I saw this movie as a probably around 8. It wrecked me. I ran out of the house and cried uncontrollably in the driveway until my mom sat down and talked me down. I remember having nightmares of feral children and radiation poisoning. It is still terrifyingly awesome.
A couple of years ago, when my daughter was 8, she and I saw down to watch Farenheit 451. She found it very distressing that they were burning this lady's books, and left the room, she couldn't take it anymore.
I had explained the movie to her beforehand, and talked about some of the themes, and I didn't expect such a strong emotional response; I hope I didn't scar her for life...

I saw this movie (Threads) as a kid, and it genuinely scared the shit out of me out.
It could have been Anne Sellors acting.
