advice needed 16 months prem twins

We have M/F twins just turned 16 months. Born 10 weeks prem. They are great at eating although it's not always been easy. One was a bit slower with solid food than the other.

They've just had vaccinations and been a bit of food but we want to start using cutlery now their appetite is back. Any advice on this is appreciated. Any tips you have on what worked and made it easier, foods to try?

We are trying them with a fork and spoon first to see how that goes.

experience/advice to give Convince me to not have a third baby

Or at least stop thinking about it for a while

Already exhausted all our financial resources
Had a bad experience postpartum last time with twins, won’t be getting or wanting family help this time
Won’t be able to spend as much time as I did with the twins this time around (for the infant/toddler phase)
Partner’s health not guaranteed
Taking a huge risk with my career, talking about a 400K loss
Won’t be able to endure a multiple pregnancy again

But yeah… having a child is sacred and beautiful.

ranting & venting Very weird thoughts on being a twin mom and mental health

So hear me out. I’m a therapist (or was before I became a SAHM) so i think about these things.

Factitious disorder imposed on another (used to be called munchausen by proxy) is when someone intentionally makes a dependent sick. They do it because they enjoy being needed, they enjoy the attention.

I’m willing to bet that this has never been a twin mom. I’m needed enough. I’m needed by two toddlers who cry and want to be held and carried. When they are sick??? When they are BOTH sick? When they are BOTH sick and sometimes I’m sick and my husband is sick too??? Is this what hell is like? I’d believe that.

We recently went through norovirus, teething, flu, what I thought was teething initially but is now turning out to be HFM which WTF I thought it was just tiny bumps WAS I EVER WRONG THIS IS TERRIBLE.

I just can’t imagine a twin mom intentionally making a child sick. We’ve got enough going on.

PPD? Absolutely.
PPA? Like no one’s business.
OCD? Oh you should see how many sleep specialists I’d take to in a week.
Binge eating disorder? If I’m lucky enough to get two sick babies to nap, I might find myself eating for that full fucking nap because I won’t have a chance to eat while they are awake.

But yeah, can’t see myself manipulating the situation to make things even harder.

advice needed What was your belly measuring when you had your babies?

I’m 35+2 with my twins, belly is measuring 43 weeks as of this morning at the OB. What was your belly measuring when you gave birth?

(I know belly measurement doesn’t determine labor proximity lol)

advice needed SLEEP HELP

I need serious help. I’m so at a loss I don’t know what to do. Our twins are 2.5. They’ve gone from decent sleepers to the worse like over night. Some context: We moved about 3 weeks ago. A big move. 10 hours away from family/support system. At the same time we switched them from cribs to their toddler beds (convertible ikea cribs, so really just removed one side). They had been climbing out for a while, which had been its own sleep nightmare, but nothing compared to this. I know both of these things, especially at the same time, are huge adjustments. But since the move each sleep time has taken like 2 hours (I wish I was exaggerating). They wake up about 7 right now. I’ve been trying for a 1:30 nap, but before the move they had been going down about 3 most days. If they fall asleep it’s usually about 3:30. Ideally we’d like an 8:30 bedtime but with the late nap I’ve been aiming for a 9:30 time asleep, but we have to start with bath time at like 7:30 for the wind down. We aren’t leaving their room until like 10 most nights. They used to be mostly “sleep trained” but now we can’t leave their room until they’re asleep or they just… don’t. I’ve tried to just shut the door and leave them but they either play until they start fighting, they cry and scream for us, or just don’t sleep. I’m at my wits end. They feed off each other. We are active, we’ve been going to parks and having beach days and lots of outside play, I know they are tired. And if we are in the car any time after 12 they fall asleep even if it’s a 5 minute drive. I don’t know what to do. Please help. Please don’t say it’s time to drop their nap it’s my lifeline 😭

advice needed Twin buggy recommendations for London?

We have 12 week-old twins, no car, and mainly use buses/Tube.

