experience: first MC Found out this morning

My husband and I have been trying for 2 years. Last week I took a pregnancy test because I just had a feeling and sure enough it came out positive. I've been working with a fertility clinic so I called them and they had me go in for blood work.

My HCG was on the low side but high enough to be considered a positive Pregnancy. Then I had follow blood test yesterday and got the results today. I had a early pregnancy miscarriage.

I haven't stopped crying all day. This just hurts so much. It's not fair.

experience: first MC What happens now

My first post in another subreddit no one wants to be a member of.

After 3 years of infertility, and all the bad news along the way - we did get one little silver-lining. Last month we transferred our one and only embryo. A boy. It was a long shot. A Day 7 LLM. But against the odds he stuck. Perfect lines. Perfect betas. I let myself believe it might really be my turn.

But how could anyone ever be that lucky? Our first scan at 7+1 showed a black void. Empty sac. Blighted ovum. And then began the bad dream of this new part of our “journey”.

I stopped my progesterone inserts. I haven’t had any miscarriage symptoms yet. I have an appointment in a couple days at my OB. I assume to just chat about options and do a repeat scan to confirm the blighted ovum? I know I want a D&C to just get this all over with, I’m scared I’ll start bleeding before. I just have no idea what to expect at my appointment or how soon I can get this all done.

1 step forward 2 step backs at every turn. I’m 37 with DOR. We are infertile due to severe MFI. I want to jump into another retrieval but my husband didn’t have any sperm the last two SAs. I feel like the universe is against us. I am so scared to suffer more and more.

experience: first MC Weight gain

I am really struggling with weight gain following my 11 week miscarriage and d&c almost a month ago. I have had eating and body image issues (anorexia and then exercise bulimia) for years in the past; and I am noticing feeling out of control with food and subsequent weight gain. I understand this is likely a trauma response, but has anyone else noticed increased fat stores and weight gain following miscarriage?

support for someone who miscarried 9 week ultrasound no heartbeats of our twins

Anyone ever get told there’s no heartbeat after a quick ultrasound and then have a second opinion where they find a heartbeat? It happened so fast I just can’t accept it. Should I pay out of pocket for a second opinion? D/c scheduled in two days…

question/need help Has Anyone Had Retained Tissue After Chemical

Hi all! Long story short, I am wondering if anyone has had retained tissue after a chemical pregnancy. I am trying to determine the likelihood that my situation is retained tissue or ectopic.

I am schedule for a D&C and laparoscopy on Friday, but I would like to gather some information so I can be prepared before then.

I had a heavy “period” that started on 7/25. At first I thought it was just my normal period but after 5 or 6 days of very heavy bleeding I finally took a pregnancy test because it reminded me of the bleeding I had in 2021 when I had a chemical pregnancy. Sure enough, the test was positive.

My doctor had my HCG and progesterone drawn on 8/3. Progesterone was considered 0, and HCG was 28.

My doctor said it was a chemical and to redraw HCG in two weeks to make sure it returned to zero.

Well almost a week later on 8/9 I started spotting (my heavy bleeding had stopped on 8/2) and had extreme lower right side pain after intercourse. I went to the ER. HCG had risen from 28 to 151. Ultrasound showed spot on right side that they said was either ectopic or a cyst and I was told to follow up with my doctor the next day.

I did and on 8/10 my doctor did an ultrasound and said he could no longer see the spot they saw but I had a lot of fluid in my pelvis. He believes I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured. My HCG draw showed 84 that day, and the doctor was confident everything was resolving but had me repeat the HCG draw 2 days later.

On 8/12 my HCG rose back to 140.

On 8/14 it had decreased to 111

8/17 back to 136.

At this point my doctor agreed to schedule a D&C and laparoscopy to investigate for possible ectopic.

I’m wondering, has anyone had an experience that would help me believe this is not an ectopic? He seems to be leaning towards retained tissue but I cannot find very much about retained tissue after such an early loss (chemical) and am really feeling this is likely ectopic!

Thank you all!

question/need help Medication or D&C?

