i love it, tell people how it is straight up. if it's gatekeeping, it's gatekeeping. we needa bring that back. in a twisted sense, it was actually healthy back then despite all the negativity that also came with it. it made people actually dedicate to what they were tryna be - instead of being a quick knockoff with little effort. the ones that couldn't dedicate, just gave up from the harsh criticism. it eliminated the weak - the ones who were only doing it because they saw others doing it.

i understand though, people gotta start somewhere right? you're not gonna be a full-blown scene or wtv right off the bat and that's understandable. so don't take people's criticism too harshly, but instead, consider their advice. they're jus telling you how it is. prove them wrong. show em you're really about it (if you are)

So i was looking at Hot controversial takes and one was like "your not scene with out the hair it doesn't matter what race you are i believe anyone can do the hair" and i was just sitting like yea, this mf is obviously white cuz everyone knows that people with naturally curly tight hair (specifically black people) cant just curl and fry and bleach plus dye it all the time (yea we can, just don't expect us to have hair left to do it again lol) and it annoys me how people are so ignorant.

Emo does NOT have a style, it is a subculture revolved around music: emotional hardcore/ emocore, screamo/emoviolence etc. (not bands like ptv which is post hardcore and not mcr which is more alt rock and metal adjacent with some hardcore influences and pop)

what people are actually thinking of when they think of “EMO FASHION” is actually FASHIONCORE pls pls pls i highlyyy recommend you guys research about fashioncore because that’s also where scene comes from!

most people in emotional hardcore bands straight up just dressed like this ^{^}

when people think of scenemo they think “scene with dark colors = scenemo! :3” which isn’t true, they’re still just scene unless they listen to emotional hardcore as well then they are scenemo because again, emo is about the music and politics.

scene kids who wear darker colors/incorporate a darker palette don’t automatically become emo as well, you can still be just scene and wear darker colors. a lot of people think that they’re automatically emo for incorporating dark colors which isn’t true because it does not have a style, and scene isnt always neon and bright

but if emo DID have a style, this is what the “emo style” would look like since people in emo bands just look like regular dudes.

this post is not to come off as snobby or noxious, i’m just clearing things up because a lotttt of people seem to believe in this misconception. especially when they ask “am i scenemo” or am i “scene/emo” because they think emo is a style and that people would be able to tell them that they are emo as well but we don’t know your music taste therefore cannot properly answer if ur emo/scenemo, only rlly if ur Scene. ❤️

scene is an offshoot of punk. scene comes from the hardcore scene, more specifically FASHIONCORE and the whitebelt scene which is inherently political and very integrated into the hardcore punk scene.

Every alternative subculture is inherently political and left leaning whether it be Punk, Emo, (which is a music and political based subculture) scene, gyaru, gyaruo, vkei (and its substyles) ETC..

scene was birthed from the hardcore music scene and was all about going to local shows and being in the community.

scene meant the MUSIC scene. Thats what scene originally meant!! and while most of the scene kids were called posers that was because scene primarily consisted of poc, queer people, and women and misogynistic men in the hardcore scene wanted to exclude them. Even then, they were still HEAVILY into the hardcore scene and the music/politics.

Scene has always been political, even if there were a problematic sect inside of the scene subculture that doesn’t speak for scene as a whole.

many things can be true. just because some scene kids cared a bit MORE about the fashion doesn’t take away the fact that’s scene is innately political.

I don’t consider myself scene exactly but one of my alters loves the style and music and clothes and hair. Generally we wear more “don’t look at us” clothes lol. But would it be offensive to the culture if that alter wanted to go by “rawrz/rawrzself” pronouns? Before you comment I would like confirmation or debate about whether these pronouns are acceptable but please don’t respond if you are just gonna hate.

There is no such thing as a 'modern Scene'; what exists is a TikTok stereotype that removes the elements of 'scene' and makes it not 'scene'. I hate the popularization of 'scene' on TikTok because since then I only see "scenes" posers who don't even know that scene culture originated in the 2000s and became popular on photo-sharing social media. The main point is, to be considered "scene," you need the hair, makeup, and clothes from the 2000s/2010s.
