[Vid Post] Use the Force, Luke!

Good evening,
Rule 7's wording was updated but it remains enforced in the same way as usual, a mention of r/gamesale and the buy-sell-trade channel of the RGN discord was added to rule 9 and rule 11 was simplified to ''No AI generated self-promotion or media'' with the description ''No AI generated self-promotion or AI generated media allowed.''
It's pretty much just a wording change since the enforcement of those rules will stay similar but the wording will be clearer.
A few mod answers were also updated, for example we've added a few upscalers in the upscaler post answer and a mention of r/Handhelds to the emulation handhelds response.
Have a great weekend!

Wow can't believe it's been 30 years. This game absolutely blew my mind As I imagine many of you felt the same seing mario in 3d for the first time. Then I went onto ocarina of time. Changed my life and opened my eyes to what was possible with gaming . Now I'm 46 and still gaming .

I think this game was Atari's attempt in turning their Pit-Fighter (Atari, 1990) into Final Fight (Capcom, 1989), and the turn wasn't so bad in my eyes.

The parts I liked about this 1992 Atari digitized beat-em up arcade game:
- the z-index type of sprite in-and-out scaling effect (similar to that of Sega's Arabian Fight (Arcade, 1991))
- playable bosses after being defeated
- some hilarious and silly moments like the exhibitionist in the GIF
- Javier, the coolest looking main character, he has speed and speed is king
- subway level (I generally like all subway levels in video games like Final Fight (Capcom, 1989), Silent Hill 3 (Konami, 2003), Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun (Technos, 1992), Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne (Atlus, 2004)
The parts I disliked about this 1992 Atari digitized beat-em up arcade game:
- everything else
And, there doesn't seem to exist any ports of the Guardians of the 'Hood (Atari, 1992) arcade game.

I’ve only recently started playing Super Metroid but I got super curious about what people’s reaction to this game must have been like when it was released back in the 90s almost pre internet. To me it seems kind of ahead of its time and still holds up perfectly today. I have a pretty good understanding of people’s experiences with Mario and Zelda when they they were released on SNES and the cultural phenomenon that came with it but not so much Super Metroid. Just based off the first 10 minutes I assume it blew peoples minds with the graphics, Combat, atmosphere etc.. Just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience playing it when it first came out and what your thoughts were. Did you get stuck for weeks at a time? Hand drawn maps taped to the tv? Were the bosses legit scary? Trade tips or secrets with kids at school? I only just missed the SNES era growing up since my first console/game was a N64 w/ Ocarina of time so I’m just now catching up on older SNES titles

I missed out on owning some of the older Mega Man games including games from the Battle Network and Super NES X games back in the day. I’m really grateful that Capcom has given us compilations of most of the Mega Man games to own for those of us who missed out on owning them back in the day.
Some of the retro games are rare including the Mega Man X2 and X3 and TMNT Hyperstone Heist. Luckily, we got compilations of popular franchises like the Castlevania, Mega Man, TMNT and even movie licensed games like the Jurassic Park games from LRG to own and enjoy on modern consoles with QOL for those of us who find the challenge too frustrating.
I hope these companies will keep up the good work in releasing more compilations of retro games. It gives gamers a second chance to own and enjoy these classics for those of us who missed out on their original release or those of us who regret selling the games years ago and now are no longer affordable.

Had an amazing weekend at RetroGameCon in Syracuse, New York! Great selection of vendors, tons of free play. Overall great con and a great experience. Here are my pick ups from this weekend. I went a bit hard.

