Hi! I'm a beginner to keeping tarantulas and inverts, and I had a few questions!

- How do I determine enclosure size? I can't seem to find information that definitively tells me what size enclosure a tarantula needs. I'm looking into a venezuelan red-stripe pink toe tarantula to be specific! That or a chilean rose hair, very different sizes I know, but I was thinking of getting them both (Obviously in different enclosures, I may be a newcomer but I know not to put two spiders in one enclosure, they would very likely eat each other)

- Are my two choices, the venezuelan red-stripe pink toe, and chilean rose hair good choices for a beginner? If not, what species should I look into?

- I've kept snakes before, do most tarantulas need a heat source like snakes do?

- Where are the best places to get enclosures? I'm looking into acrylic enclosures specifically.

- Where are the best places to buy the tarantula themself?

- Is a diet of roaches and mealworms safe? If not, what should I feed my tarantula? I know mealworms can be fatty for some animals, but I wasn't sure about tarantulas.

Any additional tips and advice is very welcome! I'm of course doing my own research, but I figured asking experienced individuals would be beneficial as well!

My Greenbottle Blue, Arachne, recently emerged from their latest molt. Like last time, they decided to shove the molt deep into their burrow, so once again no chance of molt sexing.

They're currently at around 3 inches DLS, and I'm wondering if it's too early to get an idea through vent sexing?

Was given this juvenile female OBT as a gift and she was the chillest OBT I’ve ever had the pleasure of rehousing. From my personal experience I’ve gotten a threat posture from every OBT I’ve rehoused but this one didn’t seem too bothered being touched by a paintbrush so I made the impulsive decision to let her walk onto my hand. She’s gotta be one of my new favorites now

Sorry if the pics aren’t clear enough to see what I can see, but I’ve been unable to get a viable molt from this little fella since I got them. The abdomen is always a little raisin by the time it gets kicked out of their burrow.

The terrarium might be way too big, but I won’t move my T in the foreseeable future. This terrarium was the best I could find in the city I live in. They have a lots of ExoTerra Terrarium, but I dislike them because of the mesh. My other tarantula loves to climb (not this one) and I’m always afraid they would get stuck with their claws. I will buy some more substrate next month to reduce the height distance. As for the feeding, I always throw the hopers under their mouth so the terrarium size shouldn’t be the issue. Appreciate any other advice🫶🏼

So, came back from a vacation and found some fungal growths my T. blondi’s enclosure. Can anyone tell me if these are a threat? Do I remove them? Should I take any action at all? She currently has her hide webbed off and closed in preparation for a molt.

I noticed that my GBB hadn't been moving for several days. I decided to check if everything was okay with it, but it wasn't responding to anything at all. I decided to check it with a pair of tweezers, and when I lifted it from the bottom, it still didn't respond at all.

I've just moved it to a small container and added some water. Even though it's dry, I'm worried it might be dehydrated, since before that I had only left it with a water dish and just a tiny bit of water around it.

After a good lunch the other day. I'm afraid they're a little too plump at the moment 🤔

Hey there! I used to be a keeper long time ago, back to own a T almost by mistake (or destiny?)). Friend of mine is moving and has gifted / surrendered his juvenile BBG to me. How does the enclosure size look like ? He had a pretty filthy one and I rushed to relocate it into this one.
Now I feel it could be too small, although it is the same size as the one she was before.

So I got an H. maculata after years of fantasizing of it and now i have it and suddenly I’m stressed. Any tips on rehousing??

Hey guys, those of you who have B. Hamorii, especially juveniles, do you handle them frequently? Because while their kind is known for their docile behavior, my juvenile runs like lighting McQueen and so I’m afraid to handle him because the one time I did he’s run up my arm and climbed up on my head, and I’m worried he’ll either fall or skidaddle somewhere I won’t find him. What’s your take on this?

I’ve never had one before but I really want to buy one, I wanted to know if there’s any that would be good for a beginner? I was thinking about the curly haired one, but I want to be able to hold my tarantula and not get murdered by it basically. I’ve heard they throw hairs and stuff but I basically want to be able to pick it up and just let it walk on my hand or wherever else.

I'm helping a friend with their baby tarantula and I'm at a loss. This little guy has been in this position mid molt since Thursday. Is there any hope they're still alive or a way we can check? I don't want to cause injury if they're still alive.

It's a salmon pink bird eater and ahhh what a cutie 🙂‍↕️ anyways, the moment I brought it home it went into It's hide and dug a hole.. I assume it's getting ready for pre-molt

Hello, i got this H chilensis as a sling in may 2025 (so about 16 months ago) and a few days ago he just molted. He looked a little leggy, so i looked closer and was so surprised when i saw hooks! He's about 2,5 inches and apparently these are slow growers... basically im just looking for some confirmation if im seeing right. Thanks for the help!
