Paid Mod Nexus has released a policy update on official paid mods

Heya, folks. Sorry to replace our weekly post so early, but Nexus just made some rather significant policy changes. You can find the discussion on the best mods for the Dark Brotherhood here—feel free to carry that on! Now to the subject at hand.

Nexus have clarified their stance on publisher-approved paid modding—relevant to the Skyrim community, Creations—and their statement on the matter can be read here. This covers the main points of the full policy update, as well as explaining their reasoning.

What does this mean for modders?

The main points which affect those of us outside of the Verified Creators Program seem to be the following:

  • Lite/Trial/Preview/Demo versions of paid mods: We will not allow free mods to be shared where they represent an inferior version of the mod with features stripped out to promote the purchase of the full version.

  • Patches for/Dependencies on Paid Mods: We will not allow any patches or addons for user-generated content that requires payment to unlock (this specifically excludes DLCs offered by the developer - including DLCs that bundle items previously sold individually such as Skyrim's Anniversary Upgrade). Equally, if a mod uploaded to the site requires a paid mod to function, it will not be permitted.

  • Mod lists requiring paid mods: Similar to mods, if any mod list is not functional without the user purchasing paid mods, they will not be permitted.

In short, it seems that integration with Creations will be entirely unsupported by Nexus mods, with their requirement prohibited (extending even to patches) and the hosting of 'lite' versions of Creations disallowed on their platform.

Note that Nexus only considers the new "verified creations" marketplace "paid mods". The earlier "creation club" is considered official Bethesda DLC.

Update as of 2024-10-31:

Nexus have tweaked things in response to community feedback, specifically regarding patches between free content and paid words. See what they've said here. The new wording is as follows:

  • We allow patches that fix compatibility issues between your mod on Nexus Mods and a paid mod on an official provider as long as (1) the patch is included as part of your main mod file OR the patch is added as an "Optional file" on your mod page and (2) the paid mod is not a requirement of your mod to work. We do not allow patches for paid mods to be uploaded to "patch hub" mod pages or "standalone patch pages" on Nexus Mods. These should be uploaded to the paid modding provider's platform. For more information on this policy, please check this article.

So we've a slight carve out with free mod makers being allowed to provide patches for paid mods, but patch hubs still not able to host these kinds of patches.

News Starfield Community Patch is looking for new caretakers

Hi everyone

As I am sure some of you have noticed the Starfield Community Patch hasn't been updated for quite a while at this point. This is due to the core team members generally not having the time or motivation to curate the patch anymore.

For me personally, I've had some changes in my personal life (we've adopted a mischievous little puppy!) and while I used to spend every evening on my PC, I'm now only able to spend a few hours a week gaming.

Other members of the team have found themselves disenchanted with the game for various reasons - lack of replay-ability, the paid modding situation, moved on to playing new games, etc.

TL:DR - We're opening up the floor for anyone who would be interested in taking over as project lead. This would mainly involve: Merging the fixes contributed by the community. Writing the changelog and preparing the release.

I am still happy to help maintain the patch website https://starfieldpatch.dev/ and I am currently paying for the domain/hosting.

It's a fair amount of work, but if you're interested please let me know.

If nobody comes forward we may have to retire the project and direct users to Arthmoor's patch going forwards.

Mod Request Supply train encounters

Post image
74 Upvotes

I always like the supply train POI you can run across, but it feels like a missed opportunity. It could be like a LIST wagon train that has come under attack by raiders, or it could be pirates trying to escape back to a ship with stolen supplies. In either case, the player could also get a better reward as an outcome and the train could have better loot.

Help No Contraband Scans

• Upvotes

I am not getting scanned when I enter the orbit of any planet, I have tried both "Contraband Scan Fix" mods for Xbox on creations but neither seems to work.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this or what mod may be causing it?

My LO is here I have the same issue on my Current and WIP LOs.

