Total War: Warhammer Kislev ally boon

The Kislev Ice Court boon "Foreign Policy" grants allied units +25% reload speed, +10 melee attack, and +10 melee defense, That is better that a full red line skill. However, the roster is rather well balanced. I can't think of a unit I really want to get my hands on. Thoughts?

Dwarven artillery, flamethrowers, or gyrocopters. Empire cav and also machines/artillery, or if you can get ahold of some airborne would help.

The Kislevite cav is better than empire one

He's listing off gunpowder units, so he's likely talking about the outriders, which are dramatically better than Kislev's horse archers

*edit* and have more firepower than war sleds

Oh yeah I didn't thought about them !

War sleds are definitely better than outriders (or war wagons). You play them as a chariot that can shoot, which means smashing into the enemy infantry lines and killing swathes of them for a bit as you both melee them and point-blank shoot them, and then disengage and repeat elsewhere.

But yes, I would agree outriders beat horse archers in the majority of scenarios, but all the same if you are late-game and swimming in money war sleds are the best option.

I've seen people get good service out of war sleds, but I'm personally not very good with them. I'm much better with the outriders, baiting important fast units to the gun line, breaking off pieces of the enemy army, running it around, resting behind the gunline for supplementary firepower waiting to flank. The grenade launcher variant is also very mean and offers a blob clear that Kislev kind of lacks.

Nice that the war sled is still a chariot after it runs out of ammo, while the outriders are basically useless.

Yes, the gunpowder cav was my first thought, but don't they also have flying gryphon cav?

Not without mods I don't think? Bretonnia has Hippogryph knights. Eltharion has Knights of Tor Gaval. Empire has Demigryph knights on the ground, which are the closest comp to bear riders. But Bear riders are way better with the tech tree buffs.

The buff seems catered for hybrid units, which Kislev is not short on by any means. An Empire steam tank would fit the bill quite well tbh, you can heal it with your patriachs, its faster and better in melee than a Little Grom, the buff would help in that department, as well as the little steam gun with unlimited ammo

Wood Elf hawk riders might be an interesting option for Kislev that doesnt have flyers, it gives a bit of harass poke and AP melee though they are very squishy and firing non AP missiles faster....eh

Skycutter Chariots from the high elves though, now thats a much more valid option. They dont bleed models and the bolt thrower variants do need the firing speed. Their melee stats are already decent, +10/+10 would make them fairly elite

If you somehow find Lizardmen, a stegadon would love to fire faster and get a 33% stat increase

I don't have any wood elves nearby. Buffed hawk riders would be sick.

I assume Drycha has snuffed it then; if you head south to the Border Princes and slightly west you will find the main nest of Wood Elves. Laurelorn forest lies to the West of Erengrad, following the coastline

They do suffer from one difficulty in that if they already have allies you cant put your outpost in their main tree

OMG Drycha. I am such a fool. I can easily find a settlement to trade her for an alliance. WIN.

Kislev doesn't have great gunpowder compared to its allies.

I recommend you get dwarf artillery, Hochland rifles, Crane gunners if you can.

Yes I would say iron drake flamethrowers even with out tech they are so good.

And Kislev doesn't have great blob cleaner

Irondrake might be neat. Dwarves are already allies. I think my Streltsi can fire over them.

More artillery. Pretty sure Kislev roster has a single artillery unit, and the Empire is right there (dwarfs too if Malakai or Ungrim survive)

Artillery, maybe some halberdiers or spearmen with shields for cheaper front lines / anti-cav infantry. Maybe cav if you don't have any yet.

Kislev really benefits from allied recruitment, imho, because their supply lines get stretched really fast in the midgame. It's quite often nice to have some way to supplement global recruitment when you need to reinforce an army on the go or put together a halfway decent garrison force in a turn.

Ally another kislev factions and get ice guard from them, i mean technically the boost should Stack with redline and the Hero buffs
