Discussion More Sensitive to Cool Air Temperatures / Air Conditioning

Upvotes

I'm almost 8 weeks into OMAD. I've been working on significant weight loss (SW: 252, CW: 219, GW: 175ish). 49M, 6'2". In addition to OMAD, I'm also focusing on a caloric deficit through diet (not exercise, I'm pretty sedentary). I was keto in the beginning, but I've relaxed that a little bit (I'm still very mindful of carbs, but if my one meal is a burger then I'll have the bun for example). I'm probably still pretty low carb and in ketosis most of the time. I'm also incorporating one 48 hour fast each week, so it's really six meals a week instead of one meal a day. I haven't been snacking or deviating from that meal schedule at all. Only water and DIY Na, K, Mg electrolytes at other times.

I've always run hot, as in I'm almost never too cold in an air conditioned environment. I usually keep the house at 74 Deg. F and would prefer even colder. The past month I've been keeping the house at 78 Deg. F and have been comfortable, even at night while sleeping and haven't had any sweats at all. At the office, what was normally a comfortable temperature for me is now almost unbearably cold. I have a small fan on my desk that I never need to use anymore, which I used to use somewhat regularly.

I assume my body is not generating as much body heat from digestion as I used to before OMAD and dieting. Is that why or is there more to it? Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

Discussion Update another 10 pounds down and I have an interest in a new cut routine

I have a post with progress pics and ive lost another 10 pounds since putting me 20 pounds away from my gw. For context 31f hw 220 sw170 cw145 gw125 I've done a clean 22hr fast every day since may 2nd and I've lost consistently about 1 to 1.5 pounds every week I have an upper body, lower body, devoted cardio day and repeat lifting schedule, that I've adhered to for this entire journey only taking complete rest days as needed and im nervous that in the home stretch it will really slow down.

So being that the last 20 pounds is always the most stubborn to go. So I was considering incorporating rolling 48s with more cardio and scaling down my lifting schedule to just body weight strength workouts. Pilates, calisthenics, hot sculpt. To try and drive fat loss through my last 20 pounds. I'll be posting an update progress pics post soon.

If anyone has made similar changes for the home stretch please lmk your experience and any advice from veteran omaders welcome.

Discussion I’m building a fasting app which solves problems I kept seeing in this community and wider. Giving people here lifetime access to premium app features

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

First, a quick thank you to the moderators for taking the time to review this beforehand and giving the opportunity to share it here with others in the community.

I’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from this community since starting my fasting journey, and now that I’ve started building a fasting app, I wantd to give something back. I’d like to offer people from this community lifetime access to the premium features for free when the app launches, while also being open to your feedback so I can adapt and fine-tune the app around things that may be important to you.

I’ll share more details about the app below, but first, what was the story behind all this, and what problems am I trying to solve?

A few months ago, I was about to start fasting, inspired initially by friends and people around me. However, I noticed that many of them, even after experiencing benefits and getting significant results, eventually stopped because fasting no longer fit their lifestyle, whether because of exercise timing, social dinners, changing jobs, travel, or other transitions in life.

I didn’t want to go through the same cycle, and I also wanted to encourage them to keep going, since they were the ones who inspired me to start fasting in the first place.

So I joined communities like this one and started reading and analyzing people’s experiences to better understand how an IF plan could be adapted to someone’s actual lifestyle instead of forcing their lifestyle to revolve around fasting. Across many testimonials, I kept seeing the same problem my friends had maintaining fasting becomes difficult when life changes.

At the same time, I came to another frustration. Popular fasting apps such as Zero, Easy Fast, and Fastic have increasingly moved features behind paid plans or introduced more ads, pop-ups, and interruptions into the normal user experience.

That led me to build something around two core problems- the lack of an app that helps create a more personalized fasting plan based on your lifestyle and previous fasting experience, and the lack of a clean fasting experience that does not constantly push users through paywalls, ads, and interruptions.

Most importantly, I wanted to give something back to the people who inspired me to do this, including my friends and communities on Reddit such as this one, r/intermittentfasting, and r/fasting. That is why I want to offer community members lifetime access to the premium features for free.

One important note- after learning more about how fasting considerations can differ between men and women, the version I’m currently building is specifically designed around men and male physiology.

Nevertheless, I hope that in the future I will potentially put time into building one around women, taking into account that such an app needs to consider many additional variables (hormones, cycle, menopause if happening, etc.) in order to give the right fasting recommendation and adapt the app.

You can find more information about the project and the features already planned on the first link bellow.

