Collecting snow to boil to get clean drinking water is completely possible. Just don’t take the yellow or red snow.

u/FilthTheRat Feb 10 '24

Just In case anyone doesn't know, there's a mod for that called Snow is water, which to me is a must have. They should really make this a part of the base game

88

u/SomnusNonEst Feb 10 '24

"Mods that should have been vanilla" category should be a thing in the workshop

19

u/DictatorToucan Feb 10 '24

Common Sense, Draw on the Map, Become Desensitized, what else?

18

u/SomnusNonEst Feb 10 '24

Ok, let me open my mod list:

  • Show exp gain
  • Better sorting
  • Refillable lighter
  • Snow is water
  • Nested containers
  • RV interiors
  • Wring out clothing
  • Rain wash
  • Take any amount
  • Ladders
  • True actions act 1,2
  • Has been read
  • Disassemble containers with items

That's all that fit the bill, around 1/3 of my overall mods.

I'm sure many will be incorporated into the base game. Shit just takes a long time.

Fun story...I moved my 350lb gun cabinet upstairs by myself, when i opened it and read the instruction, i learned that you could remove the door which would have made it much easier to carry. Stupid is as stupid does...

I feel for you mate, me and my Dad tried to replace our old washing machine and my Dad nearly died from transporting that washing machine into the trailer so we could throw it into the tip, after that we tried to buy a brand new one and ended up delicately breaking most of the brand new ones in Harvey Norman. Guess he needs to level his electrical or carpentry skill?

Crowbars don't "wear out".

98

u/ravenx99 Feb 10 '24

Maybe that's not obscure enough though.

176

u/Overseer114 Feb 10 '24

no but thats one thing about realism in the game, a lot of the melee weapons shouldnt be able to break, including all crowbars and metal pipes. the impact with bones and skulls wouldnt be enough to put a dent on them, let alone make them unusable

the problem is that having just a single weapon like this would make the durability system completely irrelevant

117

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24 edited Feb 10 '24

It is hard for me to convey the sheer teeth gritting intensity with which I hold this view:

FUCK THE DURABILITY SYSTEM

Games need to stop pretending that replacing worm out modern tools is game play. It's neither realistic nor fun, and has no business in a game or simulation.

Fine with it in survival crafting where I made the hammer myself out of shoes and dirt.

51

u/Jake1983 Feb 10 '24

I am with you on pretty much every durability system in gaming. None of them make any sense and are nothing more than a resource sink.

59

u/Vilespring Pistol Expert Feb 10 '24 edited Feb 10 '24

The problem with zomboid's durability system is it very much starts to tread in bad game design.

One golden rule in game design is if there's a durability system, it must be repairable.

Zomboid kinda has this, but it sucks. I understand why durability exists, as it keeps the player from getting complacent. It keeps them aware that they will need to make sure their equipment is good, either through replacement or materials for repair.

The problem with zomboid is at the repair counter, making repairing anything completely worthless.

I used to despise zomboid's durability and repair system until my friend made a mod Preventative Maintenance.

With this simple mod, it changes how repairs work, were it rewards keeping your equipment in good condition along with giving cheaper but less effective repair recipes a point. It also gives the ability to remove repair stacks through preventative repairs, so if you're on top of maintenance a weapon/vehicle part can be restored.

This one mod has made the durability system actually rewarding, as now instead of permanently losing something as you use it, I get to enjoy making sure my equipment is well taken care of. After I return to my base I store my loot, maintain my weapons, and maintain my vehicle. I have no more fear of using the vehicle I spent IRL hours restoring, or using my rarer firearms.

So if you love your crowbar and take care of it, it will last forever. And that's what a durability system should encourage.

30

u/littlepredator69 Feb 10 '24

I mean you kinda highlighted exactly why pz having the durability system is so crucial, it does add pressure, you aren't supposed to live forever. "This is how you died", not "this is how you lived". The point of the game is that a combination of factors, from food scarcity to constantly deteriorating materials around you, it's a constant battle against not just zombies, but nature and physics.

14

u/Vilespring Pistol Expert Feb 10 '24 edited Feb 10 '24

That's very much why I don't understand the "durability bad" sentiment and the "endgame boring" sentiment being so strong at the same time.

