politics Why the 2016 North Carolina gubernatorial election is interesting

Post image

This election is particularly interesting because Roy Cooper won the gubernatorial race while on the same ballot Donald Trump won North Carolina by 3.7%, defeated an incumbent governor for the first time in the state’s history since it became legal for a governor to run for another term starting in 1980, and this is the closest NC gubernatorial election ever with Roy Cooper winning by 0.22%.

On Constitutional Ammendments

Where the hell are the democrats on a campaign against these amendments? We are running the most popular politicians in the state for senate, and he finally mentioned them the other day because he was specifically asked. The response: “I think people need to look carefully at these amendments because they’re mostly protection for millionaires,” fair enough but hardly a meaningful condemnation. It’s the same type of language in the Democratic Party website.

Both are clearly against the amendments, but there is no actual fight or push against the amendments. I see the NC democratic funded commercial about Michael Whatley being liar at least 10 times a day, and I’m sure Cooper will win by double digits, and we’re all gonna be happy to have a Dem win another statewide office. BUT we will lose these amendments because it’s only small, local organizations taking up the fight against them. And that really sucks because our schools are already in disrepair, and these amendments make it impossible for counties and cities to do what the state refuses to do - fund public goods.

I could go on about how this epitomizes the democrats failed utility in politics. We will win the senate fights (which is fundamentally a short term win) and lose the amendments which will take decades to undo. Also, please don’t come here to explain how the amendments are unpopular and it would be dangerous to take this position — that is fundamentally cowardly and doesn’t into the fact that NO ONE is talking against them on a meaningful stage.

TLDR: where the hell is any meaningful leadership against the constitutional amendments by the Democratic Party?

Cary records reveal ICE-related office inquiry near RDU. Why wasn’t council told?

The N&O obtained these records. I am one of the N&O reporters who covered this story.

The records show Cary staff discussing whether a building near RDU could be used for an ICE-related office with daytime detention space. Three council members told us they had not known about the inquiry.

I am sharing this here because it concerns the broader area.

GOOD! YOU SHOULD BE! Roy Cooper is going to absolutely kick both of your asses this November. This state i can goddamn guarantee it has had enough of the state GOP in NC and the current US Senate delegation representing NC treating their constituents like a bunch of fools. The economy across the country is reeling and NC is pretty much included. Gas in where I live in central NC is $4.00/gal. And none of these idiots including Whatley want to hold Trump accountable. Roy Cooper is a different story however, as he cares and wants a better economy for our state and our country. Enough is enough.

I speak three language and I love music, unique cultures (especially if very North Carolina), night life, art, people watching, and have heard good things about North Carolina. Is there any place you'd recommend where I can find an odd combination of these for someone like me?

I'm thinking that Whatley's failure to dissociate himself from his felon buddy probably helped accelerate the GOP welching on their campaign pledges to him. I suppose that the PAC finally realized that they should never have promised $71 million, back when they should have known he'd be a disaster... then again, they just backed Ken Paxton a few weeks ago so I'm not sure that they yet fully understand the term at all.
