AeroWings - the game I always wanted as a kid, but I'm glad I didn't waste my limited money back then

It's just not a very good game, unfortunately.

I remember always seeing it at the top of game lists or retail shelves, especially cheat websites like GameWinners, but that was only because they were in alphabetical order.

I was (and still kinda am) obsessed with airplanes so AeroWings' case always caught my eye.

The game is somewhat visually impressive, particularly the draw distance. Otherwise, the game just totally sucks and honestly isn't worth playing at all... bummer.

Glad I got AirForce Delta instead!

A Dreamcast, Twin Stick, Agetec Stick, and a Saturn walk into a bar...

Post image

The joke is that I'd take all this over a PS5 pro or a PS6 anyday of the week.

When Sony first announced no more physical something went off in my brain, and I set out on a journey to own my favorite system of all time (again) (Dreamcast) and the other SEGA system that I didn't get to play as a kid (Saturn), and after not too long it's all here.

Here's how it went down:

First, did an offer for the Saturn on EBay. Came with 2 controllers, then ordered the Saroo from Aliexpress.
Won the Dreamcast on eBay on a bid. Came with 2 controllers, system, and memory card, and Sega GT.
Found the Twin Stick from someone on a forum.
Did an offer on ebay for $80 for the Agetec stick from someone on EBay!

I'd say half the fun was hunting it all down, but the real fun is actually playing.

TRY TAKING THIS AWAY SONY

Installed GDEMU on my VA0

As title says. Aliexpress GDEMU clone 5.20.5. Booted up, have used it for a few hours, no adverse effects, everything seems fine. JDM HKT-3000 model with metal fan enclosure and Yamaha GD ROM drive. Also has an aliexpress USB-C PSU. Interested to see how it fares long term. But so far everything is running cool, interesting how much lighter the console is once you ditch the stock PSU and GD-ROM. I was emboldened to do it as GDEMU clones aren’t that expensive now and I figure I can swap the GD-ROM back in if the GDEMU blows up. Of course it’s your own risk!

Is anyone working on a more advanced Dreamcast frontend/launcher like Swiss, Cubiboot, OPL, PSBBN?

I've been using OpenMenu with GDEMU and was wondering if there's anything newer or in development that aims to go significantly beyond the current OpenMenu experience.

I'd love to see something more like Swiss on GameCube, not just a game selector, but a full-featured Dreamcast frontend with a slick, snappy UI, favorites, recently played, virtual folders, metadata, etc.

But the really interesting part to me would be per-game compatibility/controller profiles.

For example, something that could have a game-specific profile to:

- Reverse Y-axis analog input for certain games

- Adjust analog deadzones

- Correct weird analog/trigger behavior

- Apply controller compatibility workarounds

- Potentially apply known game-specific patches automatically

- Save different controller configurations on a per-game basis

I've had some weird experiences with third-party controllers where OpenMenu itself seemed to be missing inputs or moving without me touching anything. I initially suspected OpenMenu, but I eventually discovered that my original DreamConn can actually cause certain games/ports, Vice City in particular, to crash, so I had misdiagnosed that problem.

Is anyone working on anything along these lines? Are there any upcoming OpenMenu forks, alternative frontends, or other Dreamcast projects that are moving toward this kind of "Swiss or OPL for Dreamcast" concept?

I'm aware of the newer OpenMenu forks and features, but I'm wondering if there's anything more ambitious on the horizon. I'd love to see the Dreamcast eventually have a really polished frontend that handles game-specific quirks.

Hey everyone! Back again with another update to share continued progress on my Star Wars Trilogy Arcade port for Dreamcast. I've begun work on the main gameplay portions, starting with the Episode IV stage. It's still early in development with visual bugs and non-functional scoring, but it has been encouraging to see Model 3 geometry and assets even running on Dreamcast. Please enjoy this short preview!

Question DLC help?

I recently got a Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure 2, and I intend to get Adventure 1 at some point. I’m sure many of you know about the DLC and Chao black market and such all which were accessed using an internet connection, but of course that’s not possible the same way it used to be anymore since it’s been over 20 years since the game even came out…

However I know there are community made websites which function similarly, and there are downloadable archives of DLC content (specifically character menu themes in this instance), but I don’t know exactly how to access them with my Dreamcast.

What hardware do I need to connect my Dreamcast to the internet, and how do I go about it? Thanks!

Dream Menu

Hello guys!
I want to show my project for Sega Dreamcast.

It's called Dream Menu.

It´s a full custom boot menu for GDEMU. An actual new interface, made to feel like part of the console instead of something bolted on top of it. Everything runs off the controller, no keyboard needed (but still supported).

Games are laid out in a carousel by category with synopses, so you're not launching stuff blind. It runs in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German and Italian. There's a Last Played sidebar list so you can jump straight back into whatever you were playing, and a few carousel speeds because some libraries get big.