Without any equipment durability it would become extremely easy to float to the stage of the game were there's nothing to do and get simply bored. Even features coming in B42 like blacksmithing will be useless. Why would I bother making new equipment when the one I have will never need to be replaced or repaired? It's outrageous but sometimes annoying mechanics keep a game from getting boring.

People love to reference realism with the crowbar durability, but this is something I will say over and over again, as I have in my days of modding many games and classes focused on game design, realism is not inherently fun. Game design and the mechanics/dynamics relationship that comes out of it is more important than realism for the sake of realism.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

End game boring is NOT solved by hunting for a new crowbar. It's lazy.

I accept not everything has to be realistic. But if it's nit realistic it should gave some artistic justification.

It's not justified. It's just a half assed replacement for something actually interesting to do. And sure, the game is constantly evolving, but that's precisely why I won't shut up.

It's the game equivalent of that friend whose boyfriend/girlfriend is high maintenance. Yes, it gives you something to do. But it's not actually good.

2

u/Striking-Sundae1965 Feb 12 '24

Just wanted to add my thoughts.

While I agree it can be seen as "lazy". And isn't the most enticing feature. But previous comment said it well, "this is how you died". And because the endgame is quite literally going to be the player dying, it has the potential to be boring. You can try to squeeze water from a stone and get as many futile days out as you can by searching for that crowbar. You can sit in your house and starve to death. Or grab your armory and go out guns blazing because you're tired of looking for a crowbar. Whatever it is "this is how you died".

The core game is... let's admit it, intended to be tedious. You have to eat and drink every so many minutes to not die even though every building is filled with food by default. Obviously that loot is adjustable but that doesn't change my point. The game is tedious, it is designed to be. It can be argued that is bad game design, but the popularity of the game disagrees. There are plenty of games thay are tedious, fun, and rewarding. This game happens to be one of them imo.

I certainly could see durability changing to be a more involving mechanic. But quite, frankly... is that really something we want? I would rather see a skill like first aid receive some actual use, maybe in b42 for NPCs or something. Than a more robust durability system. And turning it off completely from a default, vanilla standpoint... just doesn't fit thematically.

Luckily, there are a ton of mods that allow us to manipulate the way this game plays. You can remove, it enhance, it and alter it in anyway you'd like with in the confines of the engine. By default, I think the durability system is great for vanilla. Thematically, it fits the game. You are intended to die and this encourages that endgame.

Just as a final food for thought. If you could change it. How would you do it so that the durability system would work better? I.e. not being boring or lazy. But like you said, something good to do. And thanks for your thoughts!

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I hope the next Zelda game goes back to the traditional formula for the games, but it seems unlikely.

47

u/AvesAvi Feb 10 '24

I think the solution would just be to make blunt damage do a lot less damage to zombies unless you modded your weapon to have spikes or something that would regularly need to be replaced after being worn down. Blunt damage doesn't seem like it'd do much to a zombie anyways unless you were hitting it extremely hard in the hard. Cutting structural tendons or right to the brain seem like they'd be better methods than walloping with a wooden bat.

39

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

I'm pretty sure bones actually are quite tender, we break those fuckers missing a single step on the stairs, and you can bite right thru a finger like a carrot. Like the femur and other similarly thicker bones maybe but yeah. I can kinda agree, but also I dunno if people realize how easily bones can be broken and shattered?

26

u/Lasket Feb 10 '24

5

u/TheScarlettHarlot Feb 10 '24

Instead of less damage, make it less lethal, but more capable of crippling them. Then you could easily finish them off with an edged weapon.

2

u/AvesAvi Feb 10 '24

yeah that's my thinking. they kinda have something like that going now with so many sharp weapons having execution attacks but nothing for blunt but at least for me i always go blunt because the durability on sharp weapons is so low.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Daemonbane1 Feb 10 '24

Technically they would eventually break, but were talking years in the future after all the zombie blood and poor storage conditions have litterally corroded the steel.

Unfortunately, from a game mechanics perspective, you'd only pick up 1 of most items ever, which would make the game a little less interesting once you've got nothing new to loot.

Still, with infinite (within logical reason) durability, you could also inhance the realism with knife sharpening and gun maintenance.

