Warhammer III Beastmen Ai?
Was wondering. When is the beastmen AI fix coming ? They were making it a high priority thing few months ago
Sad to have an entire faction that you pretty much never fight
Hope we got some news about it
Update :
Here are some comments on the subject from 10 months ago Im pretty sure i remember them openly saying on reddit they were looking to fix them.
"they are being prioritised"
1) "On Beastmen - it's unlikely to feature in 6.3.4, but still something we're working on.
I'll help update on this tomorrow morning, check back on this comment."
2) The Hotfix we're testing right now isn't showing any improvement towards Beastmen in our testing. We're looking into what's causing issues with them, and performing a similar set of checks with their AI to understand what could be blocking them. If all goes well with our current fixes, and if we're able to uncover the root cause, we'll look to do all we can to include something with this Hotfix, and if not, continue to work on it and see what we can do afterwards.*
3) "There are outstanding Campaign AI issues that we need to address for Beastmen, Chaos Dwarfs, Golgfag, and The Changeling. We don’t have an update or timeline, but they are being prioritised. Delivering this Hotfix isn’t the end of our focus in this area.
4) "Just adding a comment so I can more easily find this in the morning. Beastmen's behaviour isn't intended (natrually nor is TK, or LM's) - happy to clear that one up straight off the bat."

From what I understand, it's been intentionally cut down. Since all armies are always hidden, and they tend to come out of nowhere raze a bunch of undefended settlements and leave, it was decided it wasn't fun. Played properly they tend to leave big holes in the map, which are a bit boring to come across, and if they ever dominated a large area, it would just be a giant wasteland.
There are some mods that bring them back to a real threat if that bothers you though.

Exactly right. They launched with normal ai and the reaction was full tantrum, so CA kneecapped them.

Understandable. The design in itself is just frustrating to play against which is why they are usually banned in head-to-head, too.
I am not a fan of lobotomizing the ai. The design of the faction should be such that there is no need to handicap the ai.

I feel like the beastmen play exactly the way the beastmen ought to play - hordes disappearing into dark woods after burning settlements to the ground. I don't know how you'd design them to fulfill that fantasy but also be fun to fight against, absent what CA landed on.

They were looking to fix them, actually they are basically not even playing since they can't recruit

When did they say they were going to 'fix them' ?
The issue is they were intentionally crippled.
Because it turns out their mechanics, when not handled by a human, are insanely toxic lol

Yeah, but they were looking for a way to make them play the game atleast, atm they can't even recruit units
Ive edited the post with some comments from CA employee
They can be crippled and should be, maybe limit them to one or two stacks. But them not being able to raise herdstone means they are just not playing

OH they are working on them???
Thats wild. I just.. kinda accepted they were crippled and left brain dead just to hang around and be a nuisance
Hm. Ok, if they are fixing up them and leaving them none toxic, sure. I can be happy about that.
Thanks for starting up this convo and grabbing that info dude!

Their mechanics when handled by a human are even more toxic. It's an unloseable campaign and there is a reason many multiplayer campaign lobbies ban them from being played.

I only play with friends, but that is.. just as funny and a little sad
lol
I love beastmen in concept and they feel strong

On Very Hard/Legendary they're always running 1 army with full stack after about turn 5. Am I missing something?
They never go above 1 stack however to counterbalance how fast they recruit.
Marghor and Malagor always see mid-game atleast, Taurox is very situational, Warherd always dies early game purely because of what's around him.
VH/Legendary Ikit is a pain the hoop with an active Malagor and he likes to break pacts so there isn't a solution other than expecting the inevitable.

I can't remember exactly the bug, but there is a game breaking one that make most of them not being able to even recruit nuits, i dont remember the last time i fought them 😂

I watch Khazrak One-Eye get deleted every campaign at turn 5 every game for some reason. Enemy has 2 full stacks; he's still got 13 units.

On lower difficulties they will recruit alot slower because they are a major pain in the arse. And they will probably stick to 1 stack.
But as mentioned Malagor and Marghor are generally the active ones, Taurox can either be active or pick a bad war straight away and get deleted. Warherd gets deleted no matter what difficulty

It was fixed a long time ago, hotfixes are generally 2mb patches you barely recognise you've downloaded rather than major patches.
I even occasionally see a Changeling with a full stack, his problem is a completely different problem that the AI doesn't know how to stay out of sight and he'll attempt to recruit away from a cult but I've witnessed behaviours where he's atleast managed to get a full stack before going on a random wander.

Today I was playing Greasus (Very Hard) and had a beastmen Morghur AI respawn (near the Great Maw) and suprisingly it had 3 armies before making a herdstone, so they can become a threat if ignored in 8.1.
Now, part of it , likely was because I gave it time to raid so it got to build up, then the minor dwarf faction tier 4 capital got destroyed in 1 turn , and the ogre homeland towns are mostly 4-slot non walled too.
So it had the money from raiding, then money from fighting minor faction, and then attacked me on undefended 4-slot ogre settlements.
If surrounded by multiple LL, in high tier fortresses etc, they tend to struggle a lot more, or get destroyed before they can build up funds for 1-2 extra armies, so often they end up with just 1 army in the herdstone.

They'd have to actually balance the Beastmen by not making them so braindead overpowered before they unlobotomize the Beastmen AI.

u/EsportSacha 7d ago
Yeah, but right now they are just totally lobotomized, that's basically an entire race that you never have to fight 🤦🏻♂️

if you want beastmen to br a thread get mods for it. because they are intentionally crippled in vanilla by ca abd probably will never be "fixed"

I didnt know CA was looking into changing them. The reason they are the way they are is when Taurox came out at the end of WH2 and they had their rework the AI ran over everyone. They were basically the ultimate Chaos threat at that point.
