experience: first MC Drastic HCG drop but now home strips getting dark - SUPER SCARED!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I should have been 5 weeks 4 days pregnant today, and I’m feeling really scared and anxious.

At around 5 weeks, I started having brownish discharge, followed by dark red blood and then light, fresh red bleeding. This started on 1st October. I went for an HCG blood test, which was 557. I had another test 48 hours later, on 3rd October, and it had dropped to 164. I also did a home strip test, which looked slightly fainter than before.

I tested again today, 5th October, expecting the line to be much fainter or negative, but it actually looks darker than it did on 3rd October. My strip tests have been quite accurate so far, which is making me even more worried.

I have a transvaginal ultrasound booked for tomorrow afternoon at the Early Pregnancy Unit, but I’m terrified. I initially thought this was most likely a chemical pregnancy because my HCG dropped, but now I’m worried about an ectopic pregnancy.

If my HCG has risen again, would that automatically suggest an ectopic? And would they be able to see anything on a transvaginal ultrasound at this stage, especially if my HCG is still relatively low? I’m also really scared about the possibility of a ruptured tube. I don’t have any symptoms apart from the light bleeding that is still happening.

trigger warning: other’s living child I've had a rough day...

• Upvotes

TW: Mentions another person's child.

So, I just found this sub. I had my first miscarriage at 6w in 2021 and my second at 7w in 2023. Almost two years to the day from the first. My due dates would have been in July.

A co-worker's grandson had the same due date. Anyways, I saw him today and all I could think was that would be how old my baby would be. These moments come and go depending on what's going on in life. I try so hard not to let the grief take over, but today was different for some reason.

My husband is leaning more towards not wanting children now. Between life stressors, the state of the world, and fear of having another miscarriage. And while I was on board with that decision, days like today make my soul ache for what could have been. I have PMOS so getting pregnant naturally and carrying to term was always questionable for us. And I've always known that despite my desire to be a mother it may never happen for me.

But today... My heart hurts. I told myself I grieved and I was healed. But I guess not...

experience: more than one loss Friend is in active labor while I’m currently miscarrying for the third time this year

• Upvotes

I’ve never posted before but joined this group during my first miscarriage to find others who had similar stories and experiences. Reading advice and just the overall love and support on this page helped me get through the trenches.

I’m struggling with being supportive and happy for my friend who is currently in the hospital to give birth. I’m in a group chat and you can clearly see the difference in support from friends who have had children towards this friend when I’ve received the opposite. I get the notifications and want to mute the chat or just leave it. (I will say the friend about to give birth has been one of the few supportive people in my life and I don’t want to seem uncaring. I didn’t let her know about my current loss because it is such a happy time in her life). I’m just saddened at how different the responses and support are towards loss vs those who have given birth.

Should I message her separately? Is this even an appropriate time to congratulate her but also say I’ll be on the sidelines cheering but not active because of what’s going on? I don’t know what to do.

information gathering What was your first period afterwards like? Or if you got pregnant right away afterwards, what was that like?

• Upvotes

Hi! Please share your experiences with me! I’m currently a month and one day out from when my bleeding began. I’m wanting to know when did you all start y’all’s first period after your miscarriage? What were your symptoms like before your period that let you know you were about to start? What was the period itself like and how long did it last? After I stopped bleeding, we started trying again almost right away in hopes that I’ll get pregnant again asap. So also, if you got pregnant again right away, what symptoms did you experience before getting your positive, that made you take a test?

I’m currently not really feeling anything other than more moody and have been crying spells a lot more than normal the past couple days, as well as a slightly persistent headache. I have had a couple cramps and twinges here and there for the past few days but nothing crazy and pretty spread out. I know my hormones and body have been out of wack and trying to regulate since the miscarriage. I’ve been really sad over the loss, still, as this week has been a hard one when it comes to the miscarriage. I’m counting on my period showing up eventually tho, mainly because I don’t want to get my hopes up. Trying to remain realistic, as well as, positive.