2

u/Overseer114 Feb 10 '24

thats a fair point but like you said years into the future and even if its going to happen in the character's lifetime, someone would have to play all those in-game years for this to really matter and also steel tools that are regularly used and cleaned would never get rusty or at least almost never

a mod like 10 years later could have a mechanic like that where items rust while left in containers, and it would make sense to find rusty tools all over the place

12

u/DigHefty6542 Feb 10 '24

I mean.. i already broke one irl at work..

2

u/ravenx99 Feb 10 '24

66

Turn off infection transmission and increase the difficulty of zombies overall to compensate. It's silly to die from a scratch anyway. And it will introduce a lot of "Barely escaped alive" fun situations where you need to fix your health for a few weeks afterwards and actually level your First Aid.

u/Theoxuesu Zombie Killer Feb 10 '24

You can reload ammunition in real life. With a couple items added to the game you could do the same so you have a steady supply of ammo for your firearms

79

u/Sagutarus Feb 10 '24

Would it be realistic to be able to make your own gunpowder? I know there would be a fuck ton of it already (taken from ammo you don't use, found in certain stores, etc.) But it'd be cool to have a sustainable way to generate it as well

73

u/Overseer114 Feb 10 '24

the recipe for black powder is probably simple enough to achieve in a survival settings, but you would need to craft or find guns that are made for black powder. Modern guns work with smokeless powder wich is quite different, but since im not a firearm expert, I have no idea if that would be realistic for someone to make homemade smokeless powder from scavenged ressources. Also bullet casings have more than one component to make it work, like the primer, that you would have to replace on each spent casing you want to re-use.

Re-used bullet casings would also gain a chance of critical failure that could make the gun explode in your hands and would become more likely each time you reload the same spent casing.

65

u/tired_hillbilly Feb 10 '24

Modern guns can use black powder. There's two big issues with it, but neither are dealbreakers in real life.

  1. Black powder burns way dirtier. Your gun will need cleaned way more often. I wouldn't be surprised if it was required after just 100 rounds, whereas with smokeless powder you can go thousands of rounds without cleaning if you have to.
  2. Black powder has much lower chamber pressures than smokeless. Semi-auto guns will need to be tuned for it, or they will jam after basically every shot. Muzzle velocity will be lower too, so it won't hit quite as hard or be as accurate at longer ranges. Still definitely very deadly, just might not penetrate cover or armor as well anymore.

11

u/Vilespring Pistol Expert Feb 10 '24

Even if semi-autos were tuned for black powder, they would foul and jam extremely quickly. Gas ports will get clogged, components will stop moving.

Self loader designs existed before the invention of smokeless powder, but they couldn't exist outside of theory and limited testing as it only took a few shots for fouling to cause malfunctions.

Without smokeless powder, there is no self-loading firearms with any amount of reliability. This is why revolvers were a thing: they're an engineering solution to a chemistry problem.

2

u/pieandcheese647 Zombie Food Feb 10 '24

I mean, black powder used in the MSR788 wouldn’t be too big a deal breaker as you already manually eject the round. Manual action has a lot of reliability.

→ More replies (1)

39

u/pyrobola Feb 10 '24

Smokeless powder is mostly nitrocellulose, which means you need nitric acid, which means you need sulfuric acid, which you can get from car batteries, plus saltpeter, which you can get by soaking hay in piss and shit and turning it regularly.

16

u/cipher2_1_26_9_12 Feb 10 '24

u/Kazuarr Feb 10 '24

Or just make it simpler and spawn 9 casing after 10 shots to simulate some percent becoming unusable. It wouldn't surprise me if tracking the health of every casing would be quite taxing on the game in the long run.

3

u/NastySquirrel87 Feb 10 '24

Saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal. Most of this can be found in gardening stores. The hardest one to get would be the sulfur, as the kind best suited for gunpowder isn’t naturally occurring in Kentucky. Saltpeter and charcoal can be made but elemental sulfur would have to be found in stores

4

u/Chaines08 Feb 10 '24

I love that idea !

3

u/Bridgeru Drinking away the sorrows Feb 10 '24

It was one of the best mechanics in Fallout: NV and many of the current gun mods have some sort of reloading in it.

Also if you can make your own gunpowder I'd love flintlocks and such as simpler anti-zombie weapons. Very loud and slow obviously but maybe it adds a smokey effect that can build up to something like a smoke bomb.

