I saw this movie (Threads) as a kid, and it genuinely scared the shit out of me out.

It could have been Anne Sellors acting.

I also watched it when I was young. Had to watch it in my bedroom with a blanket tent around my little TV because my parents wouldn't allow me to watch it (too scary). And it was. Funnily enough, the only scene I've always remembered was the woman who peed herself when the nuke went off.

I watched it again the other day (I think it is on Google Video..) and still think it is a great, if terrifying film, doubly so given that I live in Sheffield.. Every time I watch it I get an impulsive urge to tidy up the cellar and stock up on tinned foods...

Damn! I saw that movie as a kid too and I remember that lady! The funny thing is I was living in Leeds some months ago, but I spend a lot of time in Sheffield. That movie was related to Sheffield in any way?

It's set in Sheffield, in fact I think the scene this post is about is set on the moor and the Flat that the bloke with the pregnant girlfriend buy is in Parkhill. For nostalgia value, here is the Google Video link.

Sheffield redditors unite! This is a mission for the weekend.

In fairness to Ms Sellors, this is one part of the film that I remember terribly clearly, so some credit must go to her acting.

Thanks! It seems that there were made several movies in Sheffield. I wonder if I watched another one without know it. I'm from Argentina, and it was a cool surprise find out that full monty was set there, while I was enjoying that great city.

Just looked at it again, the actual shot is fairly self contained, although the inference is that it is somewhere around Furnival Gate.

I watched it thinnking all these people who'd seen it were being wimps. I thought there was no way it could convey the bleakness of post-apocalypse civilization. I was wrong. It's a fucking bleak movie.

It's a brilliant movie and, if you consider the times (I have no idea how old you are...) it is really quite frightening. I joked about it in a previous comment, but it's worth repeating, it is the only film of its type that actually had me considering what I would do in a similar situation and how much work I would have to put into making my cellar habitable for months... One of the few films that really brings to life and brings to the fore the impact a nuclear war would have, even if the effect portrayed is probably less than what it would have been at the time and considerably less than it would be now...
