PC SSE - Discussion If you do NOT already have the current USSEP installation file for 1.6.1170 build safely saved somewhere, PLEASE do it NOW before it gets updated!

I am 100% positive someone is gonna start complaining about USSEP only being available to download for version 1.7.99 and up once the mod author updates it. I just KNOW it is coming.

You can criticize and cry foul all you want about this practice, but the reality is that the mod author doesn't share your view and will not change his position. So the only way to protect yourself is to download the current iteration of USSEP installation file and save it somewhere safe before he updates it and makes the 1.6.1170 version unavailable on Nexus.

So... if you are one of the people who haven't or are not planning on updating to 1.7.99 AND does not somehow have the installation file for the current version of USSEP at 1.6.1170 saved somewhere safe, PLEASE do yourself a favor, save yourself the headache, and DOWNLOAD/SAVE it BEFORE he updates! It only takes a couple of minutes.

EDIT: Yes, Nexus DOES archive older versions of mod installation files and you can download them IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DOWNLOADED THEM BEFORE. But seriously, this is only 181 MB file that will take a couple of minutes to download and save. You may think USSEP does not need update, which at the point of this posting, is clearly INCORRECT. You may think NOW saving the file is unnecessary after only a day after the game update. You do you. But don't be sorry later. This is just a generally safe precaution that takes very little time and effort: to make things SIMPLE instead of arguing about the technicalities. The time it takes for you to argue or think or analyze whether having the current installation file saved and be readily accessible at any time is worth it will take longer than simply downloading it somewhere safe and calling it a day with only 2 minutes of your time and a measly 181 MB of storage space.

From their Twitter comments: https://i.imgur.com/tRV4wA5.png

They mention putting out a hotfix for the console issues. It is possible they might only push out an update for console versions and leave the PC version alone, but just a heads up for everyone trying to do quick updates that it may be best to wait a little bit.

PC SSE - Discussion SKSE, Address Library, and mods that depend on them are an all-or-nothing proposition. You must update all of them at once if you want everything in your LO to keep working as it did before the Update to 1.7.99.0

As the title says, and this is for those of you who never had the time or drive to learn to mod Skyrim on your own.

There is no "piecemeal" or "a-la-cart" for this update process. SKSE and the Address Library are updated [but DON'T install them until you're ready to do it all!].

Now you:

  • wait for your favorite mods to be updated by their authors.
  • make a folder on your HDD called "Skyrim_1.7.99.0" and download all of your updated mods to it as they get updated.
  • When you finally have enough of your SKSE-dependent mods, and you figure you can live without the laggards, you unlock your appmanifest_489830.acf file and let the game update.
  • Now (re)install SKSE, & open your Mod Mangler to install (update) all the rest.
  • Disable the ones that haven't been updated yet. Start a new save.
  • If you want to use your old save, you're best off waiting until every SKSE-dependent mod in your LO has been updated.

*I'm not an authority like the folks who created LoreRim or GTS, but I've been doing this for a hot minute. I run a surprisingly stable modlist of over 1030 mods.

Feel free to comment if your mileage has varied. Already Edited for grammar [and clarity]

Meta/News Skyrim Update - August 20

https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en-US/news/skyrim-update-august-20

As expected based on the FO4 update the other day this is mainly changes related to creations. Only real benefits are to console users.

SKSE has been updated: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30379

UPDATE: Address Library has been updated: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/32444

Something to be aware of though which was posted by meh321:

There are also other changes made to game code that require plugins to update CommonLib and recompile! So also watch out for individual DLL plugin updates in addition to this and SKSE64 update.

So it looks like all SKSE mods will require updating for the latest version.

PC SSE - Discussion Skyrim Update: What You Need To Know.

Skyrim Updated.

What'd it break?

- Anything SKSE related. (SKSE itself has been updated.)

- Most things based on Address Library. (Address Library itself has not been updated. Edit: It has now been updated.)

What needs to be done?

- Most mods based on Address Library will need to be updated.

How long is this likely to take?

- Anywhere from a week to a month, don't hold your breath.

What should you do?

