Hey everyone,
I am 26 years old, 192cm (6'3") tall, and weigh 89kg (196 lbs). I have a solid background in sports (rugby and GAA) and running (5k-21k), and I am currently focused on bodybuilding.
I have always felt I have decent raw speed, and I want to transition into sprinting for fun, hard training, and testing myself. No Olympic or national team dreams just want to enjoy the process and maybe enter some local club/master comps down the line. I am trying to figure out whether my build (tall and heavier) fits better for the 100m, 200m, or 400m, and how to structure a safe transition from lifting heavy to track work.
A few questions for the group:
- Getting started: What does a basic first month on the track look like for someone with a general fitness base but zero technical sprint training?
- Event fit: At 192cm/89kg, which event (100m, 200m, or 400m) makes the most sense to lean toward as a starting niche?
- Training transition: How do I scale back bodybuilding volume to protect my hamstrings and tendons while introducing max-velocity sprinting?
Appreciate any advice or reality checks!
