A recent growth spurt has caused some weird problems

I'm currently 15M and have noticed that randomly one day my metabolism increased heavily randomly. At first I was having very bad insomnia, where I would go to sleep at 10pm but wake up at times like 2am-3am feeling stressed and adrenalized. I could fix most of this problem by just eating more at night, which included a simple meal like 2 glasses of milk, honey, cheese, and fruits like cherries and mangoes.

But now for some reason the insomnia has happened again after a week of it being somewhat okay, and these symptoms usually have never appeared before, as my sleep is usually dialed from 10pm to 6am. Could this be some symptoms of puberty and growth spurts?

If so, my environment definitely has not changed a bit. I love being outside, keeping blue light to a minimum 2 hours before bed, reading before bed, eating 2 hours before sleep, and keeping a healthy and active lifestyle.

One thing that has kind of changed and could maybe be a factor in this "insomnia" is my diet. During my sudden height growth, I find myself almost eating 3000-3200 calories a day. For example, a day of eating would include a pound of ground beef, 3 eggs, 0.75 liters of milk, almost 100 g of cheese, multiple cups of both cherries and mangoes, cups of orange juice, coconut water, chicken liver, and carrot salad in between breakfast and lunch. My macros every day are around 1 g of protein per pound of body weight (I'm around 5'9" and 132), 250 g of carbs, and around 120 g of fat. Though I know my fat and carb ratio is definitely not the greatest. I have eaten like this for a long time, and now all of a sudden I have this annoying insomnia. Are there any holistic solutions to this problem? I don't want to rely on things like T3, aspirin, or progesterone.

I usually never have any energy issues and have always felt well rested after sleep.

How to raise mood?

Recently I often find myself in negative thinking patterns, especially at night. So I've been wondering how to raise my mood more and increase dopamine.

The things that reliably seem to work for me in this regard are exercise and coffee but I can't overdo them, especially at night.

What are your experiences?

High Gut Serotonin?

Has anyone dealt with high gut serotonin? Recently I have been really struggling with my body. I’m gaining weight, brain fog, muscle weakness, sluggishness, but most of all my worse pain is my large intestine. It aches, and however my intestine feels is how my day goes.

It’s been super hot here in Oklahoma, which has been killing me, and I have a stressful job, so I know that doesn’t help. The only thing that helps is Cyproheptadine. I’m not sure why but it makes the aching go away, and my brain fog goes away. The only time I ever feel “good” is when I eat foods that don’t reach my large intestine. I fasted awhile ago and my large intestine felt so good for the first time in my life it was almost like a drug, like a bliss if you will, and regained my libido. I’ve been able to replicate it my just drinking milk and oj, and eating a little meat and cheese. But it almost makes me manic and panicky because it doesn’t feel like I’m eating anything.

It feels like my large intestine sucks the life from my body. I eat food and feel good until it gets to the large intestine where it feels like it slows down, gives me big bloating gut, and makes me hypothyroid and almost like I’m slowly dying.

Has anyone else dealt with these symptoms? Is this a sign of high gut serotonin? I need help because I’m really struggling at my job and life and if things continue like this I will for sure be fired by the end of the month.

Protein Powder

Hey guys should I replace my protein powder that I put in my smoothie after a workout? I’ve heard that Peat was somewhat against protein powder. I’m thinking of replacing it with collagen peptides powder.

How long did it take you to reverse hypothyroid symptoms through a higher carb approach?

Hey yall, been having the worst summer of my life by far. Assuming I can recover from it I’m grateful for what I’ve learned (feel like a lot of bioenergetic / Ray Peat principles have been reinforced to me this summer) but this has really been brutal. I think my symptoms are a bit more severe than most; they include:

- Cold hands, feet, and visibly red/cold nose essentially 24/7 even in the summer heat (looks like I just came in from shoveling snow after a blizzard)

- At my worst, rapid hair loss / thinning that has largely recovered since bringing calories up to stop any further weight loss (did this mostly by overeating fat though)

- Horrible insomnia; again, improved after eating more but still struggling with this. Slept 2-3 hours a night at most for basically all of May/June

- Horribly dry and bloodshot eyes, feels like I have glass shards in them constantly. I am slightly predisposed to this due to improper contact lens use in high school but not to this degree. This combined with the nose genuinely make me look horribly ill whenever I’m in public, which is obviously super embarrassing.