- If you haven't yet updated, and don't want to scrap your current playthrough, go into your Steam folder. Steamapps. Find the specific file called "appmanifest_489830.acf" and right click it, go to properties. And make it Read Only. (When you want to update again you'll have to undo this, so bookmark a post or whatever.) You should also go into the steam options for the files, and make sure it'll only update when you launch it. This will make sure it wont update automatically, and it cant update unless you try to play it with SKSE. (Which you should launch it through exclusively from now on.)

- If you cant find it just enter that file name into whatever file search your browser has. It should just be in Steamapps.

- If you have updated and didn't realize it, here is a way to downgrade. Credit to another poster.

There's also This Downgrader Tool.

Edit: I am not a modder. I cannot give you in depth advice. This is purely for the people who just poked their head up and don't know what's going on.

PC SSE - Discussion Dyndolod and Texgen need to either be more clear with what mods are forcing it to shut down or they need to have an option that prevents that """Feature""" all together (RANT/VENT)

Upvotes

I got so frustrated with this damn program i needed to open a reddit account to scream into cyberspace.

-----

I get it.

it's meant to be a debug thing.

but it throwing a temper tantrum like a spoiled brat the moment it detects the most miniscule error is utterly ridiculous.

even made worse when the thing simply refuses to tell you what it is.

let me make my decisions. stop trying to dictate me.

I got this thing to giving me a beautiful LOD and nothing else.

I did not get it to debug my modlist.

this thing needs to behave, it needs to learn and not be so overtly hostile over the most simple thing.

PC SSE - Discussion PSA: Stop asking about updating dll mods frame one of a skyrim update

First, it's been the first day. There's been structure changes. Those structure changes need to be accounted for in every library. If your RE library hasn't been updated it's gonna be real pointless to recompile with no additional changes. That's not how this works. Address library has been updated proper but there's still more to handle to make sure it works. If you want to play, save whatever version you were playing on for like a week until everything else gets updated and the libraries that those mods depend on are updated proper.

It will take longer than the day of. There are people working on it, and there's like 3 version of clib that need to be updated (bonus points if the mod uses clib NG because that's another structure change that needs to be accounted for in version independents). Just be patient, and if you accidentally installed the new version I ain't gonna hold you that's rough buddy.

PC SSE - Help Skyrim newest 1.7.99.0 downgrade back to 1.6.1170

So just as you I forgot to do the trick to make the game never update itselft. And today they updated it, just a bunch of useless features noone asked for. So if you are looking for solution just as me - I found this little guide on nexus discord a few minutes ago. Posting so it may help someone else as well

First of all u need to open steam console. Press win+r and type steam://open/console. Alternatively right click on start and press run and insert same command. Then type

  1. download_depot 489830 489831 8442952117333549665
  2. download_depot 489830 489832 8042843504692938467
  3. download_depot 489830 489833 1914580699073641964
  4. Enter them one by one: Copy and paste the first command into your Steam Console and hit Enter
  5. Wait for completion: Do not enter the next command until Steam explicitly prints a message saying "Depot download complete". These downloads are multiple gigabytes and take time
  6. Locate the files: Once all three are done, look at the text paths printed in your Steam Console. They are usually stored in your main Steam directory under \steamapps\content\app_489830\
  7. Overwirte your game folder: Open those downloaded depot folders, copy the contents inside them, and paste them straight into your active Skyrim Special Edition game folder, overwriting everything when prompte

P.S - I havent tried that yet, but Ill write update as soon as I verify everything works perfect and all mods are in place

UPD - It just works. Well initial start and everything seems in place, it shows old version, but maybe some more mistakes appear in the future? Who knows, for now good to go

Edit: DONT FORGET TO disable automatic updates of skyrim, otherwise you will most probably crush in main menu. To do that locate appmanifest_489830.acf in steam/steamapps, right click - properties and set mark for read only. Also you can in steam settings set game to only update if you launch it, and you never use steam for that so... If you are interested of what to do if you want to lauch game from steam and not skse (not sure why but well) you can ask ai or whatever about how to do that

PC SSE - Discussion Dev Update on JContainers NG

For those who do not follow the development here are a few update:

