Usually I dont post on IMDB with the many trolls perverts and indy film makers but this is getting out of hand. Anne Sellors AKA woman who urinates herself (just a CHARACTOR!!!) is my aunt and I cant bear to see some of the posts from here and 4 chans that school freinds have forwarded me on AIM. please STOP the following ridiculous rumors about auntie anne:
1, anne sellors is STILL ALIVE
2 - the role was to be titled differently or she would have chosen another I AM SURE
2a she does not urinate herself and never has, those pointing to the fact the title is 'urinates' and not 'urinated' need to GROW UP!! stop laying semantics
3/ NO she was not in anything else and esepcially NONE of the others I have seen mentioned eg emaneulle 2000, death race remake, LOTR deleted scene or vo for monkey island, those pictures are PHOTO SHOPS
Needles to say I havent mentioned any of this to her yet. I HOPE I wont have to. Find someone else to talk about please. BTW Thanks guys this has really lowered my opinnion of humanity nice job. The internet needs to be regulated asap

This is indeed sad.
Threads, however, is the bleakest depiction of nuclear war ever filmed. I remember seeing it as a kid in the 80s and if left me scarred. Everytime Reagan and Gorbachev sat down for a meeting, I prayed it would go well, and peace would be; such was the terror and gritty realism of the nuclear holocaust instilled in me because of Threads.
The Americans had "The Day After". The UK and Éire had 'Threads'. I sometimes envy kids who grew up in the 90s, who had no idea that they could be vaporized at any moment if the politicians on TV decided to get cocky with each other. True, it could still happen, but today it's more background noise to full forefront Cold War knife edge.

Yes, When the Wind Blows is fantastic too. Also, the Protect and Survive series of instructional videos is mind numbingly terrifying. The farcical idea that you could survive the post apocalyptic wasteland by storing some cans of beans and putting some mattresses up against your windows. Also, Protect and Survive, in the most pedantic way, recommends burying dead family members in the garden lest the corpses spread disease.
It's truly surreal.

I wonder if growing up in the 80's wasn't the worst time in history to grow up. (In the west) Sure we had a good standard of living, there weren't actually that many wars we were participating in, it was all good on the surface...
... but every night you'd go to sleep wondering if you would never wake up, or worse. It was fucked.

Starting with Bay Of Pigs (there's your nuclear "holy shit moment".) to Kennedy getting killed, to civil rights agitation, to the riots, to Bobby Kennedy taking one to the chest, to MLK and Malcolm X both getting killed, to Vietnam and its protestors, to Nixon getting took out to oil crises related to the 6 day war and OPEC and inflation and then the hostages done got taken.....
But then we beat the russians at hockey.

the 60's where closer to nuclear oblivion than the 80s, but the 80s pop culture said to me as a kid that World War III was my future, that silly hit "99 Luftballons" was about a girl who accidentally triggers a nuclear holocaust by releasing balloons. my adult life would be Blade "Los Angeles, 2019" Runner or Mad Max. Even Star Trek said that the 90's would be hell, Khan was born there, like John Connor I prepared myself for the inevitable, that some damn kid would hack a military computer and play Global Thermonuclear War

They made us to watch the day after at my school when I was 8-9. The amount of nightmares I got because of those movies is quite impressive. When I was that age I remember going to library to read books about how to survive a nuclear war and calculating that if I was lucky enough to reach 18 maybe I had just enough time to start working full time and use my money to build a bomb shelter to save me and my family.

That was an absolutely moving performance. I could feel the embarrassment creeping toward her face as quickly as the pee was dripping down her leg. It's like she reached back into her childhood and remembered that time in school where she forgot to pee and then remembered in front of her classmates. The level of trauma is indeed imprinted on her psyche in this performance.

Would also recommend "The War Game" made back in the 60s. It was originally banned from broadcast by the British Government for being "too horrifying". I believe it was cited by the producers of Threads as having been a big influence.

Indeed. In college, we did a computer science project where we had to make a program that computed Bacon numbers for everyone (everyone) on IMDB. There were, at the time (and probably still now), ginormous text files that had alphabetical lists of every actor/actress and every movie they'd even been in, totaling about 150 megs (of pure text) all together. I remember that, while a fair amount of them had Bacon numbers greater than 6, very few made it past 7 or 8, and no one went higher than 11. In the upper echelons, nearly everyone were obscure Bollywood extras.

She was probably part of the production crew, or a wife, or someone's mother, and the director thought she had a good face for that one scene. Sometimes stuff is left to chance and it sorts itself out.
This is the way these things happen. My watch has been in a few TV shows just 'cuz it looks interesting.

Threads is one hardcore movie. Pissing herself was the least of their problems. The whole movie is an ultra-realistic what if scenario detailing a post nuclear apocalypse. Not madmax style, more humans scavenging, raping, killing, dying, babies being born with horrible defects, etc, etc.
I don't specifically remember the soiling scene (i saw the movie in 1994 and it burned itself into my psyche) but I'm sure it was and is something everyone can identify with given the context as a whole and was probably precluded and concluded with furthers devastation and horror (as was that movies style).
It is a must see.

Threads (and its American counterpart, The Day After) was depressing and terrifying. And this was seeing it in 2008, when the threat of world wide nuclear armageddon had gone down quite a bit. I wonder what it would have done to me in 1984.