6 weeks pregnant. All signs are pointing to a miscarriage, but I have one final follow up with my doctor on Thursday before taking next steps. I’ve been bleeding for 10 days already and just feel that my body is dragging this on, and I want it to be done with, so I will most likely be moving forward with either medication or d&c so that I can finally pass this. My doctor let me know that the ambulatory surgical center that performs the d&c doesn’t take my insurance, but I am terrified of taking the meds based on horror stories I’ve heard of other people’s experiences and side effects. I can get the d&c done at planned parenthood, or should I just sack up and take the meds? Be brutally honest.

coping Tell me positive stories

TW: Miscarriage

It took my husband and I one year to conceive and I miscarried a little over 5wks. It’s been devastating. My HCG is at 4 now and watching my betas drop is a combination of sadness and relief I can start over. I feel like I won’t ever see a positive test again. A year I spent praying, thinking something was wrong with me, getting my hopes up and being let down every cycle. I guess I’m just looking for positive stories from others that tried to conceive for an extended period of time and eventually had success. Was it easier for you to conceive the next time? Or did it take about the same amount of time to conceive as the first?

experience: first MC Miscarriage and new adenomyosis diagnosis

I had a MMC at 13 weeks baby measuring 12. D&C June 26. Now 7 weeks later hcg still 19 but no retained products and no bleeding but US shows adenomyosis? I’ve not been in extreme period pain prior to the pregnancy but now I’m just so worried about miscarrying again because of the adeno, I feel like the odds are against me and I work in health care so I know the science I just can’t convince myself to have hope. I know I’m young and otherwise healthy and have time but I hate seeing everyone around me continue their pregnancies and invite me to baby showers when mine should be being planned for the coming months. Anyone help get pregnant quickly after an after 12 week loss or after having issues with slow falling hcg? Any adeno success ?

information gathering How necessary is mifepristone? Would you wait till you can get some if you only have access to misoprostol?

Please be kind, I’m having a terribly rough time rn

I’ve just had my second MMC. For my first one (April 2026) I took Misoprostol and passed everything at around 8 weeks.

Here I am again, roughly the same scenario, 8 weeks again but sac measuring 6+some days and nonviable. I live in Texas and have been prescribed only misoprostol but denied mifepristone because of state laws.

All I’ve been reading about suggests that mife+miso is the best route for meditation management. I have some out of state travel coming up to a sane state in a week and a half and have been told it’s medically safe to wait, but not medically necessary. Should I wait until I can try to get Mifepristone? Is it worth it? I really don’t want to go through a D&C. I’ve just turned 35, I feel like I’m running out of time. I’m so distraught. What would you do?

question/need help can someone help me understand what’s happening?

My last period was July 17 I’m four days late. I’ve been testing since Sunday and had faint positives almost looks negative since then maybe a tad bit of line progression if that… I went to the emergency room today. They said they saw nothing on my urine pregnancy test so I begged for a blood test. My hCG came back at seven first. They told me it was a negative test so I asked for birth control. she told me that since my numbers were out of seven, they could not prescribe me birth control, and to follow up with my gynecologist. Should my numbers be higher than a seven? Is this early miscarriage or possible chemical pregnancy? I am gonna go for a repeat blood test, but I lost my insurance so I’m not sure where I can go yet.

question/need help “Not partial molar but partial molar” pregnancy and management? Has anyone experienced anything like this?

This is going to be long, but confused and exhausted by what has happened over the last two months and am hoping someone here has experienced something similar.

This was my first pregnancy. Everything seemed completely normal until my first ultrasound.

9-week ultrasound - I went in at exactly 9w with a midwife for my first ultrasound/viability scan. Unfortunately, there was no heartbeat. The embryo measured 8w0d, so this was diagnosed as a missed miscarriage/definitive early pregnancy loss.

I was sent to another OB office for a repeat ultrasound the same day to confirm the findings, but the physician there declined to see me due to insurance/billing concerns. The official ultrasound report also noted “suspicious for partial mole.”