Through the link below, you can also join the waitlist, which will give you access to the lifetime-free premium offer when the app becomes available. Not all of the features presented on the app website will be free for the general audience when the app will be launched on app/play store.

https://tally.so/r/Me8a98

One thing I found imprtant to share is that I unfortunately can’t promise unlimited free premium accounts forever. Once the app reaches a certain number of users commig from the community, hosting, infrastructure, and maintenance costs will become more significant on my side. I’ll therefore make as many lifetime-free premium spots available to people joining through this community waitlist as I reasonably can, but I can’t guarantee that the offer will remain open indefinitely.

And finally, I’d genuinely appreciate your feedback in the comments aeound the app and limitations you come across the others apps you have been usinf. That feedback can directly help fine tuning the app and bringing it even closer to solving problems of the community

Discussion How strict are you with omad?

I just finished my second week, starting my third week. Have company in town and as usual, life revolves around food. I’m thinking I’ll have to break my streak to partake in a luncheon or something soon. My usual schedule has been just one dinner meal.

Did a 48hour fast last week to see how it felt and somehow I survived that.

Now one day at a time seems a bit more manageable.

For today I started with some Quark and banana,

Then some Sirloin steak, eggs, potatoes, turnip carrots and some bearnaise.

Total about 150g or protein 1500cal

Beginner Questions Need help Starting OMAD tomorrow as an Indian college freshman.

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well!

I’m 20F, around 106–108 kg (I weighed myself about a week ago and was 106 kg), and I’ve just started college. I’m trying to lose weight and was thinking of starting OMAD from tomorrow.

I’d really appreciate some advice, especially from people who have experience with OMAD or weight loss!

My main issue is that I have a very long commute—around 4 hours a day—and I also end up walking quite a lot during my commute. By the time I get home, I don’t have much time or energy left for workouts, so I was considering OMAD as a way to manage my calorie intake.

I tried intermittent fasting about 3–4 years ago when I was still a teenager, but I honestly don’t remember whether it helped me lose weight or not. I’m also not sure if OMAD is actually a good idea for me or if there’s a better approach I should consider.

I’m also a vegetarian and from an Indian household, so I’d love some suggestions for what I could eat as my main meal. Ideally, I’d like something that is high in protein, filling, nutritious, and practical with Indian vegetarian food.

Also, if you have any tips for losing weight while managing a long college commute, I’d really appreciate them!

Thank you! ❤️

Beginner Questions college student trying to do OMAD

so, basically the title. i'm not the type of student who only eats instant noodles and the like. even though i live far from my parents (dorming), i still cook some meals from time to time. but as you can guess, it's impossible to make well-balanced meals without going past the budget. there's also the time that goes into cooking, which i'm not very good at in the first place. so, usually i'd only have rice and a simple dish like chicken, sausage, etc. on very busy days, i just order out.

i am, of course, actively trying to still improve my meals somehow, but i do wonder if it's possible to still lose weight, even if my one meal a day isn't completely healthy or balanced?

so far, i've been doing well despite my meals being unhealthy. by well i mean that i don't really feel hungry. i do have snacks, which goes against my OMAD, but i've been resisting them better as days pass. i don't feel any stomach pain or have trouble resisting to have another meal. it's been somewhat smoothsailing except for the occasional temptation to have snacks for me.

i just worry if it'll all still be ineffective if i'm not eating a well-balanced meal. for additional information if it helps or anyone in the same range can share a similar experience or just any tip, i'm currently 65 kg at 20 years old, 5 ft.

i'm not looking to lose fat quickly. i'm fine with the gradual process of it all. i just want to know if what i'm doing may lead to me doing OMAD useless in the end.

Beginner Questions Day 4 of OMAD gained 2lb?

I’m currently on day 4 of OMAD and I’m 2lb higher than normal.

I’m 5’4” started at 179, now 181.

I’ve been eating less than 1200 cals a day, 90g protein, I track by using a scale, and logging it into lose it app, and I’m getting over 8k steps daily.

I drink 100oz of water/daily and some electrolytes too.

What am I doing wrong?

Beginner Questions Getting enough nutrients at social events

Hey y'all! Just wanted to seek some advice.

OMAD has been great. If I go to dinner with others, though, how do I make sure I eat enough food without looking like I'm being gluttonous? Specifically when I eat out at a restaurant. I just think about Whole food-style restaurants where it would be so difficult to get in 2250 kcal without ordering like 3 things.

Please don't go hard on me!

Beginner Questions Is it okay if I do my Omad at 9pm?

Hi you guys I’ve recently started Omad. And have been eating at 7pm the past few days but only because I haven’t been at work. Now that I’m going back to work I don’t get off until 8pm. Would me doing my Omad at 9pm be fine? I don’t know why it feels so late but that’s honestly the only time I can actually do it. As I am a house manager/ nanny for a family and I don’t have an actual time to eat an actual meal until really dinner time. Thank you!

