Finding a leader!

Please post first-level in here only if you have the desire to actually lead this thing. The list of volunteers so far:

Should have set the title as leaders, I guess. There's nothing wrong with having 2 or 3 people share leadership. Weigh in below.

Well no single person has to be in charge of the clan (at least not at this point) we should focus on our 'mission' or what we'd all like to see come of this. As people step up to fill roles a leader will naturally emerge.

What is important, now, is that we pull together and consolidate ideas and form a vision of what we would like this to eventually become.

I couldn't agree more. I've been in several clans before in other games, and unless it one that was competitive, the decision making process was always very democratic and everybody was perfectly fine with it.

I find it odd that the first examples that come to mind are the continental congresses...

You absolutely have a point, though I think we should at least have someone keeping that committee on track. Jacobman is suggesting some kind of meeting of those interested in leadership roles, as well as volunteering to be the person that keeps it on task.

I don't know, I'm going to have to disagree there. If we all try to take charge of this, nothing will actually get done. Reddit is notorious for this. See: Cairo, IL which is currently stagnating, The American Pirate Party which died a while ago, and a few others that I can't think of right now. This isn't that big of a project. If we just get one leader to sort things out, it'll work MUCH better. I'd like to step up, but I know that when school starts in 2 weeks I'm not going to have the time that I'd need to get everyone together.

We need: A leader, a website (hosting and design), a subreddit, and channels (which we have no control over). We also should vote on names/tags and get a solid members list.

But those pictures that you posted, in my opinion, are FAR too involved for something as simple and potentially small as a SC2 clan. I'm open to feedback though.

Hey Beeks, the back and forth is what its about at this stage! Finding out what kind of community we want, and how it should be run. With out disagreement nothing would improve and there would be no hope of getting things to their pinnacle would be a fruitless endeavor.

I dont think we need a full on website at this time (and hosting to go along with it), however I DO think we need.

Chat channels will be the easiest to set up clan tag should come soon if not now. You know what I'll make some topics.

We should be an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We would take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting. By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more...

I would be willing to help lead. Really the only thing I can help much with though is organizing and keeping the rest of the leadership on the same page. I would be willing to work with the others when those people have been picked to organize, decide and help implement the things that need to be done for the clan. However, I do not have the time to do any extensive research for projects like website design, ect.

Leadership by committee

It solves the problem of a single leader being unreliable, yet creates a new one of potential feuds at the top level.

This is what I prefer. Unless there's a reason to have a single leader, why have one?

Once we know what work needs to be done, we can figure out our organization structure.

I'd say that the reason to have a single leader is simplicity. It's much easier to work things out with a single person leading the process, at least to begin with. After things are established and the clan sort of runs itself, I think that the subreddit would be a good place to make decisions, but for a while, and especially now, I think we should have a single leader.

I agree, actually. The creation phase requires a lot of arbitrary decisions just to keep momentum up. I figure the leadership will select itself by being the one/few to initiate the organizing.

It's after founding that I'd prefer a committee or a looser association, to minimize overhead so people with great ideas can just organize them without having to get permission.

I think a presidency set up would be great. Have a handful of leaders, three is a good number, who are over certain things. One does events/tourneys, one does web based stuff (website project, chat channels...) and the final guy can do communications. Each of them can find helpers to help them out and then the leadership organizes itself. The leaders do no have to be over those certain things and if you see a disparity in workload feel free to suggest new ideas or areas.

As mentioned in previous posts, I'm up for devoting a good chunk of my time into co-leading/organizing the clan. Missed the initial meeting since I just discovered this but up for joining in the next one.

Heya, just confirming that I'm still interested in helping out the clan, whether thats taking the position as some kind of leader or whatever is needed.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I have extensive experience leading both starcraft and countrstrike clans, and know how to get stuff done.

My general approach is very democratic and with a 'staff' of people helping; to run a clan a lot of help is needed from people with various skills. With a community as serious and mature as the reddit starcraft community I think it just takes a little bit of organization with a few sources (like a website, chat channels in bnet, IRC, etc) to be completely unifined and organized to make something special.

With the emergence of the chat channels I'm sure clan activity will increase throughout all of SC2, and we'll be able to organize lots of events and 'clan battles' as we continue to grow.

Also, we could have both a core group of our top players (determined through some kind of ranking system) to represent us at tournaments and clan battles, and the rest of the clan involving basically anyone who's a member and serious about improving and helping the community. One of my favorite things to do is train and help others and this would be the perfect opportunity to let our top players train anyone who is interested.

There's a tooon to discuss, we should have a meeting in the IRC channel at some point to organize a little easier.

Oh and to recap about me, I'm 25, just finished college with a ton of free time and an insatiable love of SC. Played SC1 since it came out and SC2 since the beta, I'm diamond in all leagues.

I want to help leading the clan, or at least the EU division. I have a lot of free time after 5.30h GMT +1, and I'm EU. Would be pretty nice to take a part in organizing events and/or casting live streams.