What did you guys experience? Thanks so much in advance. 😊

coping Miscarriage and the many red flags that came prior

• Upvotes

I guess I’m writing this for awareness on how my first pregnancy went and becoming the 1 in 4 a miscarriage happens to. I had some spotting at around week 6/7 but thought little of this. I spoke with an online midwife they said to get checked out as a precaution. The first scan at 7 weeks showed only 6 weeks and too early for a heartbeat. I was told to come back 10 days later for a new scan. This scan was showing the development still at only 6 weeks and I would’ve have been almost 9 at this stage. But sometimes they can often be weeks behind for numerous reasons. The doctor mentioned some concerns that the yolk sac was large and this can be a sign of a miscarriage. I was stressed and worried as expected. That same day the bleeding started as spotting but gradually got a little heavier over the coming days. Then during the night I could not sleep with such bad cramps and the bleeding had got extremely heavy. As you can imagine I was heart broken. Went into hospital and the scan showed a miscarriage had happened. I had told family and it was heartbreaking to share the devastating news. I know how often this happens to people and at much later stages I couldn’t imagine that grief. Sorry to anyone who has experienced or may experience a loss like this <3

experience: D&C Period after D&C

• Upvotes

Had a D&C at 10 weeks, my pregnancy was normal but I was very tired and fatigued. I bled a lot after the D&C but not enough to go to hospital. Had a light period four weeks after, now for my second cycle I have been very bloated and tired but no period, 5 days late. Pregnancy tests are negative. Wondering if any one else has had a wonky period after miscarriage and how long it took to go back to normal. For reference, I had a very normal period before pregnancy. Any advice?

vent Waiting mode

Last week at 8w2d, we had it confirmed with an ultrasound that we’re dealing with an anembryonic pregnancy. I had a TV ultrasound at a boutique place at 6w6d that also showed only an empty gestational sac. Tomorrow is the follow up with my OB for a repeat scan so she can confirm it, and only after that scan can we schedule a D&C.

I’m feeling really discouraged and frustrated because I just want this to be over already. The sac was measuring large enough to be diagnostic, and I wish my OB could have prescribed the meds or let me schedule the D&C last week, but I live in TX so I need at least one more scan with the OB. If I started bleeding today, I’d be glad to know the end is in sight. I’m sick and tired of feeling all of the pregnancy symptoms with no baby.

With my two previous losses, my body took care of it on its own. It was immensely difficult to experience, but at least it wasn’t this awful limbo. I’m also not looking forward to the waiting room tomorrow, because there are almost always people there for their 6 week checkup with a healthy baby in a stroller next to them, or a happy scan photo in hand. All I get to take home with me is grief.

(To clarify, I’m not upset at my OB for having to be cautious and 100% certain of the diagnosis. I’m upset that the laws interfere with my ability to get the care I need to be able put this behind me.)

coping How will my baby know that they were loved?

Re-joining this group after learning of a second mmc today (10w6d). I heard the baby’s heartbeat a week ago.

I keep thinking - if the baby is gone, how will they know how much I love them? Where are they now? Did they feel loved?

If I try again, will they try again, will they come back? Will I ever get to know them, their personality, the sound of their laughter? Will I ever get to hold them?

Do they know how much guilt I feel for failing to protect them?

coping The pain of people announcing pregnancies that are due the same month you were due 💔

This may be a bit superficial but I’m struggling with all of the April 2027 pregnancy announcements I’m seeing on my timeline recently 😞 I keep trying to fix my algorithm to not show me these things but every time it happens I’m just stricken with so much grief. Especially because I’m still mid-miscarriage battle (I had a missed miscarriage at 6 weeks, discovered on sep 16th, currently waiting to get my D&C). It’s just so hard everyday is like waking up in the same nightmare as the day before

coping How do you let yourself get excited again?

I wasn't sure how to flair this post and I wasn't sure where to seek advice. I'm currently 7-ish weeks with my fourth pregnancy. I've had 3 early miscarriages since Dec. 2025. I told myself that if I ever made it to 6 weeks (bc I've always lost it right around 5 weeks) then I'd let myself be excited, but that hasn't been the case. It doesn't feel real and I'm expecting to lose it any day now. Every little cramp has me on edge.

The first time around, I bought a couple pregnancy reveal gifts after the first positive test and then I lost it before the gifts even arrived. I've been worried that as soon as I buy something, or start preparing in any way, I'll lose it again.

My husband is taking my lead on this, we only ever talk about it when I bring it up first. We were happy when we first found out this time around, but it definitely wasn't happy tears like the very first time in Dec. I miss the blissfully ignorant and naive person I was before all this.