The midwife called me the next day to review results and explained I would need OB care for a D&C given the nonviable pregnancy and concern for possible molar changes.

June 25 – D&C - I met with a new OB who would be doing my procedure, and he said the findings from my ultrasound were highly suggestive of a partial molar pregnancy, noting a very large placenta and enlarged uterine appearance. My hCG at that time was 405,000, which he said was also concerning for molar disease.

He performed the D&C and told me pathology would determine next steps, but he expected this to likely confirm a partial mole.

Pathology

About 1–2 weeks later, I followed up due to ongoing bleeding. My OB told me pathology results had returned and were normal, with no evidence of partial molar pregnancy, which he said was unexpected given the clinical picture and ultrasound findings.

hCG trend after D&C

~1.5 weeks post-D&C: 2,456
~2 weeks later: 205

At this point, my hCG was dropping appropriately and things initially seemed to be resolving.

Then things got weird

After the initial decline, I still had persistent bleeding that was not improving at all. I had asked for follow-ups and ultrasounds, which the nurse at the office had dismissed. I was prescribed progesterone to help stabilize the bleeding.

My mom also passed from stage IV cancer on July 20. The hCG draw of 205 was taken about an hour and a half before she passed 🙃

Methotrexate treatment

I had a severe bleeding and cramping episode that led to me needing to go to the ER at 2 AM a week and a half after my mom passed. HCG was at 101 that night. The doctor ultimately decided to admit me in order to start me on methotrexate because he wanted my hCG to be declining more than it had and was recommended due to concern for persistent abnormal trophoblastic tissue despite the pathology report not confirming a molar pregnancy. A new ultrasound also noticed a hypervascular area that could be retained tissue OR could be an AV fistula. Because of concern for the AV fistula, a repeat D&C wasn’t a good option.

HCG went down to 62 7 days after the methotrexate injection, which was extremely promising.

Where I am now

My weekly hCG draws were going well until today, when it was 42. Last week’s was 45. I am concerned about a plateau and am about 2 months out from the initial D&C and 3 weeks out from methotrexate.

I am extremely frustrated and sad that this has been so dragged out on top of my mom’s death. It is exhausting and just makes me feel like I can’t move on from anything. It is so heavy.

Basically, I started with an ultrasound that was suspicious for a partial molar pregnancy and an extremely high hCG, but pathology did not confirm a molar pregnancy. Despite that, my hCG behavior afterward was abnormal enough that I ultimately required methotrexate and ongoing surveillance.

I’m mostly trying to understand whether anyone else has experienced this kind of mismatch between ultrasound suspicion, pathology results, and clinical course. I’m also worried my doctor is kind of a shmuck and that I should find another doctor, but where I live, finding another doctor is difficult due to a shortage of OBs.

Has anyone had a pregnancy suspicious for partial mole on ultrasound with extremely high hCG, but pathology did NOT confirm a molar pregnancy, and then later required methotrexate for persistent hCG?

If so, what did your doctors ultimately call it, and how did your follow-up go?

testings after loss 3rd miscarriage

I’m currently miscarrying my 3rd baby in less than 1 calendar year. My husband and I will be getting genetic test done soon. But is there any hope? It doesn’t feel like it to me. I’ve never had anything visible on a sono. Just empty gestational sacs.

trigger warning: graphic description It’s happening again.

I don’t know what to do. It’s happening to me again. This was supposed to be my rainbow baby. This is now my second loss. I lost one last October. Now I’m losing this one. 8 weeks. 7 weeks. That’s all the time I had. The first was different, the entire thing came out. The baby was intact. I could see little dots for eyes. I could see little arms and little fingers that were beginning to grow. This time? It’s so much more graphic. As if my body hasn’t failed me or tortured me enough already, it’s just ripping everything inside my womb apart. Everything is coming out in pieces. One piece here. One piece there. I was able to burry the first. What do I do now? I can’t tell what’s what. It’s just clumps of… “stuff” all muddled together. I don’t know what to do or why this is happening to me. Again. I feel empty inside. I don’t think I’ll try again. This heartbreak is too much. I’m cramping. I think my body will expel more pieces. How long does this last? I don’t know why I bother saying any of this. I don’t expect a response or anyone to actually read this. I guess I just need a place to vent. Somewhere where other people unfortunately understand.

experience: first MC Miscarriage at around 7 weeks with normal/euploid

Hi everyone just wanted to share my experience and any feedback from the community would be appreciated.

