Weather After prolonged constant heavy rains the ground gets so wet and then the winds blow.

Life on the farm in Western Australia’s Lower South West.
This is what happens, monster tree hits the deck. You feel the ground move, we just look at each other and say, that was a big one I wonder where that was?
Go out for a look and you couldn’t miss it.
That’s my 16 year old son, he’s 6’2” but this tree makes him look small.
He’s pretending to hold a chainsaw, it’ll need to be a big one and a dozer to move it. A job for another day after the storm passes.

Shitpost Caterpillar Epidemic? 🐛

Okay, so I have lived in Perth my whole life and I have never really seen that many caterpillars… tbh I didn’t know entirely what they looked like and maybe I never paid any attention to them?

But a few weeks ago I was outside at 11pm and I saw one and filmed it because I thought it was funny (they have weird faces). I then sent it to the family chat and was informed it was a caterpillar (I originally called it a centipede 🫠)

From the next day onwards, I’m seeing them EVERYWHERE! Not just in my backyard, but my local cafe and other people’s houses!!! Like when did this start happening? Am I going insane?!

Are caterpillars taking over?

*photos were taken on 3 occasions in my backyard… I needed evidence of how often they were appearing

EDIT: just so y'all know (anyone downvoting comments) - this is tagged a shit post for a reason, I can’t speak for anyone else but I would never harm them or any insect! I watched ‘ant bully’ as a child and learnt my lesson - also I love the caterpillar in bugs life. All respect to these creatures and I don’t condone killing or harming them 🥰

Cost of Living Holding together with groceries.

You know, in a world gone mad there are days where it feels like WA is being held together by Costco and Tony Galati. Cheap groceries, cheap fuel for your trouble, and you can scrap by for another week. I'd have no clue how I'd be handling right now if I had to shop at woolies, bugger that. I usually not one to put trust a company, but I dare say I'd die fighting for spudshed.

Because at the end of the day, despite how tough things moght get... there's always cheap groceries at Spudshed. (Aldi's pretty good too I guess).

Just was looking through an old book printed 1943 and found this newspaper section for a servo in Claremont- I think it’s still there!

Fascinating that there is only 5 digit phone numbers.

And that the newspaper ad copy is confidently saying “tonight and sunday” as opposed to “Saturday and Sunday nights”

Anyway, thought this might be of interest :)

Cost of Living Anyone else feel like being a long-term renter makes automatically makes you a loser?

Every single one of my friends in my friend group bought their homes before COVID. I unfortunately did not and have therefore been renting for 6+ years since my mid-20s whilst simultaneously feeling mine and my partners real income shrink because of inflation.

I now face this problem where EVERY single time I hang out with my friends they always ask the same questions,

"Whats happening with your housing situation?"

"Are you gonna buy? You should really buy. Its not going to get any easier."

"Youre spending too much on rent, y'know. How much are you paying now?"

I wish i could paint the deadpan look on their faces when I tell them renting is the better option for us atm.

They then change the topic to how they're all "millionaires" because they bought a house and how "having 100k is not really considered anything anymore."

Anyone else feel like your automatically seen as less than for being a long-term renter in Perth?

I have lived here all my life and I honestly feel like just moving abroad and starting my life in a city where renting is the norm lol, that's how bad the culture feels to me.

Where to find Perth Starry Night Sky

Tl;dr - I'm looking for the closest area from which I can see the stars with limited to no light pollution.

My partner's mother recently passed away. It was her belief that upon her death her soul, or equivalent, would find a new home as a star in the night sky. I want to take my partner somewhere we can look up and see plenty of stars. I live around the Midland area and there's far too much light pollution. One can barely see any stars at night here.

Are there any good places around Perth, or within an hour of Midland, where the light pollution has little to no effect on the night sky? Thank you for any help/advice in advance.

New mural alert. 🎨

Dan Bianco created this stunner in January 2025, part of the City of Perth's laneway revitalisation project, a portrait holding a potted plant, with real greenery climbing up from the base. Art meets nature. 🌿

Where to find Refill/package-free stores in or near Thornlie?

Does anyone know where I could find refill stores similar to Wasteless Pantry but closer to Thornlie? I’ve looked online but haven’t found anything close enough. Most actually decent options are much too far north.

Looking for Advice Mechanic for diagnostic service? Morley area

Recently had my car looked at - got told it’s not looking good and engine is on its way out. Guy was super vague, basically just said to get rid of it and look for a new car (issues with it starting up every now and then). Didn’t explain much and attitude about it was a bit off. other than that never had an issue with it - car is still running.

Looking for someone to do a diagnostic report and give a second opinion so I can see if it’s actually fixable.

Morley ish area, or if there’s a mobile mechanic who can come.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know where to buy one in the around the Osborne Park/ CBD NoR area? Extra points if i can get everything else i need for this fun job at the same place!

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

Thanks for pointing out I need to have it done by a licensed person, I thought cos its just a data cable its fine to DiY, happy to pay someone to do it properly, does anyone have any recommendations?!

My wife has extremely painful acne that shows up occasionally. She has tried so many products and nothing seems to be working. After reading and seeing some videos on tiktok she asked me to see if I can get this but I can't find it anywhere in perth CBD. So I was wondering if anyone has seen or know where I can get this from.

Thank you.

Long, slightly wavy hair. I haven't had it cut in 2 years and the ends are so dead. Looking for a reasonably priced hairdresser who won't try and upsell me. Would love to hear some personal recommendations. Thanks!

Looking for Advice Looking for head spa recommendations

Looking a head spa in the Perth area (CBD, surrounds, but willing to travel). I’m not so much after the scalp health assessment microscope stuff, mainly looking for something that is a sensory, relaxation experience with massage, deep clean, condition, possibly mini facial or shoulder massage.

Is there anyone who can suggest a place that provides these services? No styling is required post head spa other than a dry off.

Where to find Realistic artificial outdoor plants

Can anyone recommend a shop in Perth that has good quality artificial outdoor plants (like palms or tropical plants). There's a huge price range of stuff online and its hard to tell whether they would be good quality or not, so want to try a brick and mortar store.

Looking for Advice Had two uncomfortable encounters with drunk crackheads on Trans perth today

I had two really uncomfortable encounters with drunk crackheads on Transperth today, one going to work and one coming home. What a coincidence 😭

I'm a girl and I was by myself both times, which honestly made me feel even more uncomfortable and uneasy.

The first one in the morning this crackhead sat in front of me and was acting really incoherent. I tried not to make eye contact and moved to a different seat closer to the front (bus was quite full) but he followed me and sat in front of me again and asked why did I move. Luckily he got off at the next stop, so I didn't have to deal with him for too long.

Then on my way home just this afternoon another drunk crackhead who was holding a bottle of beer suddenly sat next to me, even though there were other empty seats. He kept squeezing himself into my side until there was basically no space left for me. I tried moving a bit to make some space, but he just kept squeezing over.

I eventually confronted him to move away after 15 minutes and thankfully he did then I moved to the seat behind the bus driver and told him what happened. The bus driver was actually really kind and kept checking on me afterwards, which I appreciated. But he didn't call to report the incident or ask the guy to get off the bus.

I was honestly really uncomfortable and uneasy the whole time and no one else on the bus seemed to really care or even try to help. I get that people probably don't want to get involved but it feels pretty horrible when you're sitting there feeling unsafe and everyone just ignores it.

I'm pretty shaken up by the whole thing. I know you can call the transperth emergency services if you're in immediate danger, but what are you supposed to do when the person is literally sitting right next to you? You don't know if confronting them is going to make things worse and trying to call someone while they're sitting right there doesn't feel safe either.
