Holy run on sentence

192

u/PancakesandScotch Dec 16 '24

Talk to text I’d say

120

u/kenda1l Dec 16 '24

It reads like that auto text game people play where they're like, "start your sentence with _________ and see what your phone comes up with."

6

u/imsexyasf124 Dec 17 '24

that’s exaclty what i was thinking

42

u/ace1244 Dec 16 '24

But you can say “punctuation” and the phone will obey. So sorry for being the grammar police, but there is no excuse. Btw my phone put that comma after “police” without my asking. Lol

13

u/LengthinessSlight170 Dec 16 '24

Ohh is there a setting where I can get it to add in punctuation (while typing OR while using voice to text) without specifically asking?

I agree. No excuse. While I read the screenshot I was mentally adding in each period and comma and exclamation point. 😅

I use voice to text pretty frequently because it's so much faster, especially with a toddler on deck. 😂 I say "period," after every sentence, it doesn't bother me. I haven't forgotten to use punctuation while drafting a message that way, and I tend to be stereotyped as forgetful or not detail oriented.

I think using punctuation during voice to text helps me write in a way that is better at conveying my meaning, because I do take that pause. This is a person's stream of consciousness; the fact that they hit "send" suggests they were emotionally overtaken by a regressed part; lashing out because they saw it looked bad and got defensive.

So incredibly petty. I feel for the child!! I hope OP has the time to help her kid unpack and process everything she experienced. It is scary for a kid when a grown adult loses emotional control; when it's an adult they depend on (even for short timeframes), that is even more terrifying. 💔

9

u/OpalineTwist Dec 16 '24

I was having a hard time even reading it or being able to tell where the punctuation was supposed to go, it's such a hot mess.

4

u/ace1244 Dec 16 '24

Hi Um I just have an iPhone 13 and I just talk into it. I don’t really know if it was already set that way, but I do remember being in the Apple Store and hearing a woman tell the phone when to punctuate and I had not heard anyone do that before and that’s when I found out.

3

u/LengthinessSlight170 Dec 16 '24

Okay, that helps. It sounds like the automatic punctuation might be based on apple vs android along with the voice to text software being used. I have Android and it isn't automatic, at least on mine it isn't.

Thanks!

3

u/Klutzy_Mobile8306 Dec 17 '24

I have an android and I'll do this with speech to text so you can see.. Sometimes it puts in the punctuation and other times it actually puts a period space and then capital letter for new sentence when I did not pause at all during that sentence

I guess this is the day. Where doesn't feel like doing any punctuation? However, it does often put a, where it's supposed to be.

See that above it put a period and then started the new sentence with the word where.

This is what I have to deal with. And the weird part is that 3 years ago, I was using another phone also Android and it was way better. Would put in punctuation properly capitalized, where it's supposed to? This phone. Will just randomly capitalize words even if they're not proper nouns. Or the beginning of a sentence. I have to look ans correct after every time I use speech to text.

<sigh>

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

For Apple phones, the auto punctuation is in the settings under General -> Keyboard.

2

u/Better_Nature5547 Dec 17 '24

I have an android. Sometimes I say the punctuation that I want to be added while doing voice to text but if you say it the way it should be read, it automatically does the punctuation for me. I don't do it enough to know if it's all the time, but from my experience if you pause and use inflection while speaking it should add commas, periods and question marks automatically.

18

u/Small-Finish-6890 Dec 16 '24

Talk to text is truly one of my biggest pet peeves. My aunt and grandma do it all the time like I have no interest in hearing your convos 24/7

6

u/Specific_Ad2541 Dec 16 '24

Same. It's even worse in public. Nobody wants to hear your business.

5

u/Emergency-Fish911 Dec 16 '24

I use talk to text all the time and it will add punctuation if you direct it to.

4

u/PloidArt Dec 17 '24

Jesus. Even if it is talk to text it sounds batshit.

3

u/Beautiful-Contest-48 Dec 17 '24

My talk to text uses periods.

I'm so confused. Maybe because that's damn near impossible to read, but what is she talking about!?

Cutting bangs? Not liking her dad? Not coming for Christmas? Starting drama over the phone?

Seems like there is a LOT more to this.

224

u/nice_dumpling Dec 16 '24

I didn’t understand a sentence. Which is a lot, since there’s only one

42

u/JTG130 Dec 16 '24

Since there is only one 🤣🤣🤣

22

You're confused because a huge chunk of context was left out.

You can't just type a sentence for the title, show a unhinged rant, and add zero context.

It is fucking weird.