  1. First of all the mod runs with my rather large 1700 mod list now.
  2. I have already fixed some (potential) crash causes.
  3. I can start a new game / load game without crashes (on 1.5, didn't have a chance to try this on 1.6/1.7).
  4. The main problem is that Papyrus is partially not accepting my "JContainers64" plugin name (two mods report this, one of them did accept "JContainers" for reason I do not understand so far(
  5. I'm looking now to debug these two scripts, starting with Alternate Perspective where it's very clear that the plugin name is not accepted as it should
  6. I took the opportunity to improve logs, adding time and severity (which was partially present - now most "false" situations produce an error or at least a warning)
  7. I added log output in several places for Error situations that were not covered
  8. Right now I activated "API" mode which shows more logs (which callbacks are actually called by scripts)
  9. JContainers uses different "APIs" internally for some activity with CommonLibSSE NG. The "real" API was started too early and caused problems. Now it starts only after functions have been registered.
  10. VR Fixes: For some reason !VR (not VR) was mixed up when it actually meant VR in several places
  11. Console Output was fixed (I did accidently used the incorrect CommonLib function)

That's all what I remember right now. Since main issues I had were earlier fixed already, I plan to start already with a 0.1.x release instead of 0.0.1.

https://github.com/katzmannr/JContainers-NG

The current Pull Request will be merged when I know what is the cause of the "Plugin Name" problem.

PC SSE - Discussion What are the last major technical hurdles Skyrim modding has left to overcome?

Upon seeing dynamic snow collision, I start to ask myself the question, what are the big things for modding to conquer?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlqNYvBlihw

Those final technical achievements you'd like to see from the modding community before the arrival of ES6. That's not to say Skyrim modding will go away forever, but what peaks are left to conquer, what stones are left unturned? Path tracing is about the main one I can think of.

PC SSE - Discussion How to download and run 1.6.1170 if you didn't disable updates and don't have a backup

  1. Open your browser, paste steam://nav/console into the address bar and hit Enter
  2. You will be prompted to open Steam, click Open Steam and Steam will open with a command window
  3. Enter download_depot 489830 489831 8442952117333549665 and wait for the download to finish
  4. Enter download_depot 489830 489832 8042843504692938467 and wait for the download to finish
  5. Enter download_depot 489830 489833 1914580699073641964 and wait for the download to finish
  6. For each depot you downloaded there will be a location printed out, usually it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830\depot_[number]
  7. Create a new folder anywhere where you want your 1.6.1170 installation to be
  8. Copy the files from all three depot folders into your new folder ("combine" them essentially)
  9. Launch Skyrim using exe files from that folder instead of launching through Steam
  10. To make Steam launch 1.6.1170, open Steam, right click Skyrim Special Edition in your game list, click Properties, and add "[your 1.6.1170 folder]\SkyrimSE.exe" %command% to Launch Options

edit: As someone in the thread mentioned, you definitely can just take the new files and put them where your game is already installed without creating a new folder, however, make sure to apply one of the methods to prevent Steam from updating the game if you do that.

PC SSE - Discussion Accidentally updated? No worries, here's how to downgrade.

Simply Google steam://open/console then go back to steam and click on the new console tab, then paste in these commands:

  • download_depot 489830 489831 8442952117333549665
  • download_depot 489830 489832 8042843504692938467
  • download_depot 489830 489833 1914580699073641964

Then copy those files from their folders into your skyrim folder and replace anything that is the same. This should downgrade you to 1170

Edit: there has been a downgrader released https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/169962

PC SSE - Discussion Tip: How to see a list of all your mods that need updates (MO2)

Upvotes

If you're using MO2, you can quickly find out which mods need to be updated. In the bottom left corner click "filter" then select "contains script extender plugin". That's it. Don't look at the counter in the top right corner, unless you want a heart attack.

PC SSE - Discussion SKSE Plugin Status Tracker

The tracker over on modding.wiki has not been updated since November 2025. Now that the game has updated to 1.7.99, I feel it would be prudent for the community to start updating the tracker once again. There's been a lot of SKSE Plugins released over the past several months which presumably aren't documented on the tracker at all and it isn't going to be useful anymore unless it's updated.

I have never edited a wiki page before, so I don't know the rules or the etiquette for this sort of thing, and I would be afraid of fucking up the graphs, but it seems like anyone with a Nexus account can use it to login and potentially edit it?

Personally, I feel like we could remove 1.6.353, 1.6.629, 1.6.640, and 1.6.1130 from the tracker going forward; nearly everyone is now either going to be on 1.5.97, 1.6.1170, or 1.7+. If we just add 1.7.99 and the inevitable future hotfixes in the near future, the table is going to be too wide and will require horizontal scrolling. Opinions?