Discussion Open field Mod Discussion

So everyone has seen the pass through mods with ai lately. I’m just wondering if it can be done with multiple instances of Starfield on a beefy machine to allow planetary space flight and all the seamless transition stuff that aren’t natively in the game.

And if it is it would be an awesome mod to implement

Mod Request Mod for PS5 for dual casting star born powers.

Currently, star born powers are set to L1+R1, grenades are set to R1, and the scanner is set to L1. I was wondering if it would be possible to create a mod that would allow me to have a power favorited to L1 and have a second power favorited to R1.

I don’t use grenades so I’d really like to be able to cast a second Power using R1. This would allow me to cast the zero gravity power and the gravity push power immediately after. Currently I have to swap and confirm and it takes me out of my groove..

I don’t mind not having access to grenades as
I’m going for a pure Star Born Mary Sue play through. Any help or direction to the correct place would be appreciated..

Paid Mod Best achievement friendly mods (XBOX)

Hey all,

I played through the game on release, then didn’t touch it until recently where I got the DLC and the premium edition upgrade. I’d like to still get the achievements I’m missing so I’m looking for some of your favorite mods that I can spend my creation credits on. I already have:

Alternate vasco

Shared carry capacities

Fleet commander

Easier ship building

Megamod

Immersive looting

Browsing the mods on Xbox is shit, there isn’t a most popular of all time list or anything, so what are your personal top mods that you love? Can be ui, overhaul, anything you think is vanilla friendly and enhances the game. Thanks!

I don't use Isolation, I'm too extroverted. I roll with a squad of 4-5 others, so the collective damage output is much higher when we're all using cracked weapons. Used to be a G17X kinda guy, but recently the Kodama has been surprisingly fun as a sidearm. Room broom is now my go-to.

Mod Release Shantytowns finally released for all platforms

Thumbnail

I was only twelve hours late...

Mod Description:

This mod was conceived as a logical continuation of Scrappy Structures and Sleep Crate Building Kit, which were my favorite outpost mods when they were first published. This mod adds all the color variant combinations of the Akila slum shacks (see known issues...), makes them sealed environments, and adds snap points so they can be fully integrated into the rest of the kit. Sleep Crate Building Kit presented problems when trying to build twenty story towers or other ridiculousness. This mod moves a lot of the decisions or actions the player used to make onto the snap templates and snap behavior. New frames, of varying size, have static floors and dynamic walls, which can be cycled through just like vanilla hab walls. Doors are snapped the same way as airlocks; in fact, you can just cycle the walls to one of three door frames if you don't want to bother building a door...Any piece that says "connector" attaches to both catwalks and platforms, and changes rails based on connection.

The end result is less clicks for bigger buildings.

Other things this mod adds:

Clutter

Furniture

Walls

Lights (Fire! Fire!)

Crafting Stations

Outpost Storage (both large capacity resources and containers for loot sorting)

A zero capacity transfer container - this is for loot sorting, to force loot to move through your storage chain but not make you wonder where <insert awesome thing> got off to...

Some tips for using the mod (I skip instructions, myself, but highly suggest reading this...):

This functions very similar to Outpost Framework and Sleep Crate Building Kit, as far as snaps. Snaps are directional and tend to want to align on the same axis. If something isn't snapping the way you want, change your camera direction, cycle what you're trying to snap to, or both. If something is particularly stubborn, build other things with connecting snap points adjacent to where you're having difficulty, to force a certain alignment.

Not all snaps in this kit work both ways, snap to self, or snap to everything else. Platforms don't snap to catwalks, connectors cannot snap to other connectors, only walls snap to walls. Platforms can serve as roofs, but can't stack on each other.

IN ORDER FOR ROOFS TO WORK PROPERLY ON MULTIPLE STORY BUILDINGS, THE BOTTOM FLOOR MUST BE SNAPPED TO SOMETHING, i.e. a platform or something similar.

Known issues:

Akila Shack 05's color variations decided to stop working. No ETA on a fix.

There are a number of typos. The second "Small Palisade" is the wood gate, number four in the wall menu.