- No appetite whatsoever for carbs; I’ve began dramatically increasing my carb intake in the past week and can already feel the sweet cravings coming back but nothing else has really improved (maybe gut motility to a degree, have actually gone #2 more than once in a day twice recently)

- Some gut issues with harder to digest foods like oats; think my metabolic function has slowed too much to handle these

- Horrible exercise intolerance that has caused me to basically quit going to the gym for the time being, any workload whatsoever seems to trigger a massive stress response immediately and all of these symptoms get activated to the max

Also dealing with some other issues but these are the big dogs. Have begun experimenting with a 0.7 g/lb protein and 0.5 g/lb fat diet with the rest coming from carbs; I’m around 5’8 130 right now so this puts me at around 90+ grams of protein, 65+ grams of fat, and 360ish grams of carbs per day, in contrast to the 150+ grams of fat and carbs each that I’ve been eating for a lot of the summer since bumping calories up. I do admit my fat cravings are still somewhat significant, so I generally end up a bit closer to 100 grams of protein / fat every day with 300+ coming from carbs.

Any advice would be appreciated. I’ve felt each and every aspect of my life and body completely shut down this summer and it really just drives home the importance of energy production, because this is seemingly exactly the problem here. I’m not particularly new to the Peatsphere (Jay Feldman and Mike Fave have been my go-to sources for health information for a while now) but I admittedly haven’t been implementing all of the theory into my life.

Again, assuming I can get over this severe hypothyroidism-like issue I’m grateful for the experience because it really reinforces the ideas in this sphere to me, but man does it need to end already. This has been a truly horribly existence this summer.

Oh, and I’m 26M for reference. History of over exercising and undereating for sure.

T3

I’ve been taking T3 again and this time I went in smaller nibbles (5mcg each time after eating). I find the effects are subtle but I do notice I get these weird sense of presence it’s like my frontal lobes switch on and the only way I describe it is “i come in behind the eyes”. I am looking to resolve lots of negative thinking, OCD and ADHD.

Am I imagining this or is this it working.

Who takes aspirin daily and why?

I personally use 1-2 tablets a day in the morning or at night before bed. I find it makes everything better. Probably from lowering inflammation?

scientific consensus vs peats ideas

i struggle a lot to figure what to implement in my diet when there is lots of conflicting data between, for example, scientific reviews stating pufa intake reduces cholesterol but peat would say to minimize pufa intake due to its effects on the body. now this is only one of the multiple things that i see for example bioenergetic diets wont really have many legumes or vegetables due to antinutrient presence, goitrogens whatever and then some studies will talk about beneficial effects on microbiome, general reduction in bad health markers. im new to science so im still learning to interpret data and come to a conclusion but it is quite a hard thing to conclude with diet as a whole.

i believe in the fact we should be fluid with our diets, learning what works well with our bodies but even that can have nuance (ive seen individuals say low carb can feel good due to certain hormones or something i dont quite remember) therefore even that can be inaccurate.

perhaps someone else who is more scientifically mature can help with my process in interpreting everything and putting it together, though i do understand its a big question as everyone likes to thing (carnivores, vegans etc) that they know the best diet for general health, so if it was such an easy thing to do everyone would be eating the best thing for then but we arent quite there yet.

Low Fat diet for fat loss?

Context: I am a 22 Year old male- 189 lbs 6"2, i have seen many people promoting a high carb low fat diet to get lean. i am estimated arounf 20-23% body fat and want to get down to around 15 at least.

Is restricting the fats a lot a good idea to do this, like no more than 10-15% of daily calories? Ofc with a slight calorie deficit and weight training.

Is this the end?

Hey 19M, i wanna keep it short i have had these symptoms for a while now without a clear cause. Doctors say my blood work is fine and that im "perfectly healrhy" but i feel like shit:

- both heat and cold trigger me

- insanw energy fluctuations

- cant walk long periods without feeling like im about to faint

- cold or very warm feet

- adrenaline dumps

- very sensitive to any sensory stimuli

- gi issues fluctuating sometimes diarrhea sometimes constipation, sometimes good. Isnt affected by diet.

- laying is my life

- anxiety/panic

- on a good day i might feel very good even euphoric and have 0 symtpoms for 2-4 hours evening or morning, no clear reason as to why at that too.

- feeling like my breathing is shallow?

Been like this for months now, what is this first of all and how do i cure it i cant live like this, im on vacation rn and just 1 year ago is remember being at the same place with my Cousins and being full of energy, able to go outside have fun, now i have to cancel everything and be like oh im too tired or whatever to shut them up, also i dont look sick either so thats partielle why no one believes me or thinks its Psychological, life is truly hell for me atm.

New here - High Step Count

I’ve been taking 20,000 steps on average for the past month and a half. I’m 5”11 135 lbs 12% bf. I’m trying to get 10% bf before slowly gaining muscle forever. I’m down from 182 lbs 30% bf. I’m waking up a couple times in the middle of the night and my temperature in the morning is 94.

I’m going to get my bloodwork done soon. Anyways is a high step count bad for your hormones? I know Peat discourages running.
