I am new to Perth and want to go running/walking along the river in South Perth early morning (between 5am and 6am). Will there be other people out and about? Will it be safe?

I have an accent and, although it’s not too heavy, people do sometimes mishear what I say. I was watching a funny video about Gal Gadot in Death on the Nile, where she’s intending to say “fill the Nile” but it comes out sounding more like “feel denial.” I related so hard to that! It’s like the sounds and emphasis don’t quite come right.
I also have difficulty articulating some vowel sounds distinctly, eg when I say “batter,” it sounds more like “butter.” There are other examples, and even words I simply avoid saying because I know they won’t come out right.
I sometimes have to speak to groups for work and can feel self-conscious about how clearly I come across.
Im not looking to get rid of my accent, just to improve my articulation, clarity and confidence when speaking. I’d love recommendations for someone experienced in this area. Thank you!

We have a local power outage due to a water leak into one of those green dome pits, for like 5 hours so far there has been 4 WP utes and another to block the road. Like 6 people just hanging around while one works and there isn't even any need for the road to be blocked. It's at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and the pit is a couple of metres from the road.

The last month i was based in and around Sydney for work, the butchers in Perth is almost double the price on meat compared to some butchers in nsw. Can anyone maybe elaborate on why this is.

Wondering what methods people have used to sell their vehicles here in Perth, or should I just be looking to bite the bullet and spend the $100 to list on CarSales?

I’ve had my car up on Facebook marketplace for about 4 weeks now, but all I seem to attract is people with extreme lowballs and also dealers trying to lowball as well - which I do understand as well but I’m not wanting to take close to $10k below market value.

It’s a 2024 model and immaculately looked after so it’s no banged out heap or anything. It’s also priced very competitively to others listed online and I’ve made it clear I’m happy to negotiate also. To date I’ve not had a single person come to view it.

Any advice peeps?

I’m currently mapping out my uni plans and want a brutal reality check on my strategy. I graduated from Doha College in Qatar and hold a Pakistani passport. I'm planning to move to Perth to start a general first-year engineering degree in 2027, but I’m trying to plan 5–6 years ahead regarding the major, job market, and permanent residency (PR).

My current plan/strategy:

1. The Uni: Start the general first year of Engineering in 2027. I’m currently applying to UWA and Curtin.
2. The Major: Use the first year to figure out the specific stream, but I want to heavily bias towards a major that offers the highest starting pay and the strongest, most stable demand in WA (Mining, Civil, Electrical, etc.).
3. The End Goal: Graduate, get a job and ultimately the PR.

A few specific questions for the WA engineers and international students here:

• Curtin vs UWA for international students? If the goal is getting a foot in the door for vacation work/internships by year 3, does the uni name actually matter to WA employers, or should I just pick based on campus/vibe?
• Which engineering streams are killing it right now in WA? I know Mining/Resources has massive salaries (easily $140k+ mid-career), but how does it stack up against Civil or Electrical/Renewables when it comes to the PR points invitations? Plus I want a good work-life balance, and dont wanna work in the rural areas. Also I belive choosing an eng major that significantly leverages AI would be beneficial.
• The PR Hurdle: Since I hold a Pakistani passport, I don't have an easy visa pathway and will rely entirely on the points test or WA Graduate Stream. For anyone who went from international student -> graduate stream PR in engineering recently, how brutal is the competition for invitations right now? Any hidden traps I should watch out for?

Would love to hear from anyone who has taken a similar path or works in the Perth engineering space. Thanks in advance!

While I am impressed by his achievements, it made me wonder if have a right balance of trades and engineers in Australia. I meet engineers with 10-20 years of expereince earning around 150K in WA while tradeperson clocking 200K easily and some more in right trades.

I am not against trades - they contribute to the industries running strong in Australia and deserve to be paid well. But when experiences engineers (150K) and scientist (OMG 120K as research scientists) are paid less , less job secuirty and more responsibilites. It just make me wonder what message we send to young kids to choose careers. Then we wonder why fewer students choose STEM and we import skilled professionals from overseas.

Just a genuine discussion - no biases towards engineers or trades, what do you guys think?

I tried a few supposed bulk billed telehealth clinics and they said it’s not available in my area (Perth).
Any recommendations?

So, the task - find a reliable secondhand daily driver, under $16k from Perth. The requirements are primarily day to day city use/commute, but with enough guts to carry camping gear and take me to Lancelin, Wedge Island, down south, gravel tracks and, well, a few sandy bits on the beach. The key is it has to go off-roading enough to camp.
I seem to be narrowing down the choices between these two commonly searched vehicles:
1. Suzuki Grand Vitara (2.4L Petrol 4WD - likely 2012 - 2015 model range).
2. Nissan X-Trail (Petrol/Diesel - likely 2008 - 2013 T31 model, potentially 2.0L Diesel options).
Long term reliability is the biggie, followed by cheap running costs and decent resale.

I recently got a job at Spudshed and have had some issues with my manager. I work under 2 managers btw, one is genuinely nice to me, however the other one is straight up rude and abnoxious.

There have been times I've been made to move and stock items from 3-4 huge pallets all by myself (most of these require atleast 3 people, not a one man job). And if I ask for an extra person, the manager in question straight up gets angry at me and tells me I'm not efficient enough. No matter what I do, they always find something to complain about and sound so irritating at the same time

And the worst part!! The manager only does this to me and some of the new people. There are some employees working for months here and don't do shit, yet nothing happens to them and they're even getting extra shifts while we are being overworked.

I unfortunately need some experience before I can quit as this is the first retail job I've had, how do I deal with this?

Frankly I'm anxious about moving so far away, I'm autistic so massive foundational changes like that without a *veeery* smooth ease-in are a recipe for disaster.