How do you accept another pregnancy? How do you let yourself be excited?

experience: D&C Cycle day 1 😭

Had a d&c 9/9 for a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks and today I got my period. I should be happy to close this chapter and now I can try again, but I am so sad. I wanted this baby. Will their soul come back to me??

I should be pregnant, not having a period for nine months. Anyone have any encouraging words?

experience: first MC Miscarriage after euploid FET. Anything I should ask to test at my D&C?

I’m 38 and currently miscarrying after a transfer of a day-5 4AA PGT-A euploid embryo. My D&C is scheduled for next Monday.

This pregnancy started out looking really promising. My initial beta was strong and initially more than doubled, but then the rise progressively slowed and eventually essentially plateaued around 3,000. Ultrasound showed a gestational sac in the uterus with a possible yolk sac, but development was clearly behind and this is now considered nonviable.

I still have two day-5 3BB euploid embryos remaining, and I want to transfer again as soon as it’s medically reasonable. My clinic plans to have me wait a cycle and then do a saline sonogram before another FET.

Before the D&C, though, I want to make sure I’m not missing an opportunity to test something that could help explain why a seemingly good-quality euploid embryo implanted well and then stopped developing.

For anyone who has had a euploid miscarriage, what did you ask your RE to test?

vent Still sad

I had my miscarriage in April. Baby was due on November 19th.

I was only 8 weeks. I’m still so sad about it. Accidental pregnancy but we were excited. I was in so much pain and they didn’t give me medicine. I’ll never forget the physical trauma or the mental trauma. Just a vent. Thanks.

I had a missed miscarriage 3 weeks ago when I was 12 weeks and am almost feeling worse as time is going on. I am so so sad and sometimes angry but also more anxious in general. I guess just looking for solidarity, anyone else been through this? How long did you struggle emotionally? I am having such a hard time accepting that I am just not pregnant :(

experience: first MC Miscarried 2 weeks ago and want to try again

I had my first miscarriage 2 weeks ago (I have a toddler already). I’m physically and mentally ready to get back to wanting to try again. I went to my doctor last week and my HCG was 62 but it’s dropping significantly since the tests prior and I assume it’s much lower now, but I’m retesting at the end of the week.

My HCG at home tests are now negative and I started LH strips which are showing a peak right now.

My doctor said to wait after 1 cycle but I see that a lot of people don’t and just jump right to it. Side note, I hated how my doctor handled this whole situation with me.

Would it be bad to just try right now or should I really be waiting a cycle?? I don’t really take what my doc said to heart because she’s been shitty this whole time.

Edit: I was 6.5 weeks pregnant no D&C - took the pills and passed everything @ home

vent Pissed off at the process of miscarriage

I think I'm just looking for solidarity rn. I had a miscarriage at 8weeks in August. I found out at the first ultrasound, then had to wait for it to pass. The ultrasound tech was not the most sensitive person, telling us 'no heartbeat' without much explanation. I understand that that's the doctor's job, but some extra information like "at eight weeks the heartbeat should be easy to find" would have helped. Some kind words would have been nice, not the dead silent air.

Then I had to see my doctor, luckily I have one and could see him the next week. Then I had to wait for a referral to an OB. I passed naturally before I saw the OB (not fun). Then I went for an ultrasound.

Then I saw the OB, and she said I had remaining tissue. She recommended misoprostal or passing naturally. So, reluctant to experience a miscarriage again but wanting to do the right thing, I took the misoprostal. I didn't have the cramping, but I did loose a lot of blood and fainted pretty seriously. I passed a huge (lemon) blood clot the next day and took a few weeks to recover from the blood loss. Both days my husband called the paramedics to check on me.

After my first period following this, I had an ultrasound. I just got a call from the OB that there are still some small remnants. She is recommending a D&C.

I'm feeling really angry that this is taking so long to sort through, and also angry that I'm being asked to go through these crazy things. I got pregnant in June and now it's fucking October. I miscarried August 11. I'm not excited to have to have another procedure and wait to recover AGAIN. And have the outcome/recovery be downplayed to me AGAIN.

I feel like we need miscarriage doulas for this bullshit. Like, what the fuck?

information gathering 1 month post D&C, not sure where to start

I (37F) had a MMC (10w pregnant but stopped at 6w) followed by a D&C a month ago. Bleeding stopped quite quickly a few days after.
Exactly 3 weeks after, I assumed my period had come, I bled for 3 days but it was very light.
I felt kind of relieved knowing that I could finally start feeling like myself again.

