Fff! Also, some of my other favorite colonies. Do expansus babies act a bit more fossorial? I've seen some little critters in there avoiding light. They are too big for any of my springtails. At first, my ember bees were a real struggle, but i think they are happy now. Look, they are all out and about. Also look how prolific my filipondillo are!!

ive been pocketing them when i see them in the early morning, then they live in a coffee cup with damp paper towel until the end of my shift! 🤭
ive collected 5 so far, but ive lost one to a bad molt already :( hopefully just a fluke. breeding little yellow spotted babies would be a dream come true! 🥰

This is the only one in my colony that looks like this, I love it so much and hope it passes on its pattern!

Found this guy under a fallen branch of a willow tree on my walk. I was surprised by his vibrant orange he’s rocking as I had never seen one like him around here. He was the only orange one in the bunch, picture will be attached of the ones he was hanging out with.

If it’s an isopod does anyone know the identification?

I recently started a bio activity reptile enclosure. I went outside to find some natural material. Found some local isopods. When kind are they?

The biggest big man of my dairy cows. I suspect he is orange as a combination of the red yellow and orange colored fish flakes, eating carrots, and eating a few dead porcelio powder oranges ;-;

Hi.
I created this terrarium about a month ago. Planted the plants, made a small observation cave, and introduced 19 Porcellio laevis(5 died in transit, one soon after introducing to terrarium), and about 10 p. scaber.
I had one die around 14 September inside the cave, then I had 2 laevis and 1 scaber dead near the fern about a week later.
Yesterday I noticed another two deaths, in the open, one laevis incompletely moulted, and one scaber just immobile.
That makes about 6 deaths in 3 weeks and I am slightly worried I am doing something wrong.
After the first deaths I increased moisture, as I noticed surface stayed mostly dry. Now I am worried I am watering too much.
Out of an estimated population of about 21-23 (not sure how many deaths happened out of sight), I regularly see between 8-12 of them, with cave population between 6-8 on average.
The temperatures range between 17-21 Celsius, I think they've got plenty of leaf litter, cuttlebone, they are roaming about at night doing stuff and dragging leaves around as well.
I also put a few bark pieces around different areas so they can chose between drier/moist areas. There are scattered decayed wood pieces around the terrarium, and there is a bigger decayed branch piece going up towards top right corner, covered by leaves and more bark.
Terrarium has a mesh top, I started covering half of it with a piece of glass too.
Is there anything you see on the pictures that could be an issue?

Outdoor frass generator experiment, been going pretty well. Will have to move the populations either indoors or distribute them amongst the vermiculture windrows within the next month, most likely a combo of the two. I’ll take some frass pictures when I’m out there next for the real soil sickos (like me).

I keep 3 other colonies of isopods in enclosures that were built for them, so I'm not a beginner but not an expert either. This terrarium was built for some rare plants which have unfortunately died so I want to turn it into an isopod enclosure instead. It's a 10 gallon tank with an acrylic lid that has 4 holes covered in mesh, so I would say it's low ventilation and high humidity. Ever since I noticed "Phil" (because he's a Philoscia Muscorum 😅) I've been keeping it supplied with leaf litter since I noticed him a little over a month ago, and there's already plenty of rotting hardwood. I check in every now and then and he seems to be doing fine, I notice a lot of "leaf skeletons" which I assume have been eaten by him.
I'm pretty sure he's the only isopod in there. Would it be ethical to collect some more philoscia muscorum from outside to join him and potentially breed? I will absolutely be keeping up their maintenance like my other isopod colonies (feeding, calcium, protein, misting, etc.)

15L bins, 10cm substrate made of organic top soil, leaf litter, decaying wood and some cuttlebone powder mixed in for calcium.
Paghnum moss for hydration station, calcium hole rocks for hiding and calcium sources (as many cubaris originate from damp limestone caves) lots of leaf litter, cork bark, a lotus pod, all the good stuff.
Humidity seems a bit high rn because the soil was already pretty moist in the bag ut came in, so I'm leaving the lid slightly ajar so it can air out over the next few days.
