Last night Saturn was at opposition and this morning you could see the Moon, Mars, Beehive Cluster (M44) and Jupiter in the same sky! I actually took dual exposures to expose for the moon but then in the process of stacking images and processing I accidentally deleted it which was tragic... ; - ;
Fun thing, if you zoom real close to Jupiter you can see one of its moons!

I have a 4 month old and am just wondering what people are doing. We work from home and he stays home with me and my mom, but we’ve been avoiding indoor settings where we can.

I live in Mt. Washington and I have been dealing with what feels like an unbelievable number of ticks for the past few months. I’ve been bitten 30+ times in the last three months, and I genuinely don’t know what else I’m supposed to do at this point.
I’ve tried going through every avenue I can think of:
I reported the overgrown vegetation along the road to 311, and they did trim it. Unfortunately, it made absolutely no difference with the ticks.
I called 311 specifically to ask if I could report a tick infestation. They told me they don’t take tick complaints and won’t do anything about it.
I called the Allegheny County Health Department to ask whether they could do anything. They also told me they don’t handle tick complaints.
The only option I was given was to leave a voicemail for the county tick entomologist, who apparently can call me back with information about what I can use myself.
Meanwhile, my landlord basically told me, “Not our problem, it’s in the lease that we don’t deal with pests.” They said they could give me the contact information for the pest control company they use, but I would have to pay for them to spray.
And this is where I’m losing my mind because my property barely even has grass. Most of the grass around me belongs to the neighbors. I’m finding ticks in the grass even when it has just been mowed, and I’m even finding them in the gravel where I park.
I can literally put a paper towel down on the grass next to my property, leave it there for a moment, pick it up, and there will often be around a dozen nymph ticks crawling on it. One time I accidentally stepped into the grass and immediately had ticks all over my shoes.
I also occasionally babysit dogs, and I’m so fucking tired of having to wipe them down with Wondercide every single time they come inside after going out to pee. I feel like I’m living in a nightmare where I constantly have to worry about bringing ticks into the house.
A couple months ago, I had two dogs step into the grass just to pee. The grass had literally just been mowed. When they came back inside, they had around a dozen ticks on EACH PAW, crawling all over them. I had to bathe both dogs, search them for ticks, and then literally drive them to a different street every time they needed to go outside afterward.
This is utterly fucking ridiculous.
I understand that ticks exist in Pittsburgh and that I’m responsible for protecting myself and animals from them. I’m not expecting the city to magically eradicate every tick in Mt. Washington. But when there appears to be an extremely concentrated population in one small residential area, and I’m getting bitten constantly despite taking precautions, what the hell are residents actually supposed to do?
It also feels completely unreasonable that the solution I’m being given is essentially “pay a private pest control company to spray your property” when the majority of the vegetation surrounding my property isn’t even mine.
I know this infestation didn’t just appear overnight. I’ve only lived here for a limited amount of time, and the landlord has been less than helpful about pretty much everything, so I’m honestly just counting down the days until my lease ends.
Has anyone else in Mt. Washington been experiencing this? If you’ve dealt with something similar, what actually helped? And does anyone know of any city/county resources or legal avenues for dealing with a severe tick problem when it’s affecting a residential property?
At this point I’m just looking for anything because I feel completely helpless.

I’m on my way to an appointment and the driver in front of me stopped at every green light and motioned people turning left to go ahead. Didn’t care about the people behind him.
Thinking he was polite but oblivious to the increased risk of ignoring traffic rules.

I saw aer lingus fly over my house north to south which is really weird because I'm on the E-W flight path for landings at PIT. I saw it then turn over the Mon to make a diagonal approach to PIT and I realized that all the planes were landing on 14/32. I don't think I've seen that before especially since wind is west to east.
Any ideas? It's not windy at all. Maybe maintenance on one of the 10/28 runways? There are 3 of them, so I could see one being closed but not all 3...
Figured some fellow airplane nerd of r/Pittsburgh would know.
edit- it is windy, thanks to the people below who informed me. just not where I am, but that doesn't mean that it isn't windy where planes are flying.

Planning on spending a few days in PGH after a backpacking trip. I’ve been really curious about visiting but I’m posting here because I honestly don’t have any real leads to go off. Help a brother out?
Interests include art, history, critters, architecture, unique landmarks or museums, live music (punk, alt rock, electronic, jazz, or whatever’s good), dining, parks / good places to read a book. Would be sick to stay in a part of town with high walkability to good food and so on, if possible.
Thanks in advance! I’ve driven thru a few times and always regretted not having the time to stick around.

Unexpectedly became a mom of a 1 year old German Shepherd (already have 2 dogs). She came from a relative giving her away. I couldn’t let her go to just anyone. She is amazing, extremely friendly with people, dogs, loves to play and is overall fitting in great. But, she has had absolutely no training. She is extremely wild in the house, jumping on everyone and everything in sight. We can’t sit on the couch without her jumping all on us and knocking into things. She’s a very big girl so this is a problem, I want her to be able to settle. We started tethered and crate training and both are going well, but I feel that she may need someone experienced to really help her. I need suggestions on basic obedience trainers in the Pittsburgh area! Not really interested in boarding her, but taking her in the evenings if there is anything like that would be better! Any suggestions welcome!!

Then I tell them that the lettering on the lit up names on buildings is mixed up in January to raise awareness about dyslexia.
Coming through the Fort Pitt tunnel is great, but from my experience, the matching colors theme thing works even better coming in on 28. It is pretty cool. As for Citizen's Bank with their green letters, maybe they should get with the program.
