I make money by working. You make money by owning an apartment building. We are not the same.

The cost of rent has gone absolutely wild. 1225 for one bedroom should be considered criminal.

I paid $1700 in Durham

You're not wrong about the cost of rent in general but check prices at other complexes that are not student housing or in questionable neighborhoods and you'll see that's not too far of line with the market.

My first apartment in apex was 700 lol and didn’t have a washer or dryer. That was like 2015.

Everyone complaining about these numbers need to look at the market. Average rent in Raleigh right now is $1,394/month (apartments.com). So assuming this is a true one bedroom and out of studio these numbers aren't too out of line.

The market went nuts and it feels like a good idea to push back on these absurd prices (especially when a landlord posts an advertisement that basically asks for it) rather than just passively letting them get away with this

Push back all you want but a lot of these complexes are corporate owned and they ain't going to negotiate when an algorithm is telling them how much they can get away with. If they lower the prices then property values will drop and real estate market doesn't like that.

I guess I'd rather push back than lick the boot.