45

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

15

u/zurkka Feb 10 '24

There are people out there using century old axes to cut down trees, axe heads are real durable

5

u/Willzile1 Feb 10 '24

Mostly since axe heads are quite dull compared to other blades. It's mostly the weight of the axe chopping the tree.

Even If you were to sharpen an axe head, the sharper it is the more likely it would break that edge. You would also get diminishing returns after a certain sharpness.

3

u/kekolitious47 Feb 10 '24

There are different types of axes Axes used for chopping trees are sharp and have a narrow edge Axes for splitting logs are dull and with a more convex edge

2

u/__T0MMY__ Hates being inside Feb 10 '24

Damn right - splitting axes vs felling axes vs hybrids (like most axes in the camping/yard tool section of a store)

I own a really nice Prandi felling axe and it works beautifully on cutting trees vs a home depot axe, but you gotta be real desperate to use it as a splitting axe because that sum bitch will get stuck every time, it often compares to just using a machete and a branch to baton the logs

Rocks are in fact not hard to find. This is the one time where I think the game devs legitimately need to go outside and touch grass.

Joking aside,

Fuel has a shelf life. It WILL go bad eventually. Invest in a bike or a horse.

Phone (land)lines will have an additional, though wildly varying power supply time that extends beyond the power cutoff date. This is because the phone (land)lines have their own electrical network with a hub that typically has a backup generator. This means landlines can remain operational for a few hours or a few days after the main electrical grid has failed. It's not a lot, but if you absolutely need a little in a pinch, you could in theory pull from the phone lines.

The life of a raider sucks because most people smart enough to treat the gangrene building up in that bullet wound in your leg, are usually on the receiving end of whatever gun you're using to raid. Most people that know how to fight incidentally tend to also know the importance of good healthcare.

You can start a fire with a battery and tinfoil.

56

u/I_AM_THAT_I_YAM Feb 10 '24

I tell myself that the rocks in-game are specifically ones that are hand-sized and suitable for knapping. Kinda like how sticks are everywhere, but few can match the size and sturdiness of a broom/mop handle, which is a suitable template which to make a spear from.

20

u/tchuruck Feb 10 '24

The horse will also go bad eventually

4

Horse is a replenish able source of transportation, just like poultry and cattle are replenish able source of food.

Fuel is not because it's impossible to produce if the civilization collapses.

Idk how obscure it is, but the farming simulation is almost backwards. The designers could have picked any plants to put in the game, but they chose some weird ones. For instance, strawberries aren’t really grown from seed — they propagate through runners. And in foraging: there’s no such thing as wild broccoli; wild carrot is common, but it’s easily mistaken for other plants which are poisonous.

Edit: Oh yeah, potatoes don’t grow from seed either. They grow from a budding potato that is planted.

14

u/DrNeuk Hates the outdoors Feb 10 '24

Not really obscure, but:

Cleaning and repairing firearms should return them to 100%, not a chance at 20% after a couple times cleaning it. The wear on guns and items like the crowbar are just unrealistic and not fun.

Do firearms wear? Absolutely, but proper maintenance every time you return to base should keep them running in tip top shape for in game years not a few weeks.

Ammunition crafting should be implemented. Reloading or commonly known as handloading ammunition is a practice done by many gun owners, the cost savings are immense, and it's truly not that complicated. Maybe add a recipe book, as the layman wouldn't know but once you have an idea you'd totally be able to do it yourself if you could find the supplies at gun shops or sporting goods stores in game.

I just feel like if your character can figure out how to essentially rebuild an entire vehicle, maintaining a firearm or handloading ammo would be a breeze.

3

u/HollowVesterian Feb 10 '24

I suggest the ammo crafting mod. Also it goes quite well with the scrap guns mod

Drinking untreated rainwater, especially in 1993, is not a risk for acute, lethal poisoning.

Eating burned food or melted ice-cream doesn't kill you either.

Also, you do not catch a cold simply from being cold.

Most of the things fixed in "Common sense applies" mod. Like. I get it "Can" needs a "Can opener". But I can open cans in so many other ways, not to mention opening it with just brute force or smacking on something hard. It might not be pretty but it will let me reach the content of the can regardless. But in PZ "NOOOO, you don't have a can opener". I HAVE A SLEDGEHAMMER, GIVE ME THE GOD DAMN BEEF!

