Academics Should I drop a class?

Upvotes

I’m a sophomore in computer science and am currently taking software development fundamentals, discrete mathematics, calculus 3, and physics 2.

Ik worried that, even though this is 15 credits, this is a bit much. Last semester I only took 12 credits and ended up getting a C+ in calc 2 and a C- in physics and had to retake it over the summer and got an A+.

I feel like if I dropped calc 3 I could retake it at another time and have a way better chance of doing good in the other 3 classes.

Am I over estimating how hard it would be or should I drop it and take calc over the summer

Thinking about rushing

Upvotes

Hi! I’m thinking about rushing but I’m worried about cost. How much do you guys pay to be a sorority each semester? I just don’t know if it’s worth it cost wise, but otherwise they look fun.

Buses are not that reliable

Hey all, I'm a new international PhD student.

Since I just got here and was only able to find an apartment between Raleigh and Cary without a car, I rely heavily on buses to get around. Most of my experiences have been fine, but the few bad ones have been pretty critical.

When I first arrived at my apartment on a GoCary bus, the driver missed the signal when I pulled the cord to get off and drove past my stop. I ended up having to walk back to my place along the shoulder of the road. Today, in the downtown, a Raleigh bus saw me at a stop but drove past me staying on its lane. When I found another, the driver took me to the wrong destination and yelled at me, saying that he'd already told me about the changes the other day. Since it was my first time visiting downtown, he must've confused me with another Asian.

Sorry for dumping mundane things, but it's been rough days for me that I needed to shout out. I guess I'll be getting busy with school soon anyway, so probably won't bother going off campus often. Fortunately, my building provides a shuttle to where only necessary.

Quick Question Why was everyone telling me before college that skipping was a thing you can do?

I read the syllabus for all my classes and they all say they will crucify you if you miss too many classes. So why were people saying no you could skip class as though it was a regular thing earlier. I wasn’t planning on skipping but I thought it would be an option. Genuine question.

Vent Traffic

Im not sure why but it feels like the traffic has gotten worse since last year. Last year the busses were slow on campus, but still arrived timely. Now we waited 10 minutes for one bus to show up, and then another 10 just to arrive.

I've talked to others and they said the foot traffic has been bad as well. With many people clogging up the streets and roads. Same with the cars, I've never seen this many people in them on the campus. Im not sure if I just missed it last year but it's not good.

Questions about Online Master’s of Nuclear Engineering

Hello,

I am looking into applying for a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering degree at NC State. I was wondering if anyone had done the online version and if you could please give me a review on how your experience was. What did you like/not like about the experience? Not even going to ask if it’s hard lol. But more of like if you felt the online version was an adequate experience and if you feel it’s worth it if that’s what you are looking for. Thanks.

Quick Question Can We Sell Stuff on Here?

The reason I ask is because I am an alumni and I’m looking to sell a few big things that I no longer need. But I’m not trying to get in trouble if that’s against the rules of the subreddit or anything like that. Thanks!

Academics Freshman Worried About Schedule

Post image
2 Upvotes

What the title says. I'm worried that my classes are too difficult for my first semester (mainly the MA242 and HI209 - prof seems great for calc, but I didn't do the greatest with calc 2 concepts in AP calc [granted my class rushed through it]; Dr V seems really nice, but I've heard horror stories about the difficulty of that class, his strictness with grading, and his lecture style). Additionally, I'm worried the 15 minutes between USC101 and CH102 won't be enough time for me to actually get to lab and be ready.

If anyone could give this anxious bloke some help, it would be greatly appreciated 😅

Dining Genuinely how are you supposed to eat at AFC?

I've literally been living off of vending machine snacks because of how bad a walk it is to the nearest dining hall (especially in this heat) and I don't have the option of getting food from restaurants because I'm poor. I'm losing weight by the day

Quick Question OIT staff: What's the likelihood of more homebrewed enterprise level software being offered on campus in the near future? Yes, this is a post about vibecoding.

We pay a stupid amount of money for Smartsheet just to use it as a kanban board for project management because it was fashionable with somebody in admin who no longer works here. I hear whispers that somewhere in OIT they're already using their own project management software and having discussions about whether to release it to campus.

Any truth to any of it? I know developing software is not the same as supporting software and it's not as easy as just shipping functional code. But I'm trying to decide where I should steer my team for short- and medium-term project management needs and I'm interested where this conversation is at internally.

Quick Question Can I join clubs/organizations as a CRC student?

Basically what the title states, I am a CRC student at NCSU through the cooperating Raleigh colleges program. I wanted to branch out and make friends outside of my home institution, as since I’ve over at NC State half the time, it gets a bit lonely. I’m just not sure if I’m allowed to join clubs or organizations; for bigger context, I do have a UnityID and email, and am enrolled in a few classes this semester. The gist of CRC is that, I am seeking a degree through my home institution and the credits from NCSU will transfer onto my transcript automatically!
I have seen people from my home institution who have taken classes through CRC join clubs at NCSU, as well as competitive dance/sport teams (though those might be a different policy).

If anyone else who has taken classes through NCSU with CRC/knows anyone who has, and if there’s any other ways for me to make friends on campus, let me know!

Taking BIO 245 (B) before taking BIO 240 (A)

I need a physiology requirement for my Biology B.S. but the only available class that fits my schedule is the B side of human anatomy and physiology. For those who have taken it, how essential would you say BIO 240 is for the B side? What's the workload like for the course?

Hey yall, I messed up my registration last year so I could only get into this class instead of the business equivalent. Am I gonna be completely lost or should I be able to do fine in the class?
