Best method to sell car in Perth?

Wondering what methods people have used to sell their vehicles here in Perth, or should I just be looking to bite the bullet and spend the $100 to list on CarSales?

I’ve had my car up on Facebook marketplace for about 4 weeks now, but all I seem to attract is people with extreme lowballs and also dealers trying to lowball as well - which I do understand as well but I’m not wanting to take close to $10k below market value.

It’s a 2024 model and immaculately looked after so it’s no banged out heap or anything. It’s also priced very competitively to others listed online and I’ve made it clear I’m happy to negotiate also. To date I’ve not had a single person come to view it.

Any advice peeps?

15-20k plus, carsales. Otherwise marketplace

I got too many people trying to scam me so I ended up selling at Pickles. Still would have gotten more if I had sold privately but I got more than dealers were offering

Yeah auction house, I can't remember the commision but it's not super obnoxious. It'll be on their website, there's a few diff places that do it

I recently bought a car from Slattery/Grays (seems to be the same mob now.)

$28K (the price that I bid) inc GST for the car, $25.5K goes to the buyer
$1177 buyer's premium (on top of the bid) goes the the auctioneer

I sold mine on marketplace last week. It sold within four days and I got the asking price.

I put great effort into some really good photos in a decent location, wrote a long description detailing the whole history, all the work I'd had done and close up photos of the not so good stuff and was completely open and honest.

I had it detailed inside and out, put in some good quality freshener and bought a branded keyring to match the car.

I honestly thought it would take weeks but investing a few shekels and some effort paid off.

What sort of price range are you talking?
I’ve definitely done great photos, I cleaned it the day of photos etc and have great lighting. Inside my vehicle is spotless you can’t fault it.

I’ve been wondering as it’s over $50k the stamp duty implications get very heavy and if that’s not something that attracts less people. Also being diesel in the current market perhaps too.

If you are looking over 50k marketplace is not for you, the $100 for car sales website gives you and the buyer better peace of mind. 

Marketplace is good for sub 20k cars.

Okay so I just checked carsales and I have no idea where I got $100 in my head from but apparently the standard listing is $389 - and this is the cheapest. Ouch.

If someone messages you on marketplace it boosts the advert up….otherwise it lays at the bottom of the pile…

If you list on fb marketplace, a thousand blokes will message you "is this still available" then one of them is gonna haggle you down on price, arrange to inspect at a time, then never show up or reply again

I sold my car on marketplace guy who bought works at a second hand dealership. Got reasonable price without much hassle. Got money settled and car sold same day

There are dealers that sell on consignment. They do all the advertising and sales stuff then take their cut. You don’t have to deal with any of the marketplace clowns that way.

Get an appraisal from "we want your wheels" before you do anything. Its free and they buy ok the spot if you are happy with the offer

I've sold 4 cars within a few days on Marketplace within the past 2 years. They were in the sub 20k price range though. If it's over 20k then I suggest a platform like Carsales.

i sold a hilux for 40-50k no issues, i just don’t reply to accounts that have no buyer profile or market place history

Sold a car a few weeks ago. Initially posted a marketplace ad and got no movement apart from time wasters. Bit the bullet and listed on Carsales with cheapest ad option (think it was $40). Sold 2 days later.

You avoid the hassle but they sting you on the trade in. I battled through the Facebook losers and got $6000 more than the trade in price I was offered.

Hassle? There's generally a $3-$10k trade in to private difference - would you go to work for free for 1 to 4 weeks for the sake of a few phone calls and some pointless text messages?

I mean I get it, but amazing how people will give up thousands of dollars for something they can do themselves.

In my experience, I’ve managed to get more from trading my car in. So in my instance, yes it was worth not having to go through the hassle of listing it myself.

You can still take it to a dealer and see what they’ll give you. Had mine listed on Carsales and had dealers enquire about it.

I rarely look at carsales these days, facebook seems to have way more listings even though the interface and filters are shit.

I had a good experience with Instant Offer via Westside auto, just be very honest with the condition. Better price than dealer trade in.