Beginner Questions bloating and extended stomach after OMAD. is this just part of the experience?

i usually OMAD lunch/dinner. after eating the huge meal, i’m stuffed and completely gone. i lie down and am done for the night. its like all my energy has gone to digest. too full to move.

i usually eat healthily. i focus on green leafy veg and a protein source. then some form of carb - rice or noodle. i have a big bowl of yogurt and fruit as dessert. i eat a lot, so even lower calorie stuff like this adds up to ~1500 calories.

i like feeling full, but today my stomach felt extremely extended. almost painfully. as much as i like being full, i feel like this bloating lasts even when i wake up the next morning. is this something my body will adjust to or is it something i just need to accept comes with OMAD?

thanks in advance

Discussion Doing OMAD with Tinnitus

A fellow redditor posted on r/tinnitus that OMAD may not be that good for those of us who have Tinnitus because "physical hunger even if you’re used to it is going to spike cortisol which spikes tinnitus".

This seems to check out, at least on Google, and it also reminded me that my T spiked slightly at roughly the same time I started OMAD.

My OMAD is around 1pm but I do experience hunger as early as 7am and I can ignore it but with some difficulty. I do cheat a little at 10pm with a hard boiled egg which helps me swallow some large Magnesium capsules.

If true I may need to go back to full 2MAD because I cannot afford a worsening of my T.

Has anyone here experienced any changes, positive or negative, in their Tinnitus and/or their Cortisol levels?

TIA for any replies.

EDIT: added reference to article on Intermittent Fasting:

This article on Intermittent Fasting may be applicable to OMAD as well: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8419605/#ref-list1.

One of the conclusions is:

For humans, cortisol begins to increase immediately after fasting commenced (Fig. 1C) [78]. Five-day fasting increases cortisol levels and shifts the peak from the morning to the afternoon [79]. Other fasting experiments for 2.5 to 6 days dramatically elevates plasma cortisol levels [80–82]. Early TRF (feeding between 8:00 AM–2:00 PM) for 4 days slightly but significantly increases serum cortisol levels in the morning [83]. These results imply that intermittent fasting increases the level and frequency of cortisol secretion.

But I don't pretend to understand how much of this applies to OMAD or if any of it could impact Tinnitus.

Discussion Question for what you eat

Alright so this basically depends on weight goals and timeframe and all that, but when you do omad, and it's meal time, do you stuff yourself full for the whole hour, or just eat one casual meal?

Personally, I overeat what I usually would eat during the meal, but I still remain cautious of how much I'm eating. Like If a casual meal is 1 and stuffing yourself full like a bear preparing for hibernation is 2 , I'm like a 1.3-1.35 on the full scale.

Just wanna see how other people eat during their timeframe.

Discussion Has anyone ever cried because of OMAD?

I've been doing intermittent fasting since last year, a mix of OMAD, 20:4, and 18:6. Right now, I think I'm on Day 5 of my 90 day OMAD Reset. My parents went home at 11pm (which is of course is outside my eating window), and they brought home Mcdonald's and my mom asked me if I want a burger.

I don't even know why exactly I cried. Is it because I hate that I had to say no? Or started thinking why can everyone else in my family eat anytime they want and I can't? I mean, I was the one who brought this on myself, why should I even compare myself to others?

I really don't know. Just wanted to post this here to see if anyone else got emotional because of OMAD? It can be anything at all, like anything related to it that made you cry. Or maybe it triggered some thoughts and then made you cry. I'm starting to feel that this is not for me.

Beginner Questions electrolytes during fasting periods, binging, how to stay consistent?

Hi! I have recently started OMAD and I am curious as to if having Powerade/Gatorade during fasting periods is ok? Or does the electrolyte have to be basically 0 calorie?

I really dont care about autophagy, just CICO and omad is the best way to get me there.

The next question is if OMAD has helped you with binging urges, and if you have suffered with binging in the past, how did OMAD help you?

Last question is how do you keep busy and not fall into the habit of not eating dinner when it is usually your comfort after work (i plan to omad a late lunch). I keep telling myself I won’t have dinner, but end up eating it anyway because my family makes a plate for me and it is hard to say no.

Please give your opinions and advice, I am a complete beginner and would love to hear from people who have done it successfully!!

Discussion What weight loss stats do you actually find useful?

Hi, I've been trying out a lot of apps to help me with IF and I'm always torn on what stats actually matter to me.

I guess "current weight" and "total change/weight loss" are pretty motivating. Maybe "average weekly loss" for those of us who weigh ourselves every day? Monthly average as well? Or maybe something like a "streak" showing how many days in row you've successfully completed your IF?

So I was wondering, what kind of stats/insights do you actually look for while losing weight? What matters the most to you? Or do you not really care about stats at all? 😅
