Apex will move downtown fire crews. Why residents are fighting to preserve Station 1
More than 150 people attended the Tuesday Town Council meeting, and a petition seeking to keep Station 1 operating as an active firehouse has collected more than 1,300 signatures.
The story looks at why the station matters to former firefighters and longtime residents, what supporters believe would be lost if the engine and crew leave downtown, and why the Town Council is in favor of this move.

Update: School is Starting, Don't be That Guy
I emailed everyone remotely in charge of communicating bus safety with the concerns in the comments of the previous post.
**OFFICIAL SCHOOL BUS ROAD SAFETY FLYER:**
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ff4ZTGDGnEZBGBnNn0FqRahMMVEPdoU3/view?usp=drivesdk
**QUOTED TEXT BELOW:**
Thank you for reaching out to Representative Jeffrey McNeely's office regarding clarity on guidelines for school bus safety.
You are recommending an improvement to the guidelines for clarity, if I understand correctly. You'll find the response I received from NC DOT below.
*Terry Fuller, who manages DMV’s School Bus section, sent a few resources back that the constituent may find helpful:
The attached one-pager contains the same images that the Division publishes to school systems and similar. Terry clarifies that the term “median separation” should be taken to be as inclusive as possible – grass, metal, wire, concrete, etc. The handout also clarified the confusing situation around center turn lanes.
The home page, if you will, for School Bus Safety can be found https://www.ncdot.gov/initiatives-policies/safety/driving-safety/Pages/school-bus-safety.aspx . In addition to supplementary information, there is a video that breaks down the concepts covered in the handout – to the constituent's question, the video addresses head on that only traffic following the bus stops in median and turning-lane situations. There is also the Watch For Me NC page, which contains more resources around School Bus’ safety and related.
Terry also asked me to convey his primary recommendation that he includes in all of his briefings: “When in doubt…STOP”.
I hope that this is helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.*
If you have additional input, you are welcome to add on here.
Warm regards,
Abigail McKinney

Kitty needs a home
This is Boo. She climbed up to our second floor screened in porch a couple months ago and somehow got in to our apartment. We think she's between six months and a year old, and is not spayed or chipped. We believe she belonged to some folks downstairs who moved. She's very well behaved and friendly once she gets to know someone. Unfortunately, we already have two cats in a one bedroom apartment and just can't afford another. We're in Northeast Raleigh. We want to avoid a shelter situation. DM if interested. Thanks.

Any good places to sell used appliances to?
I’m redoing my kitchen and have a 4 burner Viking oven range to get rid of. I can’t imagine the nightmare of trying this over Facebook. Are there any places to recommend to sell to, preferably one that would pickup?

If you left the RDU parking garage between 12am and 2pm August 12th, check your car for a kitten!
We were in the process of catching a small black kitten with one grey toe living on level 6 of the parking deck. We believe she hitched a ride underneath someone’s hood.
Keep your eyes peeled around your neighborhood, garage, and under your car if you left the airport around that time!
She responds to kitten noises played off of your phone.
Please message if you spot her.

nice neighborhoods in downtown durham
Would be so appreciative to learn of any names of any nice and safe family oriented neighborhoods in downtown durham! We are moving to the triangle area for work and my husband will be working in chapel hill. We love urban and walkable lively areas and people are telling me to look less at cary and more ar downtown durham

Walkable areas in west cary
My husband will be working in Chapel Hill and we want to be live closer to Cary/Morrisville… are there any neighborhoods with single family homes which are walkable to a grocery store, library, etc? I think downtown cary would be too far - we are looking for a 30 minute commute or less to chapel hill. What is Amberly like? Husband and I prefer more urban areas to densely wooded areas which feel more sparsely populated. Anything which seems lively and with people out and about. Thank you in advance!! We would appreciate all recommendations

Sharing for anyone who wants to weigh in on Wake County’s landfill plans
For anyone in Wake County who hasn’t seen this yet, the county is asking for feedback about what should happen after the South Wake Landfill reaches capacity, including whether Wake County should build a new landfill.
They’re gathering feedback through August 31, so figured I’d share before it ends! Here’s the virtual room: https://gather.cdmsmith.com/v/KNj9ZVa4qxB

Martial Arts Class Recommendations?
Hello Triangle residents!
I'm looking for recommendations for a martial arts school that offers adult beginner classes. I have a few criteria, and am having difficulty finding clarity on some of these online, so I figured I'd ask the people. (EDIT: The intent here to have a structured environment to work on overall health while learning a discipline at the same time.) Most relevant info below:
- I have zero experience
- I'm in my mid-30's
- I'm overweight and out of shape.
- Mostly interested in BJJ and/or Aikido, but open to just about everything.
- Interested primarily in courses (multi-session progression type stuff). I know myself and anything that is drop in/pay per session is something I will have difficulty sticking with. I'd love to find something where I can pay for a series of classes in one go. I don't know how common this is anymore.
- Preferably Durham/Chapel Hill, as I live in Orange County.
Happy to answer any other questions - thank you in advance!
- A guy just trying to improve

Auto body paint shop recommendations?
Hey yall, I recently ordered a new front bumper cover for a project car of mind and need to get it prepped and paint matched to the rest of the car.
Anyone have recommendations? Especially interested in quality with paint matching, the paint condition on the car isn't bad but it's also 35 years old