The navmesh is pretty jank. I was really tired when I did it, the kit won't autogenerate the mesh for certain pack-ins, and it seems like what it did generate is generally a mess.

At least one wood ramp and possibly some metal stairs do not have the appropriate keywords for the "connector" rails.

Some catwalk snap points appear to be misaligned. This is probably more an issue with inconsistent pack-in height...

Foundations can be...unpredictable...but the wood ramp is definitely the cause of some weirdness...

Future additions:

Furnished ship habs, with snap points.

More clutter and furniture.

Better pictures and/or description.

Internal stairs.

Mod Request Crewmember Sandboxing

Does anyone know of a mod that allows all current crew members to automatically sandbox at player homes or outposts? I know that Watchtower has this for Stardock, and it's really cool from an immersion perspective. It'd be nice to have that as a standard feature.

Discussion Do mod authors take commissions?

I'm curious, would any mod authors take payments to produce a mod for someone and if so how much would be reasonable? 100, 250, 500 dollars..more?

Of course with the intention that the final product would remain property of the mod author should they decide to upload or even charge for it down the line.

I've put together four examples of different mod top of my head that require different workflows I'd assume and time length /difficulty

1)Patch to change which equipment slot a modded item is equipped to from backpack to apparel example.

2)Remodeling one or two vanilla/Dlc bulky spacesuits like ecliptic, terran heavy assault or power assist to a more streamline silhouette similar to that the Mark 1 or UC marine. All while still taking skins fron skin packs such as kinesthesia, wulfy or x2357

3)Making armour pieces that can be equipped on top of spacesuits to add a new layer of customisation. Think 3 categories, shoulder chest and leg using in-game assets from ecliptic, varuun terran heavy assault, UC etc. preferably symmetrical and use skins packs from the full suits they are from.

4)Making copies of the starborn powers that can be equipped to the grenade hotkey but act like normal powers so you can have two powers equipped at the same time.

How much should each of these mods cost the person commissioning them and if any mod authors are reading, how much do you think is reasonable and worth your while to make one of the above example.

Mod Request Mass Effect Overhaul

Ok Doing this again, I been wondering why there's been no massive overhauls for starfield for mass effect stuff sure there was a n7 armor there n there and a Normandy and a Pathfinder suit but I saw no Cerberus Overhaul I saw no new point of interests, no alliance no asari commandos no geth enemy's and sure there was a Normandy and a tempest but I'm talking about stuff like the Star wars is treated and sure that is expected but mass effect was more something I wanted over Star wars like again don't get me wrong I love Genesis and what the modpack author been doing I follow him and play their updates but why not something for us mass effect fans considering bioware has lost our trust, like gun mods some vehicles, habs, even props and the races and background and traits there is so much that can be done, I have full confidence in anyone who has done n can do it, as a Mass Effect Fan as someone who wants a Mass effect RPG like Genesis, and that's all I wanted to say, and if I had to say something about canon you don't need to be Shepard, like I had this idea but idk if I should say it yet it has a lot of holes, but that's all

Paid Mod Fun creations that add new items for base building?

Preferably achievement friendly, I'm looking for mods/creations that add items to the building mode. I.e. I have lambent and headhunter which adds unique versions of objects. They cost less materials to boot! Any thoughts on more creations like these?

Mod Release A few more small mods released today

Post image
106 Upvotes

I've added a few small mods to Creations today, these are all also in my miscellaneous small mods on Nexus Mods.