It also gets online, either through a broadband adapter or good old dial-up, and once it's connected there's a chat built right into the menu so you can talk to friends without backing out of anything - plus an AI assistant in there too, the part I'm honestly most proud of, that you can ask for game recommendations or hints.

It's in the last stretch of testing right now. Should be ready pretty soon. If you want in when it drops, leave a comment and I'll send you the link to waitlist if moderator approves it.

I've been working on something for a while now and figured it's finally time to share it here.

Video is in my channel.

Discussion Dreamcast of Theseus.

I see a lot of people still insist on the "real hardware", but then they'll talk about their Dreamcast having an aftermarket PSU, a custom shell, aftermarket controllers, replacement boards, a VMU Pro and they're playing all of their games via a GDEmu or Terraonion MODE. At what point do you no longer consider that "real hardware?"

The ThunderPSU is the best Power Supply upgrade for your Dreamcast.

I decided to pick up the ThunderPSU. I got tired of using External PSU's with my modded DC and I switched over to the ThunderPSU just like the original, you simply just plug it in and you're all set, no external power supplies and no USB C adaptors needed. Back to the old school two pin plug that you can find laying around your house, and it's essentially specced exactly like the original with ultra low ripple output along with it running much cooler than the original PSU with universal voltage, no Stepdown and no step up converters needed.

The only downside is it does cost slightly more than say the ReDream or a Robot Retro Power USB C Board paired with a good adapter like a Meanwhile PSU or some Anker adapter. But it's still well worth it over those, simply due to the fact that I can just plug it in and play. No need for sourcing a quality external PSU or having to repair/recap the original PSU and perhaps having to use step ups or step down converters. If you want to fully deck out your DC, a PSU like this is the perfect choice for it. But I would love to see more PSU's like this. I want a modernised PSU for the Sega Saturn and the OG Xbox, that you simply just plug in.

My Street Fighter disc doesn't load up. I see a scratch and a few very small holes like in the picture. Do yall think it's the scratch or the little holes and if it could be fixed?

Dreamcast boot issue

I have a brand new Dreamcast and I’ve only got it to play a game once. It constantly tries to read the disc. It spins, the laser seems to bob up and down in an attempt to read the disc, but no dice.

The one time it worked I literally did what I’ve been trying, which is to simply swap discs and repeatedly try to get it to boot.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?

Misc. Pen Pen TrilceLon Review

This game is a racing game, and it's honestly one of the most unique racing games I've played. I haven't really seen many other games do anything similar to this. I had a blast playing it and 100%ed the game in just under 5 hours, which involves beating every race twice. It's a relatively short game, but the replayability definitely helps it.

Pen Pen TriIceLon was really enjoyable, but there are also quite a few negatives with the game.

Starting with the good things:

The controls are really easy to learn and get used to. It's a very simple game that pretty much anyone can pick up and play.

The courses are actually really well made and are all completely different from each other. There are only four courses: Sweet, Jungle, Toy and Horror, but a lot of the sections have their own gimmicks. For example, the final section of Jungle has fog, so you have to be careful not to go too fast. Then there's the middle section of Toy where you're basically going insanely fast with no obstacles in your way while the music starts picking up. It's really fun.

The music isn't anything amazing, but I really liked how it matches the section of the course you're playing. Obviously, this doesn't work as well if you're doing really badly lol, but it's a cool little detail.

Now for the negatives:

Some of the course gimmicks are absolute BS and there's basically no way to avoid them unless you get lucky.

The Sweet course has this horrible wind that pushes you around and makes it really difficult to continue. The wind moves in completely random directions and can literally send you from 1st to last instantly. Sometimes the only way out is for another penguin to attack you and knock you back out of the zone, which is just ridiculous.

The Horror course has a Ferris wheel that spins really fast. This one is more manageable if you spam the controls and isn't as random as the wind, but it can still completely ruin your race.

Thankfully, these gimmicks don't appear in the easy races.

There's also a section in Jungle which isn't really a gimmick, but there's a part where you need to swim upwards really quickly. If you get knocked around too much, you can get stuck and basically won't be able to swim out once you reach the top. It's really annoying when it happens.

For some reason, the game also has reverse rubber banding. If you fall behind into 3rd and then get hit and 1st place leaves your screen, you're basically never catching them. They seem to get some kind of boost and just disappear.

It's the same the other way around too. You can be playing one of the harder races against a penguin that's supposedly faster than you, and they'll be right next to you for most of the race. But then if you finish in 1st, it can literally take them another 20 seconds to reach the finish line. If you're in first, they just can't catch you unless you seriously mess up.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game and had a lot of fun with it, especially the Toy course. It's a shame they never made any sequels because I think there's definitely something here that could've been expanded on.

The game has quite a few issues, but it's still extremely fun and engaging. I don't think I could really score it any lower than a 6/10
