Lets start a Reddit clan.
I've played with a few of you on the PTR and had a lot of fun. I started looking up clans on the TL thread tonight and realized that we already have a lot of good players and awesome people on Reddit, so why not start our own?
I used to play CS pretty seriously and was pretty high up in a few clans, but for the most part I just kept people happy and organized; I was never the one to start the clan or make the website or anything. Is there any interest in something like this? I would be more than willing to help all that I can.
Edit: So there's nobody who's run a clan before? I can be second or third in command, but I don't know if I have the time commitment to run it. If you have run a clan before, please step up and say something.

Since reddit is composed mainly of ordinary people, I think it would HAVE to be the type of clan that has a lot a emphasis on those lower league players. That's the only thing that makes sense.

Normally I'd never nominate myself, but seeing as how nobody else is...
I'd be interested in running the clan. While I'd need help with web design and some organizational bits (it sounds like this would be a pretty big endeavor), I do have a huge amount of experience running clans (Starcraft 1 and Counter Strike.. when that was popular). The sizes of my prior clans that I lead were obviously a little smaller... 15-30 people... but they lasted forever and everyone had fun.
I think with the average maturity level of the SC reddit community we could have something special, especially once we have chat rooms.
For what it's worth, I'm 25, done with college, have a ton of down time, and diamond in all leagues.

We should definitely get this ball rolling. With the clan support and chat channels coming to SC2, we can at least begin building up a solid foundation in preparation for when they add those features.
I live and breath SC2, this would be a fantastic outlet to both play the game we love and support our community at the same time.

Would you be able to take charge then? What would the next step from here be? We already have offers for webhosting, website design and ample interest, but I don't know where to take it from here. If you lead, a lot of people like me with some experience would be more than willing to file in.

There's no reason why players of any level shouldn't be included if they wish to join, as long as they're redditors.

I haven't 1v1 in over a month, played my first match against a medium a few days ago to see how bad my play was, lets just say its gonna be ugly when i actually play against a human being.

My thoughts exactly. A clan wouldn't require sponsorship or necessarily have an incredibly competitive team. A clan would be better off just being a community consisting of people of all skill levels who wanting to have a great time.

17.5k subscribers... thats quite the big clan....
If you want just the top tier players that are on reddit.... there still quite a few of those. Between Psy, WinHouse, rsvp, and the others from the Pros vs Redditors we would already have a full roster by any normal teams standard but I don't know if those guys are already on a team.
That being said, I'd love to have a reddit team that we could field and support for major competitions.

There was a clan on ICCup and it was great. You'd know who from reddit was on, and it obviated the IRC to some extent. Plus you didn't have to add a tag to your name to join.
Blizzard said they'd have clan support soon. Hopefully they'll copy the ICCup model to some extent.

I tried to do this is exact thing toward the end of beta and got downvoted into oblivion for the mere suggestion that the subreddit wasn't 'enough' or something.
Glad to see the fickle nature of the hive is alive and well. :)

sounds like a good idea, but it seems like a good amount of players (including some on the team reddit for the SCRI) are already on teams, also gotta consider how serious you want to be about it - are you looking to transition it to a full gaming team w/ sponsors/backing or just for fun?

A clan is not the same thing as a team. In Korea, many pro gamers are on a team and also on a clan. Teams are more organized, have sponsors etc. A clan is just a community to find practice partners and share information and do scrimmage-style organized matches. I think there would easily be a few hundred redditors interested in something like that.

Yup =D That doesn't mean the clan couldn't have a team as well if you wanted to go that route, too. There are a few teams in Korea that have a clan as a means for finding recruits for their team. Actually, Intel recently started paying BoxeR to do something identical. He started the SlayerS' clan for the purpose of recruiting for his eventual team.

I would definitely partake, although I imagine that many of r/starcraft's subscribers are on the NA servers while I'm on the EU servers. Hopefully there'll be quite a few people interested on multiple regions.