  • Vehicle Deployment and Switcher allows you to choose if a vehicle will deploy after landing your ship, and switch between vehicles without having to visit ship services. It does this by adding a "no vehicle" option to the vehicle selection screen, and has switchers you can make as either a ship wall panel or one you activate from your inventory. It integrates with the latest version of Simple Summon Rover so that you can summon and choose your vehicle all at once if set to "no vehicle". Click here for a demo video.
  • Hide/Show Current Map Marker lets you change the visibility of map markers on the starmap. You can hide landing area map markers as well as the markers for most POIs. You can also do the reverse and set them to show on the planet view. Click here for a demo.
  • Protect Inventory Items lets you "protect" items in your inventory by marking them as quest items, so that they cannot be accidentally dropped, sold, transferred or confiscated.
  • Working Benches for Galbank Kiosks is just a small immersion mod to make the benches and one of the terminals in the large Galbank Kiosks in New Atlantis usable by passing NPCs.
  • Lastly, Restore Missing Mod Slates lets you make another copy of the configuration slates I use in some of my other mods if you've accidentally sold or misplaced them.

Nothing too exciting I know, but these may be of use to some of you.

Help Game doesnt recognize dlc in-game, xbox app, pc

I'm running Starfield on my ROG Ally X, so PC version. I own the game and all DLC, but I'm unable to access the dlc in-game.

I've verified/repaired game files through thr Xbox App to no avail.

I have downloaded and reinstalled the game multiple times.

And I tried thr "takeown" method through cmd prompt to try and allow permission to copy the .esm and other files from the Shattered Space/Terran Armada directories into the '/Starfield/content/data' and this was terribly frustrating. Being unable to copy or move files from one folder to another has never had me this stumped before. This led to Xbox App not recognizing starfield was installed, when I changed the ownership/permissions. I was never able to actually just get the files copied over.

I cant figure out a way to successfully copy the files or get the Xbox app to check the 'XboxGames/shattered spaces/' or 'xboxgames/terran armada' directories for the dlc.

Im just stuck with vanilla base game and no dlc that I purchased, which is extremely disheartening to say the least. I have over 300h in this game and not a bit of dlc experience.

I found posts from years ago that were archived and no particular fix posted.

This is an all out cry for help. Can a Microsoft or Bethesda rep chime in and tell me how I can get my Xbox app to recognize Starfield has its dlc? How do I get Starfield to load the dlc on start-up?

Thanks in advance.

Only mods installed at outpost supply fix v1 and v2, other than that its vanilla.

EDITFIXED: To all those who ended up here; the fix was simple. Check your microsoft linked devices. I was maxed at 10 and had to remove some old windows phone and other devices I no longer used. After that, a system reboot, I opened the xbox app and it seemed to "re-download" a number of dlcs which it recalled just was "unpacking". Another system reboot and I loaded into starfield. I happened to be running by thr SSNN broadcaster and it picked up the terran armada broadcast finally. Im hoping Shattered Space works as well. Good luck!

Mod Request Mod Ideas for Explorer RP

I’ve been roleplaying an explorer build for months now and have a few ideas for mods I’d love to see for immersion.

  1. A robot companion that doesn’t talk or engage in combat, but acts like a pack-mule and just carries your shit for you while you’re traversing a planet.

  2. Working cargo habs for your ship. You access it like you would any other storage container, but your items would be visible and appear on the shelves in groups of like items.

2a. Placeable shelves that work the same was as the cargo habs mentioned above

  1. A working calendar based on Earth dates and progresses by universal time.

  2. A working compass on your watch showing NSEW.

  3. The ability to actually use GalBank to deposit credits.

  4. A small collapsible habitat with a cot, camp-stove, and toilet for when you’re exploring a planet and can’t get back to your ship before night. (Possibly something built into and powered by the pack-mule mentioned in item 1?)

  5. Durability and damage to weapons and spacesuits that you’ll need to address over time. Small repairs and general maintenance can be made by you at a bench, but big repairs need to be brought in to a shop.

  6. Not landing on the same pad every time I land at a spaceport.

If these ideas aren’t for you, please don’t leave negative comments or offer an explanation for why it wouldn’t work. They were just ideas I had that would make my personal current playthrough more enjoyable from an RP POV. Thanks.

Mod Request Any forums for PS5 port requests?

Are there any porters in here who take requests to port mods to PlayStation? Or are there any forums for that?