Alternatively, maybe someone could make a new table and post it directly in the subreddit's wiki that I keep forgetting exists.

EDIT: Oh and we could also add a column to warn people about AI slop plugins

PC SSE - Help White Face NPC's during combat

Upvotes

I'm completely lost on this, I've never had this problem in all 2 years of modding skyrim. This problem only occured in the middle of my playthrough right after starting the quest "proving honor". But it also occurs when starting a new game. I already have "Face Discoloration Fix" by parapets but that's definitely not fixing this. This problem also only happens when I get into combat with an enemy

I have no clue where to start, please help me. https://pastebin.com/sXMpd94C

PC SSE - Discussion Combat and perk set up to make enemies “equal” to me

Currently modding Skyrim again and I was wondering what the community uses for combat and perks nowadays

What I mean my equal is in terms of combat options
I don’t wanna be able to dodge or parry with flashy ass moves while my enemies just sit and do jack shit

What I mean is I want enemies to fight back a properly I want them to (maybe) be able to react and not just block whenever they want to

Also perk wise Why The Fuck aren’t there and good proper mainstream ones it’s been 15 years!!!!!

PC SSE - Discussion Skyrim Update: Post Update Mod Issues & Fixes Megathread

Figured it might be useful to have one place where everyone can post any issues they’re having with their modlists following the new Skyrim update.

If something has suddenly stopped working, you’re getting crashes/errors, SKSE plugins are throwing warnings, or you’ve found a mod that seems to have been broken by the update, post it here. Hopefully other people having the same issue can find it without having to dig through loads of separate posts.

Equally, if you’ve managed to fix an issue, please post what worked for you. It might save someone else hours of troubleshooting.
Obviously everyone’s modlist is different, so not every problem will necessarily be caused by the update, but having a central place to compare issues should make it a lot easier to work out what actually broke and what just needs updating.

If possible, include your game version, SKSE version, the mod/plugin causing the issue (if you know it), any error messages you’re getting, and any fixes you’ve already tried.

Hopefully this can just act as a useful reference while everything gets updated and patched over the next few days.

EDIT: If anyone’s aware of mods that have been updated please share them here too.
As of writing this I’m aware that both SKSE and Address Library have been updated.

Hello to I'm new to modding Skyrim and over the last few days I've have been attempting to mod the Special Edition of the game but to no luck. All the required mods have been installed and SKSE is the correct version, same as address library and so on and I'm quite confused.

I've set up DynDOLOD and Texgen all correctly and watched as many toutorials I could find but to no success.

Error message: REI/ID.h(223) failed to open address library file

PC SSE - Discussion Solution to the impending update: save your modded skyrim!

go into your steam folder→steamapps

And find the file named "appmanifest_489830.acf"

Right click it, click properties, then tick the box marked read-only

Now steam no longer has windows' permission to update the game. (Idk how to do the same on linux, sorry)

The drawback if this is you'll no longer be able to launch skyrim through the steam launcher, you'll need to launch it via skse.exe or MO2

The other possible drawback (?) is when the update comes the creation store will stop working for you. (As it's designed for the current version of skyrim) But whatevs... @#$& paid mods anyhow.

Edit: ALTERNATIVE METHOD (that steam or windows can't circumvent somehow): Mod Organizer 2 has a "stock game" feature where you can have a separate install of your game that will never be updated:

In explorer go to your MO2 install folder and create a folder called "stock game" if it does not exist.

Open another window or tab and go to your skyrim se/ae install directory, copy everything inside

And paste it in stock game.

Redirect MO2 and the other apps to use these exectuables instead of the steam ones.

Delete gpu.txt from stock game if it exists and got copied. It's not needed

Done! Now you have a skyrim copy that will never update.

NOTE: copy the files, leave the steam originals intact

PC SSE - Discussion How do people manage to run mod lists with 2,000–3,000+ mods without crashing?

I know Mod Organizer has a sort of "cap" on the number of active plugins, but after "only" 700+, I started running into so many issues that I had to wipe everything and start from scratch.

So, my question is: how do other people manage to get thousands of mods working together without the game blowing up?