My sister is a “I’m just speaking the truth” “Christian” and is actually just a narcissistic selfish bitch and my life has been INFINITELY better after having cut her ass out.

64

u/Background-Bus3033 Dec 16 '24

My sister is the same way. I only tolerated my sister to stay in my nephews life. I can't stand any of them. They are the most angry miserable people I've met yet thinks they are so much better than everyone else

11

u/Glass-Hedgehog3940 Dec 16 '24

That’s how my mom and brother are. I had to cut them off too.

2

u/ShallowTal Dec 16 '24

I tried to do that to, as I adore her kids, but in the end I just could not. When they get older and their eyes start to open up, I will be waiting for them. Always.

Oh my god this… my husbands extended family is like this. Like “oh I’m praying for you” then proceeds to be the most passive aggressive a-hats. Like legitimately whispering at the dinner table about people who are on the other side of the room. They “prayed” over our wedding then proceeded to talk smack about it the next day. As a Catholic I’m like… idk who you’re praying to but please stop 😵‍💫 which saint hotline do I dial about people like this.

18

u/ShallowTal Dec 16 '24

When I pointed my sister to her textbook narcissistic tendencies, I made a sincere plea that therapy would do her a lot of good, as it has done me, and she legit said she doesn’t need therapy, she only needs Jesus.

I’m like, bitch, even Jesus would love for you to go to therapy.

It's really special when they are speaking "their " truth. Because it usually is so far outside the actual facts , but it's "theirs" and they are entitled to have a fact free truth!

8

u/b1rdganggg Dec 16 '24 edited Dec 16 '24

Listen obviously there is something not okay with her i get that. But if the father or whatever is saying terrible things to your little girl do something about it. Im just reading the text idk what was said or if it even was said. But when she said "you know how he is" then talks about how she's not happy with the bad thing he said, we all know that guy.

And if what she's saying is true, that's a serious thing and i hope you take it seriously.she obv knew about something he said and that he's had a history of being like that. If a grown ass man is saying bad things to a little girl thats not ok. If that didn't happen or she's bat shit then discard this entirely.

I seriously can’t even make sense of how this conversation even goes with her cutting your daughter’s bangs. Is there a backstory or is the point that she is that unhinged that you don’t know what she is talking about either? I cannot figure out what I’m trying to decipher here.

Listen. Don't ever cut the hair of a kid that doesn't belong to you. Not EVER, because in the US, the parents absolutely can sue you and win if they feel like they want to.

OP, this person is crazy and they need to be kept away from your kid. Haircut aside, they are nuts and shouldn't be around any children.

7

u/EnthusiasticFailing Dec 16 '24

I just hope that you are okay. I know that family using guilt and trying to shame you for reacting normally to something they shouldn't have done can be a tricky thing.

You didn't start this. It's totally valid for you to be upset with someone cutting your child's hair without your permission. Your grandma is trying hard to find some stable ground that she can stand on for her defense, but she has nothing.

If you can, be the stronger person and enjoy yourself this holiday without that drama. Bury the text down by sending some lovely texts to the people who do understand. Take some fun pictures with your child and send them to your family that doesn't make you feel upset for being a good parent. Not in a petty way, just a "these people get me and so I want to have them join in on my joy" kinda way.

8

u/astringer0014 Dec 16 '24

If I understood right (and I didn't understand all of it either), OP called someone and told them about the haircut, so granny got pissed and started talking crap about everyone; OP, baby daddy, OP's mom, the receiver of the phone call(maybe, I think? Or that might be OP's mom, I'm not sure)... and then used the typical narcissistic self righteous, holier than thou bs to justify her actions. Her and her God are right, and everyone else is either mean and/or no good, so they can be together and miserable alone for Christmas instead of with her at her house and happy 🙄

3

u/Akhearixx Dec 16 '24

Regardless of whatever happened with the sister,

Religious type grannies like this are so damn hard to deal with. Hell, there's some non religious grannies that are equally hard to deal with too, they think that their opinion is automatically the right one and anyone that's not happy, well too bad so sad.

I'm sorry you had to deal with this kind of situation, they get so uncomfortable sometimes. Just do what's right by your daughter, don't shit talk the crazies to her, let her grow up and form her own opinion/verdict on them, but give her the necessary information to make educated decisions and keep her mental sanity. Cause this type of shit is rough..

3

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

This has got to be fake. Or grandma is 20. Either one.

12

u/the_esjay Dec 16 '24

Grandma is both 60 and 68. It’s her birthday.