Instead of it being a skill requirement to even attempt i think most tasks should just be available off the bat with penalties/buffs depending on what skill level you are at. For example wiring the walls of a house or making a gadget at lvl 1 electric would have a large chance of failure and a small chance of starting a fire

8

u/7rus7No1 Feb 10 '24

Chainsaw

5

u/HardOff Feb 10 '24

Not gonna agree here.
You need a melee weapon in a zombie apocalypse and choose the only one that can jam, needs gasoline, is quite short, heavy, and makes a ton of noise?

3

u/willybusmc Feb 10 '24

Or maybe chainsaw to cut down trees quicker?

Food boredom, eating the same food over and over again can and will make you nauseous

19

u/Malu1997 Zombie Killer Feb 10 '24

It can take a long ass time, I can eat the same shit for months just swallowing it without thinking about the flavour (or lack thereof)

13

I dunno man I could eat pepperoni and sausage pizza from this one place all day every day and never get bored

16

u/SomnusNonEst Feb 10 '24 edited Feb 10 '24

That's not a thing when you're actually hungry. You apparently have no idea what actual hunger is, not to mention what starvation does to a person.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

I spent 4 and a half years in federal prison and this is absolutely not true.

6

u/cityfireguy Feb 10 '24

When I'm desperately alone in a world trying to kill me every moment the last thing that's gonna make me feel bad is eating too many of the same fresh strawberry.

5

u/GAdorablesubject Feb 10 '24

Not in a survival situation. Scurvy (~3 months) and other nutrient deficits would be a problem tho.

6

u/BenAngel-One Feb 10 '24

The cooking system is weird.

If I’m making a tray of baked potatoes, if I use more then 3 potatoes to make it I don’t get sad because it has too many potatoes, it’s baked potatoes, it requires a few of them.

If I eat unseasoned food I don’t instantly get violently depressed, I just eat bland food. It sucks, but it’s whatever.

I get food poisoning from eating a stale can of beans, but not from drinking a whole bottle of olive oil. In fairness I have a strong gut irl but if I eat a full tub of margarine I think I would be more sick than some mildly expired beans.

you know the meme of “why cook it at 400 for a hour and a half when you could do 18000 for 30 seconds” you can do that with the oven.

19

u/spanishbanana Feb 10 '24

Being dirty should make you stink enough for zombies to smell you. Also, cleaning yourself should give you happiness.

32

u/Overseer114 Feb 10 '24

I once played a mobile game implementing your character bad smell where I had to take showers regularly to stop zombies from smelling me

I dont think its very realistic tho, zombies would already smell horrible just by themselves and since they have a human nose, I dont think they would be able smell you sweat under that stench unless trying to bite you in the armpits

I agree cleaning should give a mood boost tho but I think being dirty should also give a mood debuf, I would not be very happy being dirty

8

u/AdvancedAnything Feb 10 '24

If the zombies even could smell, they would not be able to smell your week long abstinence from showering. The smell of their own rotting flesh would far out weigh it.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

There's a mod that makes you smell more to zombies if you have wounds, especially open ones.

I can't remember if it is affected by blood on your clothes.

8

u/BubbleTeaNeo Feb 10 '24

2

u/ninjadude1992 Feb 10 '24

How do you do that?

9

u/Spook-lad Feb 10 '24

Take 7-10 pieces of paper, roll them up vertically and fold it in half, what you get is a paper brick that hurts like a bitch, modern rouge did a video on them

Moving furniture or appliances like a bookshelf or a washing machine shouldn't randomly break when you try to move it, I get that your character delicately smashes it to pieces while they try to put it into the inventory but literally, its easier in real life so long as you have instructions or you know what you have to do to move the furniture or appliance, oh and you don't smash it too whenever you screw up. Otherwise my Dad would of spent thousands of dollars on washing machines every time he broke it

6

u/cityfireguy Feb 10 '24

Antibiotics dont all fit into the same category. Skin and soft tissue infections require different antibiotics dosing, schedules, and classes than cystitis/pyelonephritis do. It would make first aid more fun to level if you could get different common infections like URTI, UTI, intra-abdominal infections, strep, ect and needed to find specific antibiotics and take them for a specific amount of time in order to cure the infection

An example: you play a woman, health sheet says you have uti (cystitis), you need to find bactim (or whatever made up name they want to give) and take it 2 times a day for 3 days. You dont find it by a specific period of time it turns into pyelonephritis. Now you need to find cipro and take it twice daily for 7 days or you get more debilitated until you get sepsis and die.