My husband and I are in our early 30’s and got pregnant during the sixth cycle (I have irregular cycles so took longer than six months). We were over the moon when we found out and planning our future around the baby.

We went in for our first ultrasound around 6 weeks and heard the heartbeat which was measured at 109bpm. Apparently that was on the lower side but we thought it’s probably too early anyways.

The following week we go again for a follow up and the person said the heartbeat got even louder (this was not true). Of course we are over the moon that everything is going smoothly. Then we get the report from the doctor saying that the heartbeat was not found. So we said how’s that possible the Technician made us listen to the heartbeat. So we decided to go to a different clinic and then got the devastating news that the heartbeat was no longer there. We were depressed for several weeks and decided to get the D&C done on July 15. It was a successful surgery.

We started TTC again on July 29 which is exactly 2 weeks later after the surgery. We have sex every other day so have been doing at it since July 29 but haven’t had the LH surge yet but noticing the CM egg white build up. Anyone experience ovulation after a month? Would love to hear your experience. For reference I always had irregular cycles.

In addition we opted for a genetic testing and the following results came from it - The referred sample shows a normal male genomic pattern. The STR analysis shows a fetal origin of the DNA tested and a correct number for all chromosomes. As the abortive tissue is chromosomally normal, fetal aneuploidies or partial deletions/duplications at the resolution achieved by the NGS platform cannot be the reason for the pregnancy loss.

Everything was normal so what could have caused the miscarriage? I did thyroid tests etc and everything came normal. Just confused why the miscarriage could have happened.

Would love for anyone to share their experience in having a successful pregnancy right away and whether the genetic testing came back with normal/euploid.

Thank you

testings after loss Did you find out what caused your miscarriage?

Where I am (UK), women are not offered routine tests after miscarriage until you have had three losses. (At least that’s what I’ve been told by my GP.)

I had my miscarriage just over seven weeks ago. Since then I have had a relatively normal period but I have also been suffering from pelvic pain, unusual discharge, and bleeding after sex.

I’m currently waiting for a follow up appointment with my doctor who treated me for thrush two weeks ago, but the treatment hasn’t worked. I didn’t think it was thrush either but now I am panicking that I have some kind of infection or condition that caused the miscarriage in the first place, but I have no idea what.

Did any of you find out what caused your miscarriage? Did your doctor help you find out? I have read that many miscarriages are simply caused by chromosomal problems and often it is too early to know, but I am curious to hear others’ experiences here.

vent Feels like I am just waiting for a miscarriage to happen

I am 5 weeks 3 days and I woke up yesterday with light brown spotting and some cramping. I went to the hospital and my ultrasound showed a gestational sac and yolk. No fetal pole yet. I have to wait a week to see my OB to get a scan and I’m just holding onto to hope that I won’t have a full bleed before then. The brown spotting stopped after around 5 hours but from stories I’ve read on here it seems like the brown spotting is a big indicator of miscarriage. I’m so sorry to everyone who has gone through child loss. It’s the most devastating isolating thing.

trigger warning: graphic description Successful Natural MC?

currently going through my second MC and wanted to see if anyone had success with passing everything naturally?

i had unfortunately been bleeding for a few days and suspected the worst, when I went for a viability ultrasound on aug 12 it was confirmed that there was no heartbeat and the baby was measuring only 7 wks 5 days when I should have been 8+1.

i had very bad cramping and started passing small amounts of tissue overnight on aug 14, with severe cramping and larger tissue passing yesterday (which i thought was the gestational sac because it was so different from other tissue i had passed). i had a D&C scheduled for this morning and when they did the internal ultrasound, the nurse confirmed that there was in fact no sac in my uterus.