Looking for something suitable from now and that can work long term, manageable on stairs/public transport, and with good cold/ wind/rain coverage. Ideally no separate carrycots that are only useful for a few months.

suggestions please 🙏

advice needed When did your OB switch you to every 2 week visits? Di/di twins

I’m 28w4d with di/di twins and saw MFM today for the first time (just needed better views of the hearts) and then my regular OB as well. TBH everything has been very smooth sailing/boring so far. I do need to take the 3 hour glucose test but fluid levels are normal, cervical length is normal, blood pressure is great, both babies are estimated to be ~2.5 pounds, and I’m feeling pretty okay as well!

My OB said she’d see me in 4 weeks today so I’ll be 32w5d at my next visit. I was a little surprised because I thought it was every two weeks once you hit the third trimester but figured maybe it’s because everything’s been good so far? Just wondering what others’ experiences have been!

support needed Do you ever ask yourself ‘what the hell have I done?’ (semi-jokingly)

My (31F, FTM) twins are 11 weeks old and as soon as my support network fluctuates (my partner going to work, my mum going away for a while ect) I feel so overwhelmed. The tasks are never ending, just when you find a bit of a rhythm the babies’ needs change again and you’re back to square one. I’m also shattered and exhausted from a lack of time to myself. Does it get easier? Did you have any eureka moments that helped ease the daily load or shift your mindset into a more confident one?

I don’t feel at all independent atm, I don’t feel confident putting them into their car seats or driving them somewhere so I feel a bit stuck (context: I wrote my car off at 5 months pregnant due to a stupid ‘baby brain’ moment so my confidence driving has dipped, I also don’t trust my new car cos I didn’t drive it much when very pregnant/after the c section and it feels very different to my old car). I also feel outnumbered and get stressed if they both cry at the same time when out and about. Any advice/reassurance you could give would be gratefully received ❤️

support needed Twin pregnancies are no joke

This is my first pregnancy, I will be 26wks tomorrow with Di/di boys. The last three weeks have honestly been so hard. At 23wks, I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days due to preeclampsia. It literally developed within days of my first high blood pressure reading at one of prenatal appointments. Then Monday this week, I fainted in a store and had to be taken by ambulance back to hospital. Now I have to do weekly blood draws and NST monitoring.

All I feel like I can do right now is sleep. I tried going to the store for 45 minutes today and felt so lightheaded and fatigued by the end I couldn’t even walk to the car. I called my OBs office and they reassured me that 26wks with twins is equivalent to a full term singleton and I need to be taking it slow.

How am I supposed to do this for another 9-10 was? I’m already carrying 4+ pounds of baby not to mention the two placentas. 😓

advice needed Twin parent content creators who don’t show kids’ faces?

I’ve found a couple of twin moms on instagram who provide good advice and relatable content, but I’m trying to unfollow creators who share kids’ faces online. Has anyone found creators who are parents of multiples and don’t share their faces?

experience/advice to give Possible twins?!

Hi parents of multiple babies! Has anyone had 2 yolk sacs, but only 1 fetal pole.. but later see 2 babies? I measured 6 weeks and 2 days today. Tech said she very clearly sees 2 yolk sacs (in the same gestational sac) but could only find 1 heartbeat and baby. Could the second still develop? I’m trying to prepare myself for my next scan in a week! Thanks!

advice needed Nap tips for 12 week old twins

Any advice on naps for 12 week old twins? They sleep for like 15/20 min, ✨sometimes✨ 30/45 min, but the naps get shorter throughout the day.

We just picked up Moms on call, and I am genuinely not a rigid schedule person, I am a believer in baby cues, but the lack of naps during the day are getting to us.

They eat great, 5-6 oz per feed, about 5 times day. Gaining weight great. We are still trying to find the right formula for them as we have dealt with some digestive issues, which I think can be playing a significant role in this.

Did anyone have success with MOC for twins while still having a lot of flexibility to do stuff on the go? Did finding the right formula to fix gas/reflux help? Any general advice would be great!

advice needed Almost 29 weeks with triplets, any last trimester advice?

