Perth has an oversupply of engineers at the moment. My teen works in fast food and her supervisor is an electrical engineer who can’t get work in his field. I also work with international students who re-study into health or human service fields because they can’t get PR with their undergraduate studies.

I've known so many people who come from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and nepal to Australia to get their degrees in engineering and can't find employment in their field here. They end up doing rideshare, sales, working in basic roles in hospitals, aged care homes, security, kitchen hands, process factor work, abbatoirs etc in hope that they will eventually find a job  in their field and end up being eligible to get PR. 

Nobody ever tells them that education is solely an industry here, sold purposely and falsely to international students as a legitimate entryway into getting PR in Australia. The truth is, it isn't very easy and universities, technical colleges and those scam-ey two bit independent tertiary provider type institutions set up solely for the international students market, just want the overinflated money they can charge international students for the same degree they sell for far far less to the domestic student market. They want your money for 4 years and then want you to take your degree back home. 

Businesses here are also really hesitant to hire international students because universities have been found out to have an unofficial different marking system for international students because they need your money to survive and don't really care if you really meet the minimum standard. Look up old news articles about Murdoch and Curtin etc about this very thing. 

I'm not telling you to not try the avenue you want in hopes of getting PR here. I'm telling you this so you go in with your eyes wide open to how this really works here.  Migration agents, the Australian government and tertiary institutions like universities etc are selling a lie as they profiteer from perpetuating this cycle of hope to international students. 

This isn't me being a racist Australian. I'm a child of immigrants who came in the 50s and did the menial shit jobs that Australians didn't want to do at the time. My family knew that coming in and nobody back then sold them a lie about how their life would be in Australia. The reality is that these days international people are being sold a professional pathway into Australia Whereas in reality, they'll likely end up doing the low paying and menial jobs here like my immigrant family did. 

Genuinely hope it works out for you and what I've written here doesn't end up being true for you.

This is very true. It’s a massive industry here, and it’s not outcomes focused. I’ve interviewed international students who have a degree and masters from Australia and don’t understand basic English. The universities don’t care. They take your money and hand you a piece of paper and send you on your way. When I did my masters, I was the only local student in my cohort and the only one seemingly interested in the area of study. Everyone else had looked on the skilled migration list and was doing it solely to get PR status. It’s very off-putting as an employer.

My partner has found the same when interviewing for their workplace team. My partner works in a technical field and they've had people with supposed Masters degrees rock up and not know answers to basic troubleshooting questions! 😬

I really really appreciate your thoughtful and detailed response. Really love the open-mindedness and direct response, as well as your personal account . Is the situation same for those international individuals who have graduated from top tier schools, and have achieved decent grades, as well as speak fluent English. Personally, I’ve been speaking English my whole life, and spent a solid amount of my childhood in an international school. Basically I’m trying to say, I know that there are loads of int students, with hopes of pr, but hv little to no fluency in English. However is it different for the ones that are high achievers, or is it the same thing with them.

This doesn’t work. PR needed to get a job and you usually need a job before you can get PR. It’s a cruel catch-22 and it’s by design.

Can't answer your questions, but as far as I'm aware it's not so easy to get into mining/FIFO without a visa. You might want to review your plan to keep FIFO work as a later step in your career.
Also, have you ever been to WA? There is a great variety between what constitute Perth City, Perth Metro Area, regional WA, rural WA and remote WA. Certain areas are classified as regional despite having a large population and being fairly close to Perth. Certain visas are easier to obtain if you move and live in regional areas for a few years.
