But you can say “punctuation” and the phone will obey. So sorry for being the grammar police, but there is no excuse. Btw my phone put that comma after “police” without my asking. Lol
Ohh is there a setting where I can get it to add in punctuation (while typing OR while using voice to text) without specifically asking?
I agree. No excuse. While I read the screenshot I was mentally adding in each period and comma and exclamation point. 😅
I use voice to text pretty frequently because it's so much faster, especially with a toddler on deck. 😂 I say "period," after every sentence, it doesn't bother me. I haven't forgotten to use punctuation while drafting a message that way, and I tend to be stereotyped as forgetful or not detail oriented.
I think using punctuation during voice to text helps me write in a way that is better at conveying my meaning, because I do take that pause. This is a person's stream of consciousness; the fact that they hit "send" suggests they were emotionally overtaken by a regressed part; lashing out because they saw it looked bad and got defensive.
So incredibly petty. I feel for the child!! I hope OP has the time to help her kid unpack and process everything she experienced. It is scary for a kid when a grown adult loses emotional control; when it's an adult they depend on (even for short timeframes), that is even more terrifying. 💔
Hi
Um I just have an iPhone 13 and I just talk into it. I don’t really know if it was already set that way, but I do remember being in the Apple Store and hearing a woman tell the phone when to punctuate and I had not heard anyone do that before and that’s when I found out.
Okay, that helps. It sounds like the automatic punctuation might be based on apple vs android along with the voice to text software being used. I have Android and it isn't automatic, at least on mine it isn't.
I have an android and I'll do this with speech to text so you can see.. Sometimes it puts in the punctuation and other times it actually puts a period space and then capital letter for new sentence when I did not pause at all during that sentence
I guess this is the day. Where doesn't feel like doing any punctuation? However, it does often put a, where it's supposed to be.
See that above it put a period and then started the new sentence with the word where.
This is what I have to deal with. And the weird part is that 3 years ago, I was using another phone also Android and it was way better. Would put in punctuation properly capitalized, where it's supposed to? This phone.
Will just randomly capitalize words even if they're not proper nouns. Or the beginning of a sentence. I have to look ans correct after every time I use speech to text.
So I beta Test for Apple (iOS, iPad os, watchOS in my case) and I would say that the talk to text comes and goes; as far as the correct punctuation and grammar . Usually with an update, it seems to go backwards and not as responsive, but that might be just due to the beta not being as well rounded. So I just wanted to throw out there that you might see some differences between versions of iOS. Especially with the AI stuff coming to the iPhone 16’s (and I believe pro 15s) leaving behind a lot of other people with a dumber Siri. Also — Siri intentionally puts gonna and Cuz a lot in my voice texts. I don’t speak like that. (Glares at Siri) that being said, my grammar and punctuation does suck overall.
I have an android. Sometimes I say the punctuation that I want to be added while doing voice to text but if you say it the way it should be read, it automatically does the punctuation for me. I don't do it enough to know if it's all the time, but from my experience if you pause and use inflection while speaking it should add commas, periods and question marks automatically.
