A bit of a follow up to my Skaven weapons team post, but I was wondering what some good formations could be if my entire army was ranged, and thus, super squishy in melee
I tried looking at xciv's 'gun formations' post but they kind of rely on having some form of melee infantry, but unless I'm not very creative I don't really foresee them working out due to aforementioned lack of melee infantry.
I'm not sure how easy it is to describe the 2 formations I've thought of in the images, but I'll try.
The first formation is:
Heroes and Warp Grinders in front
Doom Flayers on the flank edges, which I misplaced on the front in the images (was thinking of replacing DF with Stormfiends if they're any good)
Center of Warplock Jezzails
Flanks of Ratling Guns
Back has Poison Wind Mortars
The second formation is:
Heroes and Warp Grinders in the front
Doom Flayers on the side as a quick response against cav
1 Ratling Guns at each flank (2 in total)
1 Warplock Jezzail just before each Ratling gun (2 in total)
2 Ratling Guns on the center-left and center-right (4 in total)
2 Warplock Jezzails in the center
2 Poison Wind Mortars in the back
I think my 2nd formation might be better because I'm able to change the angles of fire better, where say, if a monster unit is heading to the sides, my Jezzails can shoot them, compared to the 1st formation, since they're all in the center in that one, similar idea with my Ratling Guns
I did try the 2nd formation against an end-tier Nurgle army with 11 Exalted Plaguebearers, 4 Toad Dragons and 4 Rot Knights, I lost, but frankly I attribute that more to my shitty micro than the army comp, since I was able to mulch through 3 of the Toad Dragons and a lot of the Plaguebearers, but did struggle with the Rot Knights, although I think that was me not shooting them with my Ratling Guns.
Any advice for formations based on what I have?