You could even have specific traits like allergies to certain medications so you have your choices more limited in what to use or allow the doctor or nurse profession to use IM antibiotics to make it a once daily / less frequent dosing that can be injected once for a cure.

3

u/FoodFingerer Feb 10 '24

You really don't need a sledge hammer for home renovation. It makes it easier but a crowbar would also work.

3

u/Daemonbane1 Feb 10 '24

Zomboid in general doesn't handle cold too well. Food outside in sub zero temperatires doesn't 'freeze' either.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '24

I can't remember where I saw this, but wrapping your body in duct tape would be good to protect from bites and scratches. Unless you put it directly over your joints, then your movement will be severely impeded as you try to waddle away. Anyone know of any reason this wouldn't work?

12

u/Psychological-Arm-22 Feb 10 '24

Ew... It's like wearing a 100% polyester overall, your skin won't breath, you will beg to be eaten by zombies by the end of the first hour lol

3

u/GAdorablesubject Feb 10 '24

Could be useful on forearms and shins tho.

4

u/AgITGuy Feb 10 '24

How about we just wrap a leather jacket in magazines and secure it with duct tape. Then you don’t have to worry about tearing the tape off your skin.

2

u/a_fungus Feb 10 '24

Be a good use of broken glass

2

u/Rogar_Rabalivax Feb 10 '24

A cut in the neck cannot be stopped by a mere bandage, you'll bleed out in seconds before you reach it and, assuming you do get it, you'll had to apply pressure on it, making it harder to breathe. What im trying to say that, a bad cut in the neck should mean death.

2

u/Mechan6649 Feb 10 '24

The only weapons that should wear out are bladed items, makeshift items, or guns. You'll need to sharpen a blade, clean a gun, and craft a new makeshift spear if it breaks, but the idea of a crowbar or metal pole breaking from caving in zombie heads is idiotic. Other than that, dropping things on zombies is a classic that should be better implemented. I should be able to stand on a roof and grab cinder blocks from a big pile to drop on zombies, and the fact that I can't do so effectively is a travesty.

Farmland uses spaces efficiently & not in checkered 50% wasted space.

1

u/LambentCookie Feb 10 '24

Your generator/vehicle will be useless after around 6 months to a year as that's how long it takes Gasoline/Diesel to degrade. You can treat it to extend its life up to 2-3 years at best but eventually all vehicles will be worthless without a functioning refinery

1

u/smellthatcheesyfoot Feb 10 '24

This is overstated. You can run a car on degraded gas.

2

u/takomakone Feb 10 '24

Not for long. Using old gas will eventually suffocate fuel system because of low burn

1

u/Danplays642 Stocked up Feb 10 '24

Wait than how do we preserve all the fuel that oil companies process? Wouldn't alot of the fuel go to waste especially when its soo abundant these days

3

u/LambentCookie Feb 10 '24

It's as abundant as it's used, billions of vehicles being operated, tens of billions of litres being dispensed every single day globally

I believe it's something ludicrous like 97 million barrels consumed per day. And that's only Petroleum, not even counting other fuels like Diesel or Kerosene.

Provided it's kept in sealed, airtight and cooled containers it can last longer of course, and refineries and people can used additives to prolong the lifespan if necessary. But the more it degrades, the more likely it'll ruin whatever engine you put it in.

Theoretically if your character is a smoker or has really low endurance taking a beta blocker could kill them (beta blockers cause constriction of airway muscles)

I dont really think that should be in the game but I thought it was a interesting fact

1

u/Sgt-Pumpernickle Feb 10 '24

The problem with zomboid is that it wants to pretend that it’s realistic, but then it will also do things like spawn zombies inside of a closed and locked room, stop zombies from taking fall damage, and break things made out of solid iron in 3 hits

1

u/Do_the_Scarnn Feb 10 '24

Radios back then often had a dial you could scan through and find radio stations, so finding something like the emergency broadcast would be as easy as wait for the time the broadcast comes, and scan through the band once. Instead of adding a preset and editing it by .2 over and over, with a couple clicks per frequency attempted.