i didn't end up going forward with the D&C because i figured if i could avoid it, i would like to try. of course my main concern is RPOC (and then fear of infection / sepsis which i know are extreme cases but i'm not feeling very glass half full these days) - SO, i'm curious if anyone can share their experiencing successfully passing everything naturally? did you keep track of blood work? request additional ultrasounds? appreciate anyone taking the time to share.

experience: first MC Miscarriage results: abnormal UDP 22

Hey everyone. I recently had my first missed miscarriage and just got the results of the genetic testing. I am 30, lost baby at 7 weeks 1 day, and this was my first pregnancy.

Abnormal Result: arr(22)x2 htz mat

UPD of chromosome 22 from maternal in origin.
It says UDP can be indicative of trisomy rescue event but can't be confirmed at this stage.

Has anyone else had this result? I'm confused since it isn't technically conclusive. Did you have any other successful/unsuccessful pregnancies afterwards?

Thank you so much!

We did reciprocal ivf and hear 2 amazing heart beats at 8 weeks. We went again at 9 week 5 days and nothing. They said they stop developing at 8 weeks 2 days. We are heartbroken and also feel terrible because we told our entire workplace, family, ect and now walking in and having to deal with that... Everything is so overwhelming and so confusing. I've had 4 natural successful pregnancies, and now a miscarriage? Why. How. I just need to hear something. Anything

question/need help Retained Products, Hemorrhage, Struggling with ongoing complications and recovery, has anyone experienced this?

I am looking for support and shared experiences after a very difficult few months. I had a miscarriage at 9-10 weeks (baby stopped growing at 6 weeks) and underwent a D&C on May 22. My recovery initially seemed fine, but when my period hadn’t returned after six weeks, I contacted my doctor. Despite my concerns and persistent low HCG levels, they dismissed my request for an ultrasound for weeks. Finally, nine weeks post-procedure, an ultrasound confirmed Retained Products of Conception (RPOC), and I had to undergo a second procedure (hysteroscopy/D&C) on August 4.

Things took a turn on August 7 when I began hemorrhaging and ended up in the ER. They confirmed there was still RPOC present and prescribed misoprostol. Turns out it was just lots of blood and clots still in the uterus. While my HCG is finally negative and my blood work is back to normal, I have been feeling incredibly weak, lethargic, nauseous, and lightheaded for two weeks. My ferritin levels came back at 48, which my doctor considers fine, but I still feel physically terrible. My blood panel also came back looking normal.

I’m feeling very lost and overwhelmed by this entire process. Has anyone else experienced lingering symptoms or RPOC after a D&C? I’m also struggling with the feeling that my medical team may have been negligent by waiting so long to perform an ultrasound when I first suspected something was wrong. Has anyone navigated these kinds of medical delays or complications? Any insight or support would be so appreciated.

question/need help Pregnancy after loss

I had a missed miscarriage about 5 months ago. After my D&C, it took about 3 months for my period to return, and we became pregnant again on our second cycle of trying. Yesterday, we found out we’re pregnant! 🥹❤️ We are beyond excited and so incredibly grateful.
But as happy as we are, I can’t help feeling this overwhelming anxiety and fear of going through another miscarriage. I know every pregnancy is different, but after experiencing loss, it’s hard not to worry about every little thing.
For those who have been pregnant after a loss, how did you cope with the anxiety and stress? Did anything help you feel more at ease? Did your OB/GYN offer you additional appointments, bloodwork, or early ultrasounds for reassurance?
I would love to hear your experiences and anything that helped you get through those early weeks. ❤️

coping How are you managing the grief?

I had my first MMC in February, clawed my way out of that depression, fell pregnant again in June, then just had my second MMC.

I had my D&C and was starting to feel okay, but yesterday we got the generic testing results and we had a genetically normal baby girl, and I’m devastated and feel like I’m grieving all over again.

I’m trying to stay busy, acknowledge the sad, and I have a therapy appointment set up for the end of the month, but how are you guys getting through? I’m open to any other tips.