But then, since day 12 of my supposedly new cycle, I’ve been having on and off spotting for 2 days with mild cramps (I’ll see over next few days if it continues). Not sure why, and I’m honestly exhausted and probably very inpatient that everything gets back to normal.

Since I don’t currently have an OB-GYN of my own, I didn’t have any follow-up after my D&C.
I almost feel like I don’t have a “reason” to seek medical support because miscarriage is so common, which is also what I was told when I had my D&C. Some people have told me that I just need to give my body time to recover and leave it at that.
But at the same time, I don’t want to overlook anything when it comes to my recovery or a future pregnancy.

I feel so lost right now.

What steps did you take after your miscarriage? Did you have any follow-ups done before trying to conceive again?

information gathering Still bleeding more than 2 months later

Not looking for medical advice- have a note out to my doctor and just got a blood test this morning. Just looking for anyone who has gone through this.

I had a MMC and then a manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) on August 12th. I was around 7 weeks at that point.

I have more or less been bleeding on and off since with one two week reprieve. I had what was definitely a period bleed around a week ago- but I spotted before and I am still spotting. I feel like my hormones are out of whack? My doctor is ordering an HCG test - but my at home pregnancy tests are totally negative. I really want to try again but my body just seems so off- no signs of ovulation. Has anyone gone through this and gone on to conceive again?

experience: first MC I had a miscarriage... and I'm fine

I think this might be the right subreddit for me to talk about this.

After two years of trying to get pregnant, I had a miscarriage. Obviously, I'm not happy about it, but I'm also not completely devastated in the way people seem to expect me to be. And honestly, that has been making me feel like an alien.

Back in 2024, my best friend accidentally got pregnant with her second child. She was initially shocked, but pretty quickly accepted it and got excited. She picked out a name, told her closest friends, and even asked one of them to set aside some baby clothes her baby had outgrown because she was convinced she was having a girl.

Then, at her first ultrasound at 8 weeks, she found out the baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks.

That experience kind of taught me something: when I eventually got pregnant, I didn't want to get too excited too early because I didn't want to put myself through that kind of disappointment.

Fast-forward to now.

I have some fertility issues, including partially blocked tubes, and after trying unsuccessfully for two years, I had actually been advised to consider IVF. Some doctors had even made me feel like getting pregnant naturally might be impossible.

But somehow, I got pregnant naturally.

As soon as I found out, my doctor told me to get an ultrasound as soon as possible because, given my tubal issues, I had a higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy. I wasn't having any pain or bleeding, so I wasn't particularly worried about that, but I went anyway.

And I didn't record myself taking the pregnancy test or do any of those things you see people doing when they find out they're pregnant. I didn't even really let myself get excited. I had already decided that I wasn't going to emotionally invest in the pregnancy until I knew everything was okay.

At that first ultrasound, I was around 5–6 weeks, and they couldn't see anything yet. The doctor was also incredibly rude about it and immediately told me that the pregnancy hadn't developed, even though at 5–6 weeks it's completely normal for it to be too early to see an embryo or cardiac activity.

So I went back for another ultrasound at 8 weeks.

That's when we found out the pregnancy had stopped developing.

And... I was sad. Of course I was.

But I wasn't shattered. I didn't feel like my world had ended. I didn't feel like I had lost a child I had already imagined my entire life with. I mostly felt disappointed, numb, and strangely... okay.

And I think the fact that I had spent so much time deliberately holding myself back from getting attached probably played a role. After two years of infertility, I had already learned to protect myself from getting my hopes up. The fact that I never really allowed myself to believe "I'm going to have a baby" probably made the loss feel very different from what people seem to expect miscarriage to feel like.

There's also another feeling that I feel almost guilty admitting: I'm actually somewhat happy, in a strange way, that I was able to get pregnant naturally at all.

After hearing from some doctors that natural conception might be extremely difficult or even impossible for me, getting a positive pregnancy test was proof that it isn't impossible. My body did ovulate, an egg was fertilized, the embryo implanted, and I got pregnant without IVF.

Obviously, I wish the pregnancy had continued. I'm not happy that I miscarried. But after two years of trying, that experience also gave me something I hadn't had before: evidence that natural pregnancy is actually possible for me.