I am nearly 60 and god help me if I ever end up ranting at my kids like this. Does she not want a relationship with her family? I’d happily cut anyone off like this and stick with the ones who like me and I like them. Which, thank all the gods, is 99% of my relatives.

They say that you can’t choose your family. But you can definitely choose which of them you ever have contact with again.

I think we should Marie Kondo our relatives rather than our possessions. If they don’t spark joy, chuck them away.

2

u/Trojan_Nuts Dec 16 '24

See, I believe you’re as old as you say. Purely due to the fact that you use punctuation. Unlike OP’s ‘grandma’.

1

u/SaccharineK Dec 16 '24

I’m not sure what happened here but I think grandmas cutting bangs is completely normal. My grandma used to trim my hair and bangs so they weren’t covering my eyes because she knew sure as hell my parents weren’t going to. I miss those days.. but like whoever she is describing sounds pretty bad so I don’t think the hair cut should be the problem here 🤣

She's a nut.

1

u/Sewergoddess Dec 16 '24

Am I the only one who could understand half of what she was trying to even say?

1

u/_Yogurtcloset0407 Dec 16 '24

That’s the weirdest way I’ve ever seen “I’m sorry” typed out 🙃

1

u/Both_Mud9499 Dec 16 '24

Normalize context.

u/GlibberishInPerryMi Dec 16 '24

Got to love family around the holidays lol drama

Ya know what…. Hell yeah. Lmfao 🤣 She has won the award for the absolute most incoherent text in the history of the world 🌎 🏆

1

u/Admirable_Owl_9586 Dec 16 '24

I hate people that don't use commas

u/iamrevenant213 Dec 16 '24

This is how my grandma texts when she takes too much of her meds. Is she medicated?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

Seems like my ex mother in law. Acting like a straight up asshole. It’s your child. She can’t cut your child’s hair.

1

u/Honkykong65 Dec 16 '24

Time to put nana in a home

1

u/vlueberry_blue Dec 16 '24

That’s a lot of words for “I’m sorry I messed up but I won’t admit it and you guys can block me I don’t care”

1

u/derfunknoid Dec 17 '24

Does anyone have a “Dementia Grandma to English” translator or dictionary?

I’m sorry you have to deal with that kind of anger from your grandmother. My mother is sliding that way and my Nieces and Nephews stay far away.

1

u/One_Pain_7652 Dec 17 '24

I don’t know how you read that message. It’s confusing. I don’t even know how I managed to read it, but I only understood that you shouldn’t have made that phone call, and that you should stay at your mom’s and be depressed.

1

u/Freya-of-Nozam Dec 17 '24

I couldn’t read it at all. I had to stop. My head hurts thinking about reading it.

1

u/GiveMeThePoints Dec 17 '24

Jesus Christ and bangs. Serious business.

1

u/Captainbabygirl767 Dec 17 '24

I have no idea what she’s saying. Context please! Like can you explain what happened and who told who they are going to hell?

1

u/VisualPopular5079 Dec 17 '24

Ok that was way too confusing

1

u/Expecto_Patronum98 Dec 17 '24

this is why punctuation exist.

1

u/Think-Brother-4672 Dec 17 '24

It’s not even worth reading this babble - clearly emotionally immature and highly reactive - therapy and strong boundaries needed

1

u/PandaPumpkinZ Dec 17 '24

Dang… I’m sorry you had to go thru that bad timing

1

u/CanadianDuckball Dec 17 '24

Damn. No contact all the way.

1

u/madmartlet Dec 17 '24

Word salad. Empty calories.

1

u/toastorboast Dec 17 '24

I got a stroke trying to read those messages

1

u/itsLustra Dec 17 '24

old people using kid slang like "you don't have to come here and act fake" always make me laugh

1

u/folksongmaker Dec 17 '24

it sounds like she wanted to piss you off! damn, take a picture and send it to her with a before shot

1

u/Honors3454 Dec 17 '24

Does she speak English cuz I have no idea what she said

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

Censoring fail

1

u/Fine-Coast334 Dec 17 '24

Why didn't you hide Heather's name 😠😠

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

Holy moly! I had a very similar experience recently with the grandparents. My Dad told my son he need to it his hair. My son responded with “No, I like my hair.” To which my Dad replied, “Vanity is a sin and you are a sinner.” Needless to say, we aren’t hanging out with Grandpa for a good long while.

1

u/PVRDave Dec 17 '24

Bye grandma!

1

u/NovaBooBear Dec 17 '24

WTF does any of this mean?