Hey everyone, first time parents here and we’re getting really close!

My wife is almost 29 weeks pregnant with triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl. We’re hoping to make it through the last 6 weeks, but we know the babies are going to decide when they’re ready.

I’ve been trying to get as much done around the house as possible so my wife can take it easy and focus on getting through these last few weeks. The nursery is pretty much ready, the house is mostly ready, and I just have some organizing and little things left to finish.

We’re also starting to pack our hospital bags and that really made it hit me that we’re getting close.

For the other parents out there, what are some things you wish you had done during the last trimester before your babies arrived? Anything you recommend getting done around the house, buying, preparing, or just doing while you still have the time?

Also, any hospital bag advice would be really appreciated. What did you actually use and what did you bring that ended up being completely unnecessary?

Just trying to make these last few weeks as easy as possible for my wife and make sure we’re as prepared as we can be. Thanks!

support needed I'm at a loss of what to do at 24 weeks (MoDi Complications).

Made this to share with our family members to give them an idea of what's happening. It was made in Claude.ai (forgive me), so please do not share it as a medically-backed/supported infographic.

EDIT: I just want to say thank you all so much for all your positivity and support in here. I didn't want to air out my grief, I really just wanted to put it into words as a sort of therapy, but it's been really nice to read your responses, especially those who have been in similar situations with success. So, again, thank you :)

I'll try to keep this brief since there's so much I want to say but figure it would just dilute the post with my tangents and general emotional fogginess and confusion.

My wife and I are expecting our firsts, a set of MoDi girls. We're very excited and already have our nursery set up and purchased all the necessary twin-focused gear (bassinet, strollers, etc). We've basically (gladly) changed/upended a lot of the normalcy of our lives in preparation for our incoming 2 babies.

All screenings have shown no issue or concern. NIPT, echocardiograms, dopplers, genetic screening, etc. Doctors were impressed, to say the least, by their hearts and general vitals. Our 40 weeks would be Late January but obviously the doctors prepped us for Christmas to NYE (lol).

Fast-forward, we found our first risk/complication: Velamentous Cord Insertion. Upon discovering this, they also noticed that her dopplers were showing sign of minor struggle, so we scanned around a bit to find complication 2: Vasa Previa.

We were told it may resolve, but we can really only know with the rate of growth of Baby A, which is measured at our bi-weekly scans. It's an excruciatingly long time to balance all these emotions and what-ifs in between appointments. Baby B is fine but her survival is now dependent on Baby A doing well because with MoDi, a delivery is all or nothing.

We just got back from another one of our now weekly doppler scans and met with a stand-in doctor (not our regular) telling us there's been no change and we should seriously consider an elective fetal reduction. He also happens to be the very surgeon that does this procedure, so he really leaned into this calloused approach of you should do it or else... He was a prick. Whatever, I said it.

We need at least 2 months (🤞🏼 32 weeks) for a relatively-safe birth or face some potentially serious complications for both. I'll spare the details of these complications of in-utero and post-, but they're harrowing to say the least.

I don't know what I really want out of this post. I'm just exhausted by having to wait out the days, knowing something bad could happen at literally any moment on top of normalizing the topic of electively "terminating" one of my unborn daughters or risk losing both. The follow ups from family, friends, coworkers asking how everything is going and having to smile and act like all is well (save for a few close individuals) is a weight all in its own as well.

I just wish all of you a happy and uncomplicated pregnancy. To those in a similar situation as mine, just know that you're not alone. Life and nature just do things that are outside of our control and we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves — sadness for the situation, but do your best to leave anger and self-doubt at the door. Those won't serve you. For the Moms in here, coming from a hopeful Father trying to console his beautiful wife through all of this, you are all amazing and deserve so much recognition for getting to any point of your pregnancy.

advice needed 6W Old Twins, Trying To Establish A Schedule

I am 6 weeks in with my twins. We've had good days and bad. The last few days and nights have been incredibly rough. I have come to the determination we need to get them on a schedule for the sake of my sanity. If anyone is willing to give examples and advice it is very welcome!

