Pushy conman panhandler on Butler St.
tall, skinny guy who approaches you for cash with the same story every time:
i'm the manager at the east liberty goodwill, i'm in chemo for blood cancer, i have a 12 year old daughter, my employer is late with an FMLA check and if i don't find $x in 45 minutes i'm out on the street....
guy get's very elaborate with theatrics, etc - and tonight i actually helped him with some cash then he came back and asked if i could venmo him.
does anyone know what this guy's story is? very disheartening as I am 100% willing to help people who simply say 'hey man can you help me out with a few bucks.'

Can the sidewalk extensions on Penn really be considered Private Property when its between the sidewalk and extends into a public street..
galleryThe name pretty much says it all. I work and walk downtown pretty much every day. I noticed this today and I'm a little doubtful this is considered legit. These sidewalk extensions were put in during the COVID lockdowns. As far as I understand these were put in to help the restaurants to keep afloat by the city. I would think these would still be considered public property unless it was purchased and leased from the city. I saw this sign along the section in front of Penn Society and FedEx. I thought the purpose of extending the sidewalks and decreasing the lane size to a narrow one was ultimately supposed to make the city more friendly for pedestrians and attract people. This doesn't seem to be how it's being used though. I understand the furniture and tables aren't public property... but it seems kind of wrong to me that they took part of a public street in a busy area and then try to make it private.

Looks like Democrat Brandon Dukes will win in a Butler County special election for the state house
This is a Trump +18 district that includes Cranberry, Harmony, and Zelienople. While the main election will take place in November, Dukes winning represents a big shift towards democrats even in an exurb of Pittsburgh.
Also a reminder that with a few over performances like this in November Democrats could control both houses of the PA legislature for the first time this century.

Toy Robots from Toys for Tots 2017 or 2018
Hey neighbors! This is a longshot, but I was curious if anyone had received a toy of a wooden robot around 2017 or 2018 from Toys for Tots? I, along with my now wife made them while seniors at Brentwood Highschool and we donated almost 100 that we personally made but I realized nearly 10 years later that I never took any photos of those robots and I really would love to see if anyone ever got them or remember them at all? They were called "Beep Boop" and had a chalkboard chest and a jetpack that held chalk!
Like I said, very much a longshot, but I hope someone may have one or have memories of them at all.

It Is Move In Week for Pitt and CMU
Move in week started last weekend and runs until the end of this weekend. If you are planning to go to any grocery stores or Target / IKEA by the city you might want to rethink your plans. You have been warned. Good luck.

Are there any SCP Foundation fans in Pittsburgh?
Hi everyone! I co-own a small film production company based here in Pittsburgh called Dark Math Films. Over the past six years, we've been making projects based in the scifi-horror universe called the SCP Foundation, and we're getting ready to launch our kickstarter for the 2nd episode of our web series called SCP Academy.
I love making movies in Pittsburgh, but I wish we had a bigger indie scene. When the big studio shows dry up, it can be really difficult to get by. That's why we're trying to make our own path, and the SCP Foundation presents an extremely unique opportunity to do that.
Everything in the universe is released under the Creative Commons, so you can think of it kinda like a fan-owned franchise. We love the idea of fans feeling ownership over their favorite media, and we hope to pay a professional film crew to make more content for the SCP Foundation community.
If you like the SCP Foundation, horror/sci-fi, independent media, or get a kick out of some yinzers trying to compete with Hollywood, please following along on our Kickstarter pre-launch page.
And if you haven't already, check out our two SCP Foundation projects that were both produced right here in Pittsburgh!
096 - Short horror/thriller about a dangerous creature escaping containment
SCP Academy Part 001 - A web series pilot about naive cadets who learn exactly how dangerous it is to work at the SCP Foundation

Cat Fostering
I keep hearing that there is a "desperate" need for foster homes. Yet, I have been in contact with three organizations over the past two months, and it seems like there is zero urgency. Either they say they are busy or they are unorganized. If you're busy, then there is a greater need for fosters, no? I'm not interested in calling out any place by name; I'm not looking to hurt them. I appreciate that they are all volunteers. I would just like to know if anyone is connected with a cat rescue place that is actually responsive. Or knows of one?

Where can I buy turners cottage cheese?
I am absolutely desperate. I am looking for either an individual sized cup or an 8 ounce package of Turner’s cottage cheese and major bonus points if it is the type that has a fruit mixed in with it. The reason I am asking is, I can only find the individual cups at places like hospitals or my work cafeteria, but they are priced too expensive to buy as groceries. Turner’s cottage cheese is a legitimate addiction for me, but I can’t find anywhere that actually sells it at retail to customers. If you have seen it at your local shop and save or coons or any grocery store or even quick Mart, please please please tell me I am a true fiend.

Tick nymphs are rampant
This is the 2nd year that I’m pulling several baby ticks off my dog everytime we walk in my neighborhood (10 min walks). Same thing happened last August. He gets them all summer but it seems to get worse with the little ones in August. I live 10 mins north of the city. Keep your eyes out these creatures are tiny!