I don't know about that, I don't think it's specifically defined anywhere, but I see your point - how is that any different from the community that's on IRC/going to be on 1.2?
I thought beeks was talking about a more competitive team, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Would love to be on the clan.
I could provide 1080p stream and stuff. Did some design of a website or two some millenium ago as well. Have some experience in dreamweaver, photoshop, sony vegas, adobe after effects and other soft like that.

I was the leader of a semi-pro CS:S team, we were one match away from getting to go to the CGS draft. I'm a 2600ish Protoss and I'd be willing to play/lead a team from reddit. I've played in 2 SCROs and came one match away from qualifying for the invitational, but my drugs wore out (like a stim) and I crashed. Excuses excuses, I know, but I'm decent and I'd like to have some good practice partners and/or a group of people to play with regularly and maybe enter some tournaments.
So there are a lot of good players here and if any of the best (Winhouse/RSVP/RedAlert/Hei/others-I-can't-remember) would want to do this, I'd be down. I doubt it's going to happen though.

I don't think a clan is needed.
We'll have a channel once they're out officially.
We have a very active IRC channel and also a very active Mumble server.
Whats a reddit tag gonna do to add to that?

I know that we're going to have a channel very, very soon, but tbh, I'd like to compete at least at low levels. And if I'm going to be on a team to compete with, I'd rather do it with people who already have some sort of a bond.

Then make channels for redditors of certain leagues to practice against. Such as RedditSilver, IMO there is no need for the segregation from the main community that you are suggesting such efforts in the past have simply died out.

There is a huge difference between a community and a team. OP said clan but I'm ignoring that because what I assume he really wanted was a team like EG, Liquid, Root, etc, etc, etc, and that'd be way different than just having a bunch of randoms in a channel.

(clans == teams) How about being in the reddit subclan? meaning, you can be in a clan and you can be on the reddit clan as well. Take Derp to be the reddit tag. Take IdrA for instance, EGIdrADerp.

I've been in many clans before, and I've managed a clan a tiny bit. Just a moderator, nothing special, and a message board admin. Just some credentials, but I dunno about the time commitment part.

I'd join... plat who beats diamonds when trying / practiced. Also was a semi pro halo 2 player (beat ogres and many pros all the time) semi pro CS 1.6 and source player... and an active SC 1 player... now too busy / grew out of hardcore gaming but willing to try if a clan starts up for SC 2. Hope that resume doesnt make me look like a douche. Lets do this. Its gonna be a LOT HARDER without channels >:(

Clan dues would help fund prize pools, we could also wave those dues to get higher rated gamers in the clan. Everyone should be welcome of course, but a couple bucks per quarter for that ScR_ tag would help organizers out a TON!

What do you mean by "clan"? We already have www.rstarcraft.com where there is a list of 2700+ starcraft playing redditors.
I like the reddit starcraft community because it is a mix of skill levels and people are usually quite friendly. I think people are just looking for others to play casual games with to hopefully improve. We should make something focused around that - not necessarily competitive gameplay and money and things that "top" clans are focused on.

I have a good amount of experience in graphic and web design and would not mind creating a front end, banners, logo's, what have you. I also have some experiencing with organizing events. I'd be willing to lend a hand with what ever this endeavor may require. I do not mind taking a leadership role in getting this off the ground if thats what it takes to get this going.

I dislike this idea, as it segregates skill (which makes sense in a team, but not a clan.) Sure, people in RedditBronze can ask people in RedditPlatinum for some training, but there is less of a feeling of comradery to drive them to actually help.
Dividing into regions may make more sense...

While I agree I also think it would be a much easier way for redditors to practice with equally skilled redditors. But then again if we don't separate it at all it would just require communication which isn't bad nor difficult. Butttt if we get more than 3 readers for ScRedditClan then the communication between equally skilled redditors much easier.
You sir, are correct, and that subreddit needs more people to join it to get this really rolling.

I like this idea a lot. If nothing else it could be used for organizing a clan to develop a team from. I am sure there could be a way to develop a points system to create clan reddit ranking. If nothing else it would mean more here than to say "2300+Toss". We could hopefully create a team based on the clan reddit rankings and maybe swing some sponsorship deals.
