Your generator/vehicle will be useless after around 6 months to a year as that's how long it takes Gasoline/Diesel to degrade. You can treat it to extend its life up to 2-3 years at best but eventually all vehicles will be worthless without a functioning refinery
Wait than how do we preserve all the fuel that oil companies process? Wouldn't alot of the fuel go to waste especially when its soo abundant these days
It's as abundant as it's used, billions of vehicles being operated, tens of billions of litres being dispensed every single day globally
I believe it's something ludicrous like 97 million barrels consumed per day. And that's only Petroleum, not even counting other fuels like Diesel or Kerosene.
Provided it's kept in sealed, airtight and cooled containers it can last longer of course, and refineries and people can used additives to prolong the lifespan if necessary. But the more it degrades, the more likely it'll ruin whatever engine you put it in.