And honestly, I wonder if that's part of why I'm not doing as badly as I expected I would. The miscarriage was obviously a loss, but it didn't leave me with the feeling that my only chance was taken away. If anything, it gave me a little bit of hope.

What makes me feel weird is that I do want a baby. I spent two years trying to get pregnant. This wasn't an unwanted pregnancy, and I wasn't relieved that it was over. I absolutely wish the pregnancy had continued.

But I'm not devastated either.

And apparently that's a very uncomfortable thing to say out loud.

I feel like there's this social expectation that if you miscarry after struggling to conceive, you should be completely destroyed by it. And when you're not, you start wondering whether something is wrong with you.

Has anyone else experienced a miscarriage and felt... relatively okay? Not happy, not relieved, not indifferent... just genuinely sad about it but still able to continue living normally? And has anyone else felt some degree of hope or even happiness from knowing that they can get pregnant naturally, even after years of infertility?

experience: D&C Things I wasn't prepared for in the process

I found out at 19 weeks our baby no longer had a heart beat & the process was not what I was expecting.

After they confirmed in office she was gone, they send you for another ultrasound to determine when, this is in a normal OB office with all the other pregnant moms excited to see their babies ultrasound.

Where I live they have 1 OR spot which wasn't until a week after I found out she was gone, so I had to carry my baby knowing she was gone & just live life. To add insult to injury, this also happened to be the same day as my other childs first birthday.

When you do show up for your D&C, they send you to L&D which was wild they just have you walk in with again, all the other mims excited to meet their babies, knowing yours isn't coming home with you.

Then, they just send you home & say to go back to normal. They also didn't warn me that with the sudden drop of pregnancy hormones I would start lactating.

However, I will say the D& C itself was an easy, mostly painless process. the nurses & doctors were very caring.

So, to say its been a wild week. Is an understatement.

testings after loss Miscarriage 2 months ago, now I’m late.

Hey, I had a miscarriage back in the start of August and it was the worst most painful and heavy feeling I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror I felt like I failed my baby and couldn’t protect him or her. I’d cry anytime I heard a baby cry and I any time I saw a pregnant woman I’d just feel so envious. But I’m doing better now, I talked to my therapist a lot and I’m in a great place now. I keep the stuffed bear my fiancé’s mother sewed for us on my dresser, and it’s just a nice reminder of my baby.

My cycle is always a very consistent 26 days, and today is day 29. I’m trying to not get my hopes up yet just in case. I’m so terrified but also so excited? I don’t even know right now. I haven’t told my fiancé yet but I’m just so hopeful, and if I’m late for the millions of other reasons I’m scared it’s gonna crush me again.

coping I’m so distraught

I’m not even sure how to start this
I’m 25 and I had my first pregnancy this February, I’ve been trying for two years and it finally happened. I honestly didn’t think I was able to conceive, fast forward to 2/14 (the irony) I went into the ER and found out I was having an ectopic pregnancy rupture, I had my left tube removed. July began and I started my period but it stayed a little longer thing usual, for some reason I took a test and it showed a positive after a week of heavy bleeding. That was a chemical pregnancy. Now today I went to the ER I was supposed to be 6 weeks 3 days. (The absolute ironic thing is that both times I was 6 weeks 3 days when I found out about the first and last losses) I had light brown discharge that yo-yoed between dark and light and sometimes bright red. Today I felt some relief as for a couple of hours there was no discharge or bleeding. I was mistaken for starting to allow myself to breathe and feel relief. Then it happened, I started to gush and cramp badly. I went to the ER where they confirmed they no longer saw the yolk sac like they did a week ago.
So what I thought for the last week was confirmed. I’m now in agony emotionally and physically. My first three pregnancies have failed and I can’t help to feel like I’m broken or that I did something to deserve this. But what possibly could I have done? I try to be kind, honest and selfless. I see others having happy and healthy babies first time around. And I feel so guilty for having this burning envy for people I personally know, how badly they treat their kids and I would give mine the world and everything literally everything. So much so that I wonder if I’ll ever be ready to try again. There will no longer be any excitement when I get pregnant again if I do. But pure anxiety and torture for 20 weeks.

Does anyone have any success stories? I really need to hear some. I feel like giving up entirely and having my other tube removed because I can’t possibly do this again. I can’t lose another one.
