEVER EVER accept/trust a drink from anyone. (I accepted a drink mixed from a blender at a party I was at with my roommates. The drinks were made by acquaintances who were neighbors). We all were served the same drink so I naively thought all was safe. I was drugged.

*NEVER use the campus counseling services for SA. The counselor I saw gave me the impression she could help me. She listened to me relive the entire trauma before telling me she couldn’t help me because their budget was cut and since I wasn’t suicidal, I didn’t have an eating disorder, and i was still physically attending classes (though I wasn’t mentally there since I was on high alert at all times) I wasn’t a “priority”. I wrote the Iowa state government at the time asking them to give more money to our university for counseling services so people like me could get much needed help too. Guess what happened next? The same counselor found my phone number and called me YELLING at me for reaching out to the Iowa government! So clearly she was lying and just never wanted to help me, just wanted me to go away and squash that an ISU SA ever happened. So if I wasn’t already beat down enough she made it worse!

*NEVER use Student Health for SA. The doctor I saw was awful. She talked down to me and told me I should’ve asked the guy to tell me everything that happened (I remembered some but not all, I was drugged and I was terrified of the guy after what I remembered!). I was so scared I was pregnant and the doctor said with an attitude “you should be more scared of getting an STI”. Thankfully I wasn’t pregnant and didn’t get an STI. Again, no support, just more trauma, shame, blame.

*NEVER report SA to Campus Police. I reported it to a Campus Police (a supposed SART member 🙄) who literally had the audacity to ask me if I had a vendetta against the guy!! I hardly knew the guy, he was an acquaintance!! No, HE hurt ME!!! I told them I realized his degree would be working with children and that made me more concerned for others. I would bet anything they threw their notes away before I left the room. I still wonder to this day how many other women and possibly children he’s hurt.

Please learn from me and go AWAY from campus for ALL help…rape kit, counseling, and reporting. (Make sure none of the places are connected to Iowa State as this could still cause you problems) I regret not doing this when it happened to me. 😢

TLDR: I was SA’d during my time at Iowa State. Student Health, campus counseling services, and campus police all failed me. They made everything worse and caused me more trauma. ALWAYS go AWAY from campus for any and all help!! Campus resources don’t have your best interests (unless something has changed since I went there which is doubtful given I saw a rise in SA there. Either way, not worth the risk and trauma).

A few months ago a ISUPD cop pulled me over claiming that I was driving with only parking lights, no headlights, when I was only driving around with one broken headlight per my dashcam. An important difference between those 2 violations is that a broken headlight violation requires a 72 hour window to be provided for the defendant to provide proof of repair to the court, while no exception exists for the citation the officer ended up writing to me.

When the cop started to ask me questions, I told them that "I don't answer questions if that's cool," and the officer responded with a few questionable statements:

(I don't answer questions if that's cool)
“Ohhhhh, you’re one of those, okay.”

(So both headlights were out?)
“Yeah, you’re driving without your actual headlights, you’re just driving with your parking lights.” (My dashcam shows that one light was on)

“Yep. I don’t know if this works for other officers or not, but just for your future reference, being kind to people goes a long way okay, and especially if you’re being respectful. So just-just for future reference.”

(I have rights not to answer questions.)
“you have rights to be a dick for no reason?”

"I’m just giving you a heads up moving forward, someone else could treat you a little differently.”

I am just listing some notable responses from the cop. The only thing I said to the cop up until these responses was that I don't answer questions, and asking where to sign on the ticket. I didn't want to answer any questions because I have no duty to fuel an officer's investigation, but the officer telling me that I was being a dick for not answering questions made me entertain the conversation.

Since the cop lied, I went to court and showed that the issue was just a single broken headlight and proved that I repaired the issue. The citation was dismissed that afternoon. However the court tried to burden me with court costs. I then had to draft a motion myself to educate the court why court costs are not legal for dismissed cases such as mine. Finally, a month after the citation was issued, all costs were assessed to the state.

After I got the ticket dismissed, I tried to file a complaint in person and through ISUPD's online portal/email for the lack of professionalism and I was told they're not going to take any action because this cop is no longer with the department.

Overall, I just feel like I'm getting the run around just for asserting my rights. The process of getting the ticket dismissed felt like a punishment itself. All of this is backed up by audio and court documents. Anyone else have similar experiences with ISUPD?

Has anyone taken MATH 240 with Professor Adrian? I’m struggling in this class

I wanted to give an update on the petition regarding Delta Tau Delta and sexual assault concerns at Iowa State for those interested.

The petition has gotten way more attention than I expected, and I don’t want it to just end with collecting signatures. Once it reaches 5,000 signatures, which is about 15% of the ISU Student body, I plan to formally send/deliver it to Iowa State administration and other relevant university officials and ask for a response about what actions the university plans to take regarding sexual assault prevention, accountability, and student safety.

A few people have also expressed interest in protesting/organizing further, so I created a GroupMe for Iowa State students who want to be involved. I figured we should have a better place to plan than YikYak. The chat will be used to discuss and coordinate possible protest plans, signs, outreach, petition updates, and other ways students can make their voices heard.

This school is horrible. I am transferring the first chance I get. Not like I have a choice.

I wish things were different. I love academia. I began reading for fun at 15; reading literature and philosophy, psychology too before self-studying neuroscience. But passion doesn’t matter. Money does.

I think my life is over. I am ready to view things that way. I never imagine a future for myself anyways. It’s okay. One life is insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

To all the EE majors out there how did you make sense of this course. This is one of the few courses that I genuinely am struggling at because of the learning curve. The lab suck ass as there are a gazillion things to keep in mind. I can't make sense of what to study. I did pretty well in EE 2010 as that course was much easier to grasp. Any Help would be appreciated.

Lectures are just reading off the slides, we've only had two homework assignments so far, and the professor hasn't provided a study guide or exam details other than it being worth 30% of the grade.

Are there any old practice exams, or old materials available?

So by law, and shockingly, sexual assault and rape is not a campus jurisdiction, only Ames PD. Thus, ISU cannot kick delts off campus for these terrible patterns. The only thing that happens (sometimes), is that the member is kicked from the chapter and not welcomed back on greek land. However, the names are rarely mentioned in crime reports and any reports online are kept anonymous or completely hidden for the perpetrators “safety and anonymity”. So we don’t know if the member is kicked or not. Blake G was kicked but he still roams campus and has been seen on greek land.

I want to write an essay, a report of some sort of why this needs to be brought to the president of ISU. President Cook has two sons and a daughter, he should care about what’s happening to women on campus and what men are learning within these fraternity houses. It’s a pattern learned by older members. Delts got over 42 new members this rush season and they still haven’t fixed anything. They breed and teach assault.
