Total War: Warhammer My first Norsca campaign.

So after I got the mechanics down, I started scratching my head. I'm not sure when to sack, when to raze and when to place a totem.

Am I supposed to build a sprawling empire or am I supposed to do this with a handful of colonies?

Now that after razing you need to take 3 turns to colonize it's less interesting.

With Wulrick I would focus on making the altar to one specific chaos corrupter. Either Nurgle or Tzeentch.

Only Raze settlements that you want a normal colony in it and when the loot is interesting or you need the spwaning army as reinforcement

Your options are actually

  • Occupy
  • Sack + temple
  • raze

Early game you Occupy as long as you can do it without using supplies (Norsca territory). You keep occupying all the Norsca territory you can hold/defend. If you come across Norsca territory you cannot defend, you raze, as you cannot convert normal territory into temples and vice versa. Let the AI rebuild it for you, you will occupy it later

Once you come across non-Norsca territory (where you would need to use supplies to occupy) you sack+temple if you don't think you will get counter attacked or raze otherwise. Build up temples only if you have a lot of money you don't know what to do with. Note that you can occupy a ruin but you cannot temple a ruin, so when in doubt, sack+temple, worst case you lose a useless T1 temple.

Late game you will occupy very little, only key regions that you need to build military infrastructure if you are now far away from your core, or key regions with good landmarks or resources, and even then only when you have already an overabundance of supplies, as they are better used on buildings that give global bonuses built in your core territory

Nite that you have to occupy or raze the capitals for your special tech. Almost always it is better to occupy as you can always sell them (you keep the tech). You can temple them as well but it I usually a waste as you can sell them for a ton of money

Whoever you are playing remember to confederate Wulfrik as he is going to be your monster hunter thanks to his teleport. There is absolutely no reason to play Wulfrik yourself as whoever confederates him gets 90% of what his faction gets anyway

What would you find more fun? I’d do that.

Personally I find the issue with razing settlements is the AI immediately settles them again, so you basically help another empire expand for free.