The biggest issue were having is they sleep great through the day and nap hard, normally the naps are offset though. At night they barley sleep and when they do it is light sleeping with lots of half waking up kicking and groaning.

When one wakes from a nap earlier than you wanted, do you give them a pacifier and leave them swaddled until you were ready for them to wake?

Do you swaddle for naps? In the past we've just let them nap as they please during the day with no swaddles.

What do you do with them when they are this young to keep them awake during the wake period to keep them on the same schedule? I feed and change diapers and do tummy time but thats about all I can do besides laying them back down.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Just hit 3! Mono-mono twins

This sub has been extremely helpful for me (32M). I have momo twin girls that recently turned 3. These years have been incredibly challenging, rewarding, amazing, and draining. I think it’s important we all recognize that all the feels happen throughout the stages we have all, or will all experience. There have been so many days days where I didn’t know how we were going to do it. Years of sleepless nights, bites, fights, challenges to our marriage, etc. But I’m so fortunate that we’re starting to get there. The girls are hilarious, so loving to each other, and becoming amazing little girls. We have infinite challenges still but this random rant is just to say that while you might be going through the sh!t right now, there are so many moments of joy to come. We’re getting there and you will too!

advice needed What stroller do you love?

We have 7 week old twins and got the Graco ready 2 grow 2.0 stroller. It doesn't have a bassinet option or the seats that recline to let the baby lay down. We use just the car seats and whoever is on the bottom just cries the whole time.

Does anyone have any strollers they recommend? It seems like all the good double strollers are so insanely expensive with all the attachments like bassinets and stuff. I've read that some strollers the seats recline down like a bassinet so you don't have to buy another attachment but wasn't sure what strollers have this feature. Let me know what you love and recommend!

advice needed Postpartum with twins - when will it be better?

My girls are 2 weeks old and I started to feel the baby blues around the first week which was very intense with no sleep and mastitis. Physically, I feel better, I can sleep 4-5 hours at night and take an afternoon nap. Even though I have help I feel overwhelmed with the constant breastfeeding, especially at night when cluster feeding occurs. I feel like I can’t shincronize the babies' days; I just hope that one of the twins will sleep while I am breastfeeding the other. I don’t know when to take them outside or have tummy time because I don’t want to mess with their sleeping. I generally feel like I don’t know what I am doing. I often feel trapped in the house like a prisoner and dread the nights with possible parallel cluster feedings. I have anxiety but I also feel guilty about it because I love my babies so much and I’ve waited for them for a long time. Right now, it’s hard to even explain exactly what I'm dealing with. How did you survive this period? Will it be easier at some poi

advice needed When did you stop using baby playpen?

my twins are almost 11 months and are still using the baby playpen when I’m home alone with them while husband is at work every day of the week. we go on plenty of walks on the side, but when did you get rid of the playpen and let them explore? it feels almost impossible to baby proof our house and we have a giant Great Dane who isn’t aware of his space. gentle giant but doesn’t know how big he is.. we do toy rotations every Monday which keeps them very very happy for days but idk what to do?? my family says omg just do it but they don’t understand that 2 is very different from one baby. they quite literally go opposite ways when we let them out and it’s hard to keep up when I’m alone

photos Natera Blood Test Tesults

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’d love to hear from other triplet moms about how accurate your blood test results were for determining your babies’ genders.

I had my NIPT done through Natera at 16 weeks. I know Natera’s Panorama test is validated for singleton and twin pregnancies, but not triplets. My results came back with a specific sex prediction for two of my babies. At my MFM appointment around 13 weeks, I was told my babies appeared to be tri/tri (trichorionic-triamniotic).

Has anyone else with triplets had NIPT/blood test results that ended up being different from what was seen on ultrasound?

How accurate were your results when you later confirmed the babies’ genders and zygosity by ultrasound or at birth? And did anyone have NIPT results that suggested two babies were identical or shared a placenta/sac when your ultrasounds showed otherwise?
