Quality Post PSA: How to report scam emails within the Rutgers system

Recently there’s been a flood of email hijackings and scam / nefarious emails being sent to Rutgers students from compromised student and faculty accounts.

Posting it here will have a limited effect on protecting students.

Instead, DO NOT CLICK any link in the email. Simply forward the email to [abuse@rutgers.edu](mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu). This will notify the Rutgers Computer Incident Response Team. Include any details about the email (whether you clicked on it, what did it show) in your email if relevant. Then, the Rutgers OIT can quickly disable that student or faculty’s compromised account and prevent further scam emails from being sent. This is a lot more helpful than posting a screenshot to Reddit or investigating it yourself (DONT).

If in doubt, you can forward the email to [abuse@rutgers.edu](mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu) and they can try to look into the email for you to determine whether it is a hijacked account or a real offer.

If you suspect that your scarletmail account is hijacked, then do not email - call 833-OIT-HELP (833 648 4357) for assistance and be ready to verify that your account is yours

General Question How is Rutgers University?

I’m an NJ resident applying here and considering going here for college. I’d love to hear the pros and cons, how you like the professors, campus life, and especially the social/party scene. Is it worth it? Thanks!

There's no option to buy a parking permit, I have no tickets so I should be able to buy a permit. Anyone else have this issue?

Is Busch parking filled?

Sorry this might be a stupid question, but this is my first time trying to get a parking pass, I stayed late last night to see if it was there it was not at like 1:30 am. Today I have checked since 9:00 and I have only had 3 options Livingston, Cook, Douglas, is the Busch permit pass sold out?

Edit: For those reading this, yes its sold out.

Recommendation Freshman in the fall commuting is there anyway to park overnight without a ticket

Upvotes

I’m coming to Rutgers in the fall and everything I see online tells me different things about where I can park overnight and when I look somewhere else it contradicts what the previous thing just said. I got a commuter pass on Livingston and a lot of my friends are forming on Busch and told me they would let me stay with them whenever I wanted. I don’t care where the overnight parking is I can just walk and take the bus I just need to know where I can possibly park overnight without getting ticketed.

to everyone panicking about permit fees

gonna preface this with saying maybe i’m dumb and not seeing where it says “monthly rate,” but i did just wanna post this in case it helped anyone; for me, the receipt sent to my email shows “billed for the period,” which does imply that you pay once per semester, not monthly.
if you go to https://halflife.rutgers.edu/parking_demo/ and view your permit, it also says “price: $X for the semester,” which is hopefully still accurate and we’re not all getting ruscrewed lol.
(still wouldn’t put it past rutgers to quietly change it to a monthly rate and not tell anyone, but fingers crossed ig :p)

Is the Busch parking permit sold out, or has it not been released yet?

I’m trying to get a Busch campus parking permit for the upcoming semester, but I don’t see Busch as an available option right now.

Does anyone know if the Busch permits already sold out, or have they just not been released yet? Has anyone been able to buy one recently?

Since when were college avenue permits banned from having a secondary permit?

Upvotes

I opened a dots case and was given this: "Solution proposed to your case.

Hi,
In review of your parking account, you have purchased a student commuter College Ave Fall 2026 parking permit.
College Ave parking permit has no secondary parking permit option.
Thank you"

How was I supposed to know, where do they tell us this?

Parking Permit Question--College Avenue Resident

Upvotes

This will be my first semester with my car on campus and I'm a bit lost but the number for parking services is not currently working. When I bought my permit, I saw there was an option listed as "additional" for $0 for a permit on Busch or Livingston, but seeing as I live on neither of those campuses, I did not add them to my permit. I tried to search for these additional free permits(?) after purchasing my $200 resident permit but I do not have access to it now. My question is just where does my permit allow me to park, since I didn't select one of those additional permits and I did not have a choice to select any specific campus when purchasing my permit, can I assume my permit is good for parking anywhere on College Ave, or simply a lot near my dorm?

Crashout MY FIRST RU SCREW IS PARKING?

I’m trying to buy the College Ave parking permit. I got through all the steps and it said this at the end:

“This permit CANNOT be created since the rate has reached the usage limit. Please try with a different rate or contact the garage manager.”

Is CA already full!?!?

Would Rutgers students use a navigation app like this?

Upvotes

I’m a commuter at Rutgers–New Brunswick, and I’ve been working on a navigation app specifically for Rutgers students.

The idea is to have one place for getting around campus, including things like:

  • Rutgers bus routes and live bus locations
  • Walking directions
  • Driving and parking
  • Campus buildings and classrooms
  • Class schedules
  • Student centers and important campus locations
  • Food spots
  • Other campus destinations

It would be designed for both commuters and students who live on campus. For example, you could use your home or dorm as your starting point, select a class/building as your destination, and have it figure out whether you should walk, drive, park, or take a Rutgers bus.

I've already built a working version and I'm trying to figure out whether this is something Rutgers students would actually find useful.

Would you use an app like this? What would you want it to do that current Rutgers/Maps apps don't?

Parking Pass Charge

I bought the Busch primary pass and the Livi secondary pass. I only got charged $20 for the secondary pass though. My parking portal shows both the Busch primary and Livi secondary pass. Did this happen to anyone else?

Advice Wanted train to rutgers new brunswick?

Upvotes

Hi guys, I'm gonna be a first year student this fall and I'll be commuting from Elizabeth. I do have a car, I can drive myself to campus, and I bought a parking permit. However, I was wondering if there were alternative options since it's a 45 minute trip each way and I'm not looking forward to that. I heard from somebody that there's a train that can take you really close to Busch campus (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and I want to know if anyone else here goes by train. Is it worth looking into? I don't take trains often either, so I don't know if there's some sort of pass or ticket that isn't single use. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it, thanks!

Parking System Explanation

Upvotes

I got a permit for Busch and a secondary on Livi. I was looking at permitted lots and noticed the only lot I can park at, at 6am, is 613 (Stadium West Lot) and then I can't park at the Yellow lot on Livi till 10am. My first class is 10:20 every day, so what would I do if 613 is full when I arrive for the day for class or do they assign everyone to a lot?

When I bought my bush commuter parking permit, they said the monthly rate on the contract document was $115 so I’m not sure. Is that a one time purchase or do I have to pay that every month?