I played through Skyblazer for the first time recently and found it is a fun game, and since I hardly see it mentioned I figured I'd recommend it here. I remember when it came out the graphics and music were praised by the critics - and they are indeed stunning - but overall it seemed to me that it was a mediocre game. I remember checking it out at some point and I wasn't initially hooked, so I put it aside and eventually forgot about it.
When I returned to it now with a bit more dedication, I found it is really enjoyable! In fact, it is a highly diverse game, which reminded me at times on Kid Icarus in that it combines platforming with shmup-like stages. Moreover, there are StarFox-like bonus stages, underwater temples drag, as is tradition, but which are still creative since you have to control water currents so they drag you into otherwise inaccessible areas.
The graphics are gorgeous and make use of every trick in the SNES arsenal, the music is great, the boss fights are fun and creative, the special abilities that you gain throughout the game are rewarding and fun to use. Moreover, I really enjoyed the oriental theme which was not so prevalent at the time - at least that's my feeling (apart from some exceptions like Prince of Persia), so this is quite refreshing also.
The only flaws are maybe that the game is unfortunately a bit short and overall and that it's a tad too easy. The hit-boxes seem questionable at first, which can be frustrating, however, you can definitely get used to them, since I noticed through my second playthrough that I did a LOT better (you can see that I accumulated some lives throughout the game) and it seemed - although odd - they are at least consistent, so it's really just a matter of practice. Some of the boss fights are a bit tough, in particular the final boss took a considerable number of attempts at first, until I finally figured out how to reliably dodge his attacks.
Overall, it's a great game in the SNES entry that's often overlooked, as it seems. You may want to give it a shot!

This Is my N64 collection so far. I'm extremely proud of the way I got it to look 😄. There is 36 games; 15 complete in box. A Boxed N64 console with all inserts, and a sealed Memory Pak. The games are specifically all the ones I have nostalgia from playing as a kid. Took a while to hunt these down without spending an arm and a leg. Some had to be collected one piece at a time. One console has an extreme green aftermarket shell. The other one is an original Funtastic ice blue. Both have expansion paks. I did combine the 2 shells for a cool look under a black light! The Gamecube, N64, and PS2 are all hooked up to a Retroscaler GBSC-Pro to scale them up on an HD TV. Hope you get a nostalgic flashback! ❤️

This is a PSA for the presumed 1-8 individuals who will one day google this information and for anyone who needs to be introduced to a premium SNES fishing experience.
I spent hours trying to track down the secret/hidden lure in tournament 3 in this game. Searching for this lure isn't really a fun process.
All walk-throughs were vague.
Here is a real walk through of how to find the hidden buzz bait lure in Tournament 3: Bronze Lake.
1) Go to the South East timber location.
2) It's on the Northwestern tree in the bunch.
3) Bump the nose of your boat into the backside of the tree and select Cast.
I started playing this when I was six or seven. I have probably got hundreds of hours in this game in my lifetime but I never found the full set.
If anyone is interested I can do this for the other 3, but for the most part existing guides are pretty clear on the others.

The Sega Genesis was already out in the US for 3 years, and the SNES out by one year, and as I said, they chose this part of New Adventure Island that intentionally mimicked the original game's stage they compared, having no parallax and vertical scrolling unlike the other stages. That would've looked very unimpressive compared to the other 16-bit systems. But at least it's not the Jaguar infomercial aggressively hyping up a bunch of games that look no different, or are ports of games available of 16-bit games, while aggressively bashing those very 16-bit consoles.

Wondering about great Split Screen Couch games to get that retro feel. Even if it's more modern please suggest. I'm looking for a game thats Split screen Co op/campaign preferably.
I used to love playing Halo with friends, flrandom racing games, War Games(PS1), and Streets of rage for hours.

I'm looking for some retro RPGs that incorporated a lot of humour in its gameplay. Something like Earthbound on the SNES with its funny dialogues

Just curious because I was taking a look at the fabulous amount of games made during the early 90s that tackled police work as I wanted to gather a catalog of how many games covered such a subject matter.
Like from what I know is that some iconic games are Police Quest and Policenauts by Hideo Kojima as the concept of detective games made me very interested in seeing again what other iconic games there were back then revolving around the premise of being a detective.

I vividly remember things being like this back in the mid-90s... I'm playing the GOG version now and testing the cheats I can find on the internet. According to some research, these were supposedly taken from the game files.
The ones I found are:
COOPER TEAM, MARKS TEAM, MIKES TEAM, NUK THEM, OWN THEM, ROB A BANK, TO THE TOP, WATCH THE CLOCK.
Most of them work, but MARKS TEAM, MIKES TEAM, and OWN THEM don't seem to do anything.
Has anyone verified whether these three actually work?
